It’s not really my preferred path per se but in the spirit of improving the team. Jalen Brunson will have more value than anyone drafted at 11? Thoughts
Not too keen on the idea. I like Brunson a lot. But adding Brunson at this point would be like giving Lizzo breast implants. Yeah, it would be an improvement. But the does the improvement justify the cost when there are other things that need to be addressed?
Eric Bledsoe is the only contract that gets us there. I think it's 17 million but only guaranteed for 3. OKC might still be under the cap and could take on some contracts. It seems risky. NOP tried that last summer to open enough space for Lowry and ended up having to give up assets for Devonte Graham in a sign and trade. Their horrible off season screwed a promising team until they were able to land CJ McCollum.
Knicks could open space and still get outbid for Jalen. I don't think it's worth it.

Ha!
Brunson isnt the dual hybrid forward type Boston used to get to the finals so no

I think Jonathan Macri from KFS said it isn't actually as difficult as people think to clear the space- Waive Taj and his non guaranteed contract, stretch Kemba, Dump Burke with a second or something and something else. Once you can theoretically get to $20mil plus cap space, then Dallas might be open to a sign and trade to avoid losing him for nothing, which helps us overpaying to dump salary.
Also the Sixers could be useful- they have Green's $10mil non guaranteed contract (remember he tore his ACL and MCL) to trade, and need to upgrade their bench and need a back up C. Maybe Noel plus Burke for that plus Niang or Korkmaz and small salary filler, then dump Niang or Korkmaz or whatever with a second
Drose and 13mm could be used (Still need more), but Dallas could go with platooning Dinwiddie and Drose in any manner best. Paying Dinwiddie and Brunson is not easy and the Market for Dinwiddie might not be great. Sure he had a nice stretch there players are not stocks, you can sell high but really how high? Maybe the cap considerations of getting Dallas back their pick is very appealing beyond that its likely a later round pick. I don't see Dallas getting in the lottery next year unless luka breaks.
Meh. Build through the draft. That’s what the warriors and celts did. That’s basically what we did and it got us to the playoffs in 2020 and we would have made the playoffs last season if we had a functional pg on the roster

I believe in building through the draft but we need a functional or at least league average PG to do that- makes life easier for the young players and coach, we can't go on without one

Not a fan. You also give up the ability to use the MLE and Biannual exceptions and are left with the room exception. I am more likely to swallow bad contract (like OKC) in exchange for our expirings than to use a lottery pick to move salary. I’m not keen enough on Brunson to think that makes sense.
Why not use #11 in the S&T with Dallas? If we’re going to get Brunson, it’s because he wants to come here. Brunson for Randle makes too much sense for both teams - we each balance out our roster, maintain value/assets- and we don’t need to use 11 this year.
And with this FO, my hope is that anyone they pick at 11 has a really solid % of becoming as good or better than Brunson (see Grimes, Robinson, IQ, etc.)
Why not use 11 to trade up and get Daniel’s. There’s a huge difference in pay between Brunson and any rookie contract. But is there a huge difference in the impact between say Brunson and dyson Daniel’s for example.
Brunson seems like a solid player to add to a playoff team. But do you build around him and his 25 mil pay? How does that impact the overall team if Brunson consumes that amount of cap? I’m just asking since I’m not the expert on cap flexibility in this nba system.

There aren't really any PGs in the lottery IMHO. Dyson can pass, but he doesn't have the ball skills to be a lead ball handler. Maybe he develops that aspect of his game, but I'm not sure I'd trade up for him with the idea of him being the PG of the future. As for Brunson at $25M, it would gum up the cap. Assume Mitch signs for $10-$15. RJ has his extension, which will be north of $20M. Fournier is their at around $20M. Obi, Reddish and IQ have their extensions coming up. The cap outlook wouldn't look to good for a mediocre squad.

Trade up so we can replace Alec Burks at pg with another Sf pretending to be a pg who isn’t as good a shooter.
The Fournier and Randle contracts are killing us
Supposedly Rose’s strategy is sign and trade Mitch and a future pick to Dallas for Brunson and sign Mo Bamba. We shall see

I don’t think they would need to. They should be able to clear the space using the Dallas pick and second rounders.
