Knicks · Leon has to get Brunson now (page 1)

Knixkik @ 6/23/2022 11:39 PM
He used his lottery pick to clear cap space and get future picks that may never turn into anything. Brunson is his Godson and all of this only makes sense if he was told that Brunson is going to sign with the Knicks if the money is there. That’s the only logical outcome here. You don’t do this if it’s just a summer 2019 situation. You have to be promised by your guy that he’s coming if you make these moves. It’s not tampering when it’s family, right ?

Fire Leon Rose!!!

Looks like Knicks all in on Brunson. Also keep an eye on Tyus Jones. Grizzlies got Kennedy Chandler to be Ja’s backup so he’s definitely hitting the open market

You’re right about tyus Jones. It’s not worth moving 11 for but they can easily justify signing Jones and saying they have 3 additional future 1sts for a star trade. Knicks have all of their future 1sts plus 4 additional 1sts as of now. But again, I can’t believe Leon would make these moves without some assurance from his top option, assuming that’s Brunson. There’s no other justification if you’re clearing cap space.

If we don’t get one of Brunson or Jones I agree with everyone calling for Rose’s head tonight

Sexton will be an option too.

We should be calling for Leon’s head regardless. A bunch of cowards in the Knicks FO to pull this move and then say nothing to try to justify it.

Jimbo5 @ 6/24/2022 1:22 AM
I dont like this at all, putting all his eggs in one basket in free agency. Its feels like clearing up caps space when we traded KP. Brunson seems too obvious and too simple with all the emotions this FO put the fans through. As a fan Brunson alone will not inspire knicks fans.

I will feel better if this FO has a plan like using the draft capital to trade for Murray and somehow convince Lavine to sign with the knicks from the cap space they are creating. The night was a big letdown.

fishmike @ 6/24/2022 8:40 AM
phuck Brunson... we spend last year's max cap space and this year's lottery pick to eventually sign Jalen Phucking Brunson. Absolute trash.

I think the press conference will come after free agency. Saying something now is pointless because we clearly know whatever their plan is yesterday was only the first step. They want to finish before talking about it, if at all.

+1.
Why is Brunson some kind of prize that gives this org a pass?

He’s not, but they have to sign him and eventually use the extra picks as part of a trade for a star. That would be how this becomes worth it.

Because the other option was draft another mediocre wing prospect at 11 and we are already overloaded with that

And still no pg

Than it’s a colossal failure. This is his godson and close family friend. If he didn’t get some sort of assurance from Jalen himself than this is reckless.

Pretty much. Once Davis was gone I was out on most of these guys. Even if you trade the vets, a guy you don’t love at 11 isn’t playing over Barrett, reddish, grimes and Quickley. People complain about all these guys not playing like there’s a million minutes a game. What’s the point ? If there’s no franchise player available and no holes to plug where a good prospect is avail.

nycdan @ 6/24/2022 10:20 AM
Not to mention that no player we picked at 11 or 13 was ever going to play, given who our HC is. McBride and Grimes are still waiting for their uniforms. Unless lightning strikes, we might be looking at a new HC in 2023 who actually gives minutes to talented rookies so we might as well wait until then to draft one.
SergioNYK @ 6/24/2022 10:41 AM
I like Brunson and have no issues giving him $25M. He's just 25 years old and keeps getting better. I just do not see him leaving Dallas. We're gonna have to settle for our plan C or D - whoever that is.
Knixkik @ 6/24/2022 10:45 AM
So the Knicks are dedicated to the development of Barrett, IQ, Toppin, Grimes, Reddish, Sims, McBride and maybe Mitch as under-25 talent. That’s 8 guys. At least 6 of those guys will occupy 10 rotation spots next year. Knicks flipped 11 and Kembas salary into 3 first round picks. Maybe fans would have been happy if they traded down to 13 and still got a guy like Griffin plus a couple of extra picks, but griffon or anyone else in that spot still isn’t a thrilling prospect that will get prioritized for the next 2 plus years. Short of landing Ivey, I just don’t see the avenue for really making a great upgrade to the young core. It feels like adding a guy just to add a guy. It’s weird because Knicks fans want instant gratification in the draft but want long term planning during the season.
Knixkik @ 6/24/2022 10:51 AM
If they move on from Burks and Noel by attaching one of those firsts and sign Brunson, they will be left with a roster of:

Brunson, Fournier, Barrett, Randle, Mitch (resigned using cap hold)
Bench: Rose, IQ, Grimes, Reddish, Toppin, Sims, McBride, Keels, Gibson (resigned)

And have 10 first round picks in the next 8 years as a treasure chest for a future star when he demands a trade.
More picks means less of our young group would need to be included in a trade. This is their plan from what I can see.

Are they? We didn't even see guys like Toppin, McBride, Sims, etc play nearly as much as they should have this past season. It would be different if the Knicks actually showed a commitment to playing their young guys, but they haven't at all. Thibs has no interest in that either.

What I think Knicks fans want is something resembling a coherent plan. If it's about the young core...then actually make it about them.
