Brunson and Tyus are both older than IQ and neither was as good a player as IQ is at their age. The real question is should he be the starter this year or do they want to frame a flyer on another stop gap. It also might be worth the money to bring in a vet for IQ to learn from during practice. He actually got a few moves from Kemba and that makes the time he was here worth it in the grand scheme of things.
Lets not forget Drose has been a vet presence for him and starmaker Johnny Byrant his coach. I can’t tell you what they think of his potential as a starter or micowave off the bench for a 2nd unit. Can Brunson play with IQ?
Not really, both would be small for their position, and the they have been forcing IQ to become a pg is they have concerns he is too short to be a sg. Him being a microwave scorer off the bench is you can be a short bench sg in the league and kept in/out depending on the matchup.

Never understood this perspective. Forcing? IQ played PG in high school and couldn't get those types of minutes there in college cause of the guys ahead of him. He may be a bit behind the curve but IQ isn't being forced, he is just growing into the spot.
Just like RJ isn't being forced into becoming a downhill player or a better passer, they are giving him the opportunity to grow his game and that's a good thing.

and IQ is really looking good doing it... I mean his post all star break #s are fantastic and his motor is great.
Randle isnt going anywhere... he's not hanging with WWW and Allan Houston at the Mavs game so they can trade him this summer.
I think its pretty clear we are mostly going to run this back. Its premature to cash in young players for an established "star" but who knows if Utah pulls the plug and what we offer. We will see.
thinking about randle now....I wonder if hed have a fit on this mavs roster? We give up Burks Randle and Kemba for dinwiddie, thjr, bertans and 2 first round picks. flip deadwood to LA for russ for an additional first then cut russ.

You know what's wild about this sentence? Mav's CAN'T give up any more picks cause the Knicks own their 2023 pick and it's protected 1-10.

Yes but what about 2025+? The idea would be something of a full reset while gaining more assets. Not an idea im completely on board with but just a thought.

Mostly I was just joking cause I found it funny.
Dallas can't trade any of their future 1st picks cause of the protection for the 2023 pick they traded to Knicks, so for any team besides the Knicks they can't include picks. For the Knicks, they can remove the protection and also add other 1sts.

If by some miracle Mitchell plays hardball and asks to be traded to the knicks, can anyone see a trade where the knicks will still have RJ, iQ, obi, grimes and cam on the roster with Mitchell? Can Randle, evan, burks and 4 1st round, 2-4 2nd rounders mostly from next years draft. Can that work? This knicks team will be young, maybe they wont be needing 4 1st rounders for a while.
Im really hoping come opening night this team will hace a feel of last year's team rather that of this year's disappointment.
Knowing Ainge's past dealings, I'd say he'd stand pat and demand IQ in any package at the bare minimum.
Ainge will deal Donovan to a celt buddy before the Knicks unless he's getting the store.

You not wrong here
McHale is long gone. Whose left to rape? Ainge was also too smart for his own good in the long run.
Fact is he is the CEO,, a new role created for him. Justin Zanik is the GM. His brother is Asst GM with Knicks. Don’t mean a thing other than a clear no bullshit link perhaps. How much Clout does Ainge have? CEO sounds good but is he the final word or advisor? Ainge had so many “almost” deals its mind numbing and to some extent they have underperformed given the expectations and “raw” materials he was given. He wheeled and dealed some really good ones but the aggregate never added up. He fumbled the Isiah Thomas thing, the Kyrie Thing, the Haywood deal (bad luck really). New ownership andd front office is interesting mix. Its a very white city with strange power base. Seems Donovan Mitchell is a very vocal social activist who will eventually clash with this demographic. dwade is minority owner and has a voice. The organization I doubt is tone deaf, but Salt Lake City is what it is. I’ve spend time out there and the fan base in the arena the night I was there showed affluent Latin Americans, some white guido bling, and a majority of pasty white narrow beady eyed fans base with short arms and bland apparel.
What do you think of these guys?
What will the knicks offseason look like if tomorrow by some miracle the knicks jump to the top 4 in the lottery with a chance to get Ivy potentially solving the PG problem. Will the knicks go all in to sign a star like Lavin? The knicks need to fortify the starting center slot as well. It will be amazing if the knicks can break their bad lottery luck tomorrow. Possibly getting Ivy might speed the timetable abit.

this should be the year we defy the odds- landing a top 4 player like an Ivey would, dare I dream it, put us in the mix to contend every year.

Im hopeful this year is the year the knicks get lucky in the lottery. If the knicks can somehow get Ivey, we have a chance of joining Memphis, T'wolves and be in conversation as promising up and coming young teams. Imagine if we get Ivey and somehow get a player like Lavin or Mitchell without giving up RJ and the rest of the youth. This can be a fun team for years to come. Please package Randle, Burks Noel and even 4 1st rounders. Plus 3 second rounders in next year's draft to make it worth it for the Jazz or Bulls.
Knicks can resign Robinson and then guarantee Taj's salary and then trade Obi Reddish Taj Kemba Noel, the Dallas pick and 2 second round picks for Lillard.
Lillard/ Rose
Fournier/ IQ
Barrett/ Burks
Randlel/ ???
Robinson/ Sims
I want to stay away from older generation superstar. I would rather the knicks go after the next generation superstars that could give them atlease more than 5 great years.I see Lillard close to where Harden is now. They might be starting their decline. Not worth it specially if your morgaging the youth.
Good news for the Knicks is no team in the East dominant.

At this juncture Miami, Boston, and Milwaukee are better than whats out west?
Cleveland is rising fast, and charlotte while they did not succeed advancing, looks ready to make the next move. DOminanece does not speak to the easts depth and that not good news.
I won’t dance on Phillys grave or nets either.

But we will dance to fact that they both have to deal with Harden and Simmons. And Kyrie. And the fact that both teams have to deal with their respective contract talks for Kyrie and Harden.
Randle and Noel for DLo and 19 works for me.
I could see the Knicks trading Fournier, Burks, Noel for and that Mavs 2023 pick for Gordon Hayward and pick #15. It gives that young team vets at all the spaces they need it, and the Knicks have another draft pick that is going to higher than what they can expect for the Mavs pick next year.
Giving Tyus the MLE, and bringing Mitch back for around 14 Mil a year. Then the Knicks could just draft some young guys and send them to the G league to develop.
Tyus/IQ/Rose
RJ/ Grimes / Rookie #1
Hayward/ Reddish / Rookie #2
Randle/ Obi /Taj
Mitch / Sims /Taj
It’s not a major makeover but it’s fixing the issue the Knicks had last year. The young guys have less guys in front of them for minutes, and the team has some depth to absorb injuries. At all five spots. Hayward might be exactly what they need too as a A1 player if he can stay healthy. Also Hayward seems like a good vet to have around.
Continue to make Grimes and Reddish 3&D wings around IQ and Obi. Bring Rose in to just score when you need it. Also see if they can rebuild Randle’s value with people who might fit him better.
Everyone can defend too.
