Knicks · Knicks in on Mitchell trade (page 2)

It will take at least RJ, some youth and four or five first rounders, of which several unprotected. To me it is about how many picks, swapping RJ for Mitchell is an improvement any way you slice it.

It is good we are in the mix, if nothing else we will drive the price up for the other teams talking to Utah.

I'm not so convinced. RJ came into the league 2 years younger than Mitchell. Comparing Mitchell's rookie year with RJ's past season (both age 21), the only thing that sticks out is that Donovan was much better on 2P FG%. You have to wonder how much of that was due to Gobert setting picks and rolling vs Robinson. Given that we already have a short G in Brunson, I really don't see it as being worth any of our own picks or even in general. I have a lot of confidence that finally having a full time league average PG will do wonders for this team.

If the FO can find a way to get Mitchell for Randle, Cam and rights for Rokas then add 4-5 1st round picks i can take that. If the Jazz dont want any part of Randle i hope the can convince the jazz to take Fournier, IQ, Cam, rights to Rokas or Duece with 5-6 1st round picks. I sure hope RJ is still with the knicks if they can bring in Mitchell.

Dont expect a huge improvement with Mitchell on the team even with Randle, next season should be an evaluation of the roster, what is the fit of Jalen and Mitchell be? Can they increase Randle's trade value and move him by the trade deadline? If Randle regains his form maybe Leon can flip him for OG. Im not so crazy with the jalen-Mitchell backcourt, maybe down the line Jalen gets moved maybe its better to put Mitchell at the point, RJ at the 2, get a long athletic 3(OG type), obi and mitch.

Iwant Mitchell to go to the knick but i really want Jalen in the team, i do think he will be a very good addition to the squad.

How do you think Thibodeau feels about the opportunity to trade Randle in order to start Brunson and D. Mitchell?

If the price end s up being too high, I'd rather try a lesser package and see if OKC would bite on that for SGA, who I think is a better fit and they may be okay to move on from if they want to tank again this season and give Giddy the ball more.
TLover @ 7/13/2022 5:59 AM
Makes no sense having both Brunson & Mitchell in the same backcourt. Put Grimes or RJ at starting SG and call it a day. Knicks need to keep focusing on developing talent. Maybe actually use those upcoming draft picks and draft good players through solid scouting. Get rich quick schemes do not work!

I like SGA, i wont mind him being the Plan B. But what possible package can OKC ask for him? They would want all the young guns, obi, IQ, Grimes and the 5 1st round picks. They wont take any vets they dont want to win.

Almost seems like Ainge let the cat out of the bag after we signed Brunson.
I like Mitch but its not about EF’s wingspan or his, its about fit. Last round of playoffs DonMitch seemed to be playing thru injury? That or his defense sucks. IF so, we pass. If not his regular game I do take pause about fit, not the conquest of getting a fair deal vs. Ainge.

Does it matter if he asked out but did it quietly? HE has no real leverage to determine his landing spot. HE could be just fine in Brooklyn which last I saw still is in NYC. The Durant trade 3 way starts to make sense. Build with Ayton? I do read he is likely headed to Indy thought.

DonMitch would have been a good plan B if Brunson did not sign here. I am against trading RJ potentially at a discount and a boatload of picks. I don’t know how much Rudy as able to cover for his defense but without him it might be more apparent. We do have a good rim protector in MitchRob though.

Maybe it's just me, but i don't see Rose trading 5 picks plus youth for one player in Mitchell. Doesn't seem to jive with his MO

I hope you are all right. Mitchell is a great player - maybe last year's playoff performance was driven by overall uncertainty with the org, as we now see Ainge come in and clean house so to speak.

And I am in agreement with Briggs statement during the finals about Boston - they were big and tough defenders- they just lacked experience and maybe a lethal shooter or two.

I like our youth and depth. Give them another year with a real legit PG and then you can explore a trade at the deadline or next off season.

Agree. Jazz fans seem to want us as a trade partner because of our draft pick stash tho and they're banking on us still crapping out, even with Spida. Still, Herro is more appealing than any combination of Obi/Grimes/IQ. Randle would probably also have to go to make salaries work. I'm guessing it would take at least two unprotected as a baseline, with pick swaps or the three unprotected picks the Knicks just picked up. I just don't see a deal working to be honest.

Thibs hates small guards. As do I

Leon should put in a bid if only to make Heat pay more or try to steal the kid.
Save the dry powder for down the road.

Also, the salaries will keep going up. Randle in some form could be a very good bargain on the court or as a chip. But not now.
Granted, if one year removed Randle from All NBA talent is more valuable than I think and the centerpiece of a trade perhaps.

Hear is what bothers me: I have seen Jules have good games in Charlotte. Prepandemic that is. The fiz/miller year. Stay with me……..one game he tore them up inside. He was a beast. A force of nature. I don’t see him in Utah, but on Miami? ON a good team.
With the whole culture thing. HIm angry every time he comes to MSG and fucking us up. Some of you see him as all soft because he did not like being booed, and being a bit of a cunt last season. Some of you see the turnovers or holding the ball. I recently looked at RJ’s highlights and there was Jules passing to RJ on break or getting him set “Downhill”. Remove the apparent salty frustration and lower the bar of expectations. The man is solid. IS OBI? I don’t know. I know fans don’t like backing down on a position (myself included) so the OBI anti Thibs things won’t go away from some, but I’m not emotionally vested too much here. I want both to kick ass and raise their values.

I don’t see Jules as blocking Obi’s greatness. That will happen or not on his own. What I want to see is him kicking ass as a rebounder and bully balling inside.

TheGame @ 7/13/2022 9:17 AM
A reasonable offer would be Quickley, Fournier, Reddish, and 3 first round picks
Alpha1971 @ 7/13/2022 9:24 AM
Leon is cheap and value conscious. No way he gives away all the picks he has worked to get plus young players like Grimes, IQ, and Obi. Best to use those picks in the draft or for trades for a players that fit the squad. Forget Mitchell.

Mitchell is very undersized at the 2

We would have the smallest back court in the league

Mitchell is not the player we should go all in on. Infurating that we could of just drafted him. He was clearly better than Frank. Just like Mikal Bridges was clearly better than Knox. Stay the course, play the young players, and keep the picks. Move Fournier to open playing time for Reddish and Grimes. Mitchell will be a disaster here that would set us back 5 years

Id prefer this deal myself. Better fit for the team too.

Chandler @ 7/13/2022 9:34 AM

THibs has often expressed his fondness for great players. That said, moving for Mitchell would make a lot more sense if we were considering him playing pg for significant minutes.

As others have noted he and Jalen in the back court would be small. ANd yes we all know about his reach but size is more than reach; it's rebounding and physicality and presence on defense. (Larry Bird used to love big guards for these reasons -- Magic being the epitome)

It's a very difficult decision. IF we make an offer it has to be very disciplined because we'll need more than Donovan to get where we ultimately want to be. so we absolutely cannot have a Melo-esque trade, and we can't trade our best youth. We have to view Donovan as a piece, not the savior. SOmething like the offer The Game proposes makes some sense. It will probably be rejected but maybe not. There are only so many teams with lots of firsts and a lot of them are so far away they're not looking at DOnovan the same way we might be

BRIGGS @ 7/13/2022 9:34 AM
gradyandrew wrote:I thought the reason we gave Brunson big money was because he thoroughly outplayed Donovan Mitchell in the playoffs? Didn't the Jazz fall apart whenever Rudy missed games and keep it together when D Mitchell did? Donovan Mitchell's rookie extension complicates trades with about half the league. His price will probably drop if the Jazz struggle going into next season. At the end of the day there's only one ball. I don't see this happening now.

Agree We DO NOT want to small guards who both want the ball. We just spent 27mm on Brunson--so people want to give up half the team? Come on guys---lets deal smart.
