i have no doubt Ainge is going to break up the Jazz roster. Just surprised if it's happening right now

Gobert is being traded and they clearing roster spots?

They only had 11 under contract. The salary changes are also negligible. They were at 155. Brings them to 139. Doesn't really move the needle.

Getting below luxury tax is the only thing I can think of besides a full blow up.

does this mean we're now the most logical spot for D.Mitchell?

We good, we got Brunson incoming. He torched Mitchell in playoffs

Nope, Spurs could easily outbid us re:unprotected picks now after the Hawks trade, and they need a PG. They could also Land Ayton too.

Why are the nets giving up a 1st for a bench player when you’d think they’d want to be doing the opposite???

except that doesn't seem like their plan at all. Looks like they want to go after #1 pick like when they lucked into Duncan (Celts had best odds that year)

not instead of Brunson but in addition too. Brunson, Mitchell, RJ, Randle and M.Rob. Could see Bamba too if we want to load up on NY talent

Ainge was all about stockpiling draft picks in Boston. More than I can ever remember any other team. Maybe he's going that route again.
smackeddog @ 6/30/2022 4:51 PM
It’s been odd how much time D-Mitch has been spending with IQ this offfseason, but then again why would Ainge send D-Mitch to us? And how does a D-Mitch and Brunson backcourt work defensively? And isn’t that exactly the kind of dynamic Brunson is getting away from with Luca?

And as much as I would have preferred D.Mitchell to Brunson - you can't realistically play them both together for long stretches as they're too small. For me it only makes sense to have either Brunson or D.Mitchell, unless Brunson becomes your first guard off the bench.

i am convinced of it. D.Mitchell and Gobert is not enough even with an awesome (ex-)coach. And other than lucking into another draft where you get someone of similar greatness in low teens or late 20s they don't have a great path to improve.

he's going to burn that down and load up on picks and try and get Tatum 2.0 J.Brown 2.0 etc

other teams with lots of picks, e.g., OKC and Houston, are either too young to want D.Mitchell or already have talent in that spot

i would definitely keep an eye on that situation. i assumed it would be Gobert this year but who knows it could be both

(we could argue if Sixers Process was more into stockpiling or current OKC or Houston)

Mitchell seemed to do better defensively when PG this season. I don't like a Brunson/Mitchell backcourt. Its one or the other.

we have a huge stockpile of first rounders, that's why

D.Mitchell played next to Conley and they had like a number 4 or 5 defense year before last (granted Gobert was there)

My Boston friends actually think he's been dogging on D either because of bad attitude or saving energy for offense -- so there's that to considr

all that said, i think we want players who want to be here and want to win here, and that will go a long way. If D.Mitchell checks that box i would consider it. (He is not who i would choose if i had unlimited choice but we don't)
