Knicks · Knicks Gone Wild: They should go all in on Dejounte Murray and team him up with Brunson in backcourt (page 1)

This is your episode of Knicks Gone Wild.

Hear me out. Knicks have oodles of draft picks. As many as most of the other teams that seem to have their hat in the game for Dejounte - Atlanta for one.

Brunson, Dejounte, RJ, Randle, Mitch

Part 2 (you all will hate me): Try to trade RJ for OG Anunoby ONLY because he has 2 more years on his deal and RJ's deal will be huge down the line.

Brunson, Dejounte, OG Anunoby, Randle, Mitch.

In the summer of 2024, you have Brunson $25M, Dejounte $17.7M, OG Anunoby $18.6M, Randle $25.6M, Mitch $13M, Obi $6.8M, IQ $4M, Grimes $2.3M, McBride $1.8M

Those are rough numbers.

That's total of $118M. Without Randle it would be $93M. In 2024 salary cap should be in the $130M mark range https://basketball.realgm.com/nba/info/s...

Can you give away Randle for nothing.... cause Kat would be an UFA.

Brunson, Dejounte, OG Anunoby, Kat, Mitch.

Actually I did mess that up... Dejounte would have cap hold.

But you get the idea at least.

Looking like the asking is 2 unprotected picks and 2 picks swaps plus a young player

Coming from me, this is a lot but I like where your head is at

Murray also a free agent in 2024 and will probably want the max. It will take a lot of manueveeinh.
gradyandrew @ 6/28/2022 7:07 PM
I always thought the play was to pair KAT with Randle. I think those guys are buddies.
TheGame @ 6/28/2022 7:30 PM
Interesting idea but I think the Knicks will try to get Brunson and if they strike out, they may make a move for Murray. I don’t see them going after both as I think they like Quickley and Grimes at the two spot.

I feel like trying to get Murray is more about grabbing a valuable asset that they can move for something bigger as opposed to the idea that Brunson/Murray is the long term backcourt duo.

If something comes out of this for the knick then il be so excited for the season to start. Il be fine with Mitch, Randle, RJ, Brunson and Murray to start the season. With this line up i dont think Randle will be a problem, he might be the 3rd or 4th best player in this team. I just hope if he acts out, thibs will have no problem sitting him on the bench. Just let him bounce back and increase his trade value if he "plays well" with this new group, well and good but if he continues to act out, trade him for a star.

The only downside for getting Murray is the price. 2 unprotected 1st, 2 pick swap and a young player. That young player will most likely be IQ, Obi or grimes. With brunson and Randle in the team, IQ or Obi might be part of the deal.

Obviously I hate moving Barrett in your example. But as far as Murray, I like him and would consider him. But I am concerned about the lack of shooting. Every player in that lineup does their best work in the paint. If we do sign Brunson I honestly want to see a Fournier/ Grimes SG position just for the shooting. If there’s a way to move Randle for a true stretch 4 (maybe for Hayward) or make some other sort of move to balance out the roster than sign me up.

Noel traded to clear for Brunson.

Burks, Reddish and 3 First round picks for Murray

Randle for Hayward

Brunson, Murray, Barrett, Hayward, Mitch lineup. If we are talking Knicks gone wild.

Is Murray and Brunson going to be the new backcourt? You have to start both if you bring them here. How is that going to work? Both will want to run the point. I just don’t see it. I think the Knicks are only setting up the backup plan if Brunson does not sign, and I actually think they would be better off going after Murray alone and using their cap space on someone like Bridges.

It's legal in NY and I'm still enjoying the law

Plus, even if you get those two to work, how does RJ factor in? And then Mitch? And Randle?!

oh please God.. the juice would be worth the squeeze here.. he's the best player available this year.. even if the rumors of KD looking o move on were true, I would still rather have Murray when you factor in you could have Murray for 10 years

I tend to think this is accurate, however, I will say that we barely have any players that would start on other teams. RJ and Julius... maybe Mitch... and that's it. While Brunson and Murray are somewhat superfluous, we would be adding two more players that would eb starters on other teams. I will take as many of those as possible, however we may acquire them

Fournier has also been a starter his entire career. Can’t forget him.

Durant is 33 and his body can no longer handle an 82 game season. Lot of wear and tear on him he’s been in the nba now for 15 years so it’s not just age but the number of years playing 82 game seasons plus playoffs against the big boys

And he’s even more fragile mentally than physically
