Did second unit really play better than first?
IQ was horrible I'm the first half. Grimes came along later in the season. Obi came along the last month. Rose was hurt. Boston is now in the finals with Smart, Brown and Tatum. They did that with patience and developing them to be some of the better players in the league. Hortford also was a key pick up. If left up to the genius Boston fans, this team would have been broken up at the All Star break.
IMHO, the idea of rinse, repeat, knee jerk is what had us where we were prior to this FO taking over.
Laughing stocks of the NBA.
Their approach of patience is refreshing and is what is needed to build a program/franchise.
Stay the path by picking up a solid FA, drafting well and by letting guys play together longer than several months.
You are not aloud to use the words patience as a knick fan. I think knick fans including me, are allergic to patience. And to be honest, we suffered long enough and tried the traditional build through the draft route. We need competent scouts and a FO who knows how to find talent.
I disagree on your take about the second unit. I say they absolutely played better than…………Kemba/ Fournier with their lack of defense. Second unit doesn’t have a high profile wanna be Kobe as a PF. Second unit always had more chemistry because they are similar in age and played together several years during the SL and worked out together.
If you want more proof about the second unit, just look at how many games the starting 5 played together. More than any other starting 5 in the nba. Part of the reason thibs did that was to keep the 2nd unit chemistry in tack. And it worked out for their development. Remember hindsight is 20/20 so I gotta give thibs the thumbs up on how well they played towards the end of the season, regarding IQ and Obi. They bring an unselfish style of team ball which is refreshing after watching the starting 5 play iso ball.
Where I agree with you is patience. I agree that we continue to repeat the same things every year. New coach new star player new free agents. Instead of building on top of what you have. It’s like a plant in your yard. Every year you trim the weeds and add fertilizer so it can grow bigger and better next year. But it’s been since 1973 when I was in diapers when the knick won. Was in HS when the Knicks was a legit playoff team. And that wasn’t because of patience. We Star phucked our way to being relevant. Unfortunately there was no youth movement or draft picks. So we was stuck in that cycle.
New FO seems solid. Young talent is better. We made improvements vs starting over every year. We just need the right tweaks to make this roster work. We are close even though our record doesn’t say it. But I believe in the growth of RJ and the other young players.

Agree with most. Think things will play out. Think the second unit stars will get their chance to creep into the starting lineup. IF they show consistent production. ie. Grimes and IQ. No doubt that we can get a better all around player than EF. Maybe a better player than RJ. And of course Randle. Can't say that other than Grimes replacing EF there is a current player that can do the same with RJ or Randle. Maybe an opportunity will present itself this summer. Do think that a bit more patience should be given to a starting line up. One which had 2 new players, one that did not make it past the first 20 games, no real PG and a number two option that struggled most of the first half. If nothing else presents itself.
Will be interesting to see what happens.
Will there be a trade for a chance at Ivey?
Trade Randle for everyone else in the league?
Sign a proven PG?
Draft a PG?
Pick up a salary dump superstar PG?
Trade everything for DM?
Trade EF?
Let MR walk?
Right now believe the plan should be to not make any stupid knee jerk decisions. Which is what I think the FO has shown a propensity to do.
Incremental improvement sometimes results in the biggest return.
We overpay like crazy for Randle and Fournier but now want ti be penny pinchers with young talented players like Mitch and RJ who have already given us winning results
Knicks gonna knick

we are locked into this roster (unless they completely blow it up).. all the moves made by Rose seem to imply extending Mitch and RJ now
Will the needle move if the FO are able to trade up to #4 by using Randle,#11 and another 1st round pick to the kings. And with #4 they get Ivey. After that Mitchell request a trade to the knicks and they give DRose, fournier, Cam and 4 1st round picks. They can resign mitch or let him walk then sign Bamba.
Mitch or Bamba
Obi
Rj
DMitchell
Ivey/IQ
Sims
2022 2nd rounder/ Taj
Grimes
IQ/Ivey
Deuce
With this line up maybe the focus is developing the kids, they will probably need fresh blood(picks/rookies) after 4 years.

would be unlikely that we could pull two moves off like that in one off season. That is also too much to give up for the 4th pick. This FO would just take BPA vs. give up those kinds of assets.

Hopefully you’re right. Losing either of those guys will set us back significantly
Only scenario it doesn’t wreck the Knicks is if Rose pulls off a miracle and does the S&T for Brunson or Mitchell

I don’t think Ivey lasts to 4
