Now that I have gotten some sleep and am now over the pain of watching another of the team I like die to a zone I want the next team to zone us again. We praised dice for how prepared he got us. Now the other coach has made an adjustment. What is he going to do about it? This is where we can see who is a really good coach and who is a pretender. If you can't adjust to another coaches adjustments you will never be a winner in the playoffs. This is the perfect opportunity to show just how good he really is. I don't want to see this team look as lost as it did last night when we see another zone defense. It might have been painful to watch last night but this is important for growth for these young players and a prove it situation for this coach. I mean this is what the summer league is for.

Deuce had a couple of aggressive takes to the rim, but he pulled a Frank a lot of time. Dribbled around the perimeter and passed it off. I imagine that the guys were a little spent after playing with such high energy and using an unrelenting brutal defense in their first two games. No way kids who aren't conditioned to play back to back games are in the kind of condition they'll need to be in the pros in order to keep up the pace in a regular schedule, hence the one or two game a week schedules in college. True the zone killed them, but they didn't show the tenacity and bounce that they had been showing either and that is what was so prevalent in the first two games.
I look at it like preseason football games when all the backup players are on the field. Winning or losing isn't the object of the game...it's finding out which of your lower tier players have promise. When the real season starts, winning is ALL that matters. Summer league is tryout camp and finding a needle in the haystack

Im not sure Grimes is ready to start. Fournier ability to shoot off the dribble and off movement. I like the improvements Grimes has made attacking closeouts and making plays, but not so much his pull up shooting.

Yes - Duece from perspective of a pure break down the D PG really isn’t cutting it and he really hasn’t shown any burst, advanced handle or creativity to get guys open. I like Duece but he lacks explosion below the waste and has only gOt near basket 2 times in 3 games.

Grimes was loose / sloppy with the ball all nigHt and I think missed 3 or 4 free throws again —- also had some bad fouls while game was still close.
Poor game by both guards imo despite Grimes decent stat line.

Read or heard some stat that Hartenstein had one of the worst foul rates in the league so wondering if we’ll be watching him on the bench in foul trouble or if we will get a legit player.

It kills me that a kid with such a beautiful jump shot struggles so much in the mid range — was really hoping that was going to be a focus for him this summer but outside of 1 mid-range step back last night he’s almost exclusive 3-pointer or all the way to the rim. If he could improve his 2 or 3 dribble pull up to > league avg it would be big step for him. I love this kid but he always seems rushed, nervous…lacking a bit of confidence - at least that is what I sense.

Yea, I heard the same. Mitch had a similar problem and I think Thibs helped him fix it. Maybe Thibs can help Hartenstein in that area with time.
That was too bad. We can say just SL but winning is winning. We started the game off great and completely went south. We took too many 3s and did not go inside enough. We let their athleticsm take over the game. They played the game at 3 levels dictated pace and forced us into bad shots. I thought for one moment we had grabbed back momentum but it was short lived. Oh well

Basketball is more than making jump shots. This is why I wanted deuce to play. You will see once the season starts and fans start complaining about Brunson defense. It’s also the fact that Brunson is now the PG of the future. Hard to be a serious team if both back court players are below average defenders.

Deuce average 1 turnover in 31 minutes last night .. Deuce would've developed lots more offensive moves if he was given 6 to 9 minutes of playing time a game alongside Kemba or Quickley in the backcourt during midseason (Thibs).
Grimes injury during the season stopped Grimes offensive development ..
Grimes being the SL Knicks first option on offense has been testing Grimes leadership in team-ball.
The Blazers Zone stopped the (tired back to back) Knicks ball-movement last night by having the Knicks shoot 41 3's out of 76 FGA throughout the game, when the Blazers only shot 24 3's.
Sims received 6 FGA last night.
It should be Grimes & Deuce #1 job to make sure Sims receive ten shots or more per game.
Jefferies & Potter & Montero were there but not there last night .. nothing from the bench.

Was thinking this when we signed him. As he will be backing up another C who has a history of getting into foul trouble. Still looking to see if they use him to take some of Randle's minutes and use Sims to backup MR.
One welcome change this SL is the TV coverage. Used to be wall to wall interviews during the game. And the announcers frequently carrying on long conversations as if the game wasnt happening right in front of them.

I thought you are supposed to develop moves in practice, a real game is when you should actually use them.

It was nice while it lasted. WTF?? The two announcers spend the entire first half of a Knicks/Magic SL game talking about Ayton and the Suns. Who is producing this caca? Why do they have the green light to contribute absolutely nothing to the broadcast?
