Knicks def going after Brunson but here is one man's opinion

Been pushing this idea for over a year. Glad it is being rumored as one of the possibilities. Believe Jones is next years Brunson.
Nah I don’t see it. They the same age but Brunsons bag is just way bigger. I’d rather just roll with IQ.
I agree in the sense that I would rather pay Tyrus Jones $10 million a year as opposed to paying Brunson $25 million a year. I think Brunson is better, but Jones, despite his small size, is a solid defender and scorer. Plus, if you sign Jones on the cheap, you still leave room for IQ and McBride to potentially develop into the number 1 PG on the team. If you sign Brunson for $25 million, you are essentially committing to him as the No. 1 pg for the next 3-4 years, when there is a decent chance McBride or IQ could prove to be better over the long-term as they continue to develop. While it was only G league, McBride averaged 26.8 pts and 8.5 assists. Even in the g league, that is impressive. Who knows what his long-term potential might be.
The reason I haven't entertained him as a possibility is because of his history with Thibs and our front office- Thibs gave him his typical young player treatment- refused to give him minutes he clearly deserved (if based on performance), and instead gave them to Rose (while on the Twolves). In the end he and the Twolves guy who is now our consultant let him walk in free agency to the Griz. Do you really think he wants to come here?

That’s very true… Why would he come to the Knicks.
I think he'll more likely go to the Twolves (exactly what they need) or Boston (also what they desperately need) for the MLE or some sort of sign and trade.

And why do you think Memphis is giving him up for the MLE instead of just signing and keeping him for just above the MLE?

I wouldn't call it a rumor. The tea leaves all point toward Brunson as being the choice. As for Tyus, I brought him up months ago as a possible target. I like him as stopgap, but I'm not sure he's good enough to take the ball out of Randle's hands. Brunson has proven, albeit in small sample sizes, that he's capable of being an offensive engine. He can consistently create his shot from all over the court and he can run the offense. Tyus is steady, makes good decisions and plays defense. But he's not a good enough creator to garner respect from RJ or Randle.

Pretty much...
If he’s willing to come here and he probably is Tyus Jones at $15 mil per with 15% salary increases for 4 years is a good deal for both sides

When you change teams you only have a max of 5% increases. 8% if you stay with same team.
Brunson is way better than Jones. Leon has us in Brunson or bust mode now.
I dig what he did in MEmphis especially when Jah was out. That was a good team.
I like him, but as a starter? Brunson does have the it factor. Not the superstar factor, but one that knows what to do with the ball. I got the Howard Eilsey vibe with Jones. Good back up. Spot starter. Elf Payton type. Teams need these guys. Not sure we do with Brunson,, IQ and Drose.

Agree. Biggest thing for me is that it's better than overpaying for Brunson. Especially if it means S&T.
However, have little faith that he will be here. Although, for us, he is better than taking Burks out of position and would allow IQ to start, I don't think the Knicks see Jones or IQ as starters.
My hope is that they sign Jones as a stop gap and start IQ.
Jones is definitely the fallback option if the Brunson thing doesn’t work out I would think.
Oh boy. We're this close to saying that signing Tyus Jones is part of a big ploy to get Zion and reunite the Duke freshman teammates. Next we'll hear that we've brought on Coach K as an assistant/consultant. :)
On the plus side: Jones's addition would make the Knicks a better team if he's healthy - he'd easily outperform Kemba's overall body of work. He's proven effective in about 20mpg usage. Did a killer job as a spot starter running the point with Ja out.
On the down side: He's never been a full time starter. He's sort like what you see out of Rose/Quickley/Burks - not really a truly legit starting quality guy. Would he be an average starter or better? Would the Knicks be satisfied with 12ppg/6apg?
(yes, we'd like to see Quickley develop into this in year 3, but so far not ready).
Jones's eFG spikes every other year and takes a step back in subsequent years.
