Knicks · Maybe shop around our Mitchell offer to another team.. (page 1)

Like OKC for Shai Gilous-Alexander, who would be a better fit with Brunson in the backcourt. Or if we we another small guard to go with Brunson then might as well go for Kyrie while we’re at it.

Sick of being a middle of the pack team. How about we actually develop our own and draft good players.

Our backcourt is set for the future. We need to focus on other things

Agreed. We have Grimes as our future starting SG who probably is an even better fit than SGA. We need a bigger small forward, like OG from Toronto or J Grant in Portland.

Yeah seriously. I like our roster currently. Don’t f with it

Nalod @ 7/16/2022 4:55 PM
SGA available? Don’t bother anyone he played 35 out of 72 games 20-21, and 56 games last year?
We forget about RJ already? OG 43 and 48 games in that time and his numbers not as good as RJ?
Grimes have some kind of super pac lobby thing that we anoint him the dude of the future after some summer league goodness?
All small guards are generic so we might as well get Kylie for likely one season?
What does OK want with even more picks?

Have a barley 22 year old kid that has improved ever month he on the court, and unless he got covid or steps on an ankle had played about every game since he walked in the door and tore it up for two months this past season and we just forgetting about him?

Donovan Mitchell is better than Grimes. Not to say we should not keep him as the consummate glue guy. I like him, but if we can move OBI, Drose, and 4 picks, not all the good ones either, then go for it. They want OBI, its gonna be one less pick. Same for Grimes. I have faith we can more of these guys in later rounds as we got them.

If Leon pulls out before consummating the act, then I’m good with that and his judgement. Fact is if he lands Donovan we’ll be uncomfortable for a while. SOme of you will hate the trade because its gonna be your thing and you gotta run with it. I’ll even say it won’t be wonderful out of the gate and you might even enjoy “being right”. But over time the tale gets written and its about the games. Not “whose right”.

Some other team might contact us and make us an offer that gets us a young wing for the future for less soon. Portland better not take our offers for granted.

OG would be fine. Knicks could have had Grant for cheap. They legit own the first round pick from Milwaukee that was traded for grant. He’s more of a 4 anyways. Mitchell is a game changer though. We can talk about other player but they aren’t on his level of difference maker.

Nalod @ 7/16/2022 10:59 PM
Seriously, RJ says hello..

Seems like this is plan B for Rose.
smackeddog @ 9/2/2022 12:34 PM
The irony is both Mitch and SGA were draftable by us and we blew it. It is possible to get stars cheaply via the draft, draft wisely and you save yourself having to give up all your future draft capital and young players a few years later. Draft foolishly and you end up with Frankie Smokes and Kevin Knox!

Either stay the course or clear out the older vets for me.

IQ/Grimes/Barrett/Toppin/Robinson is my prediction to have the best Net Plus Minus Rating on the Knicks this year.

Fixed. Btw those two options are not mutually exclusive. Our course is a rebuild. Not a tanking one like Philly, rather trying to put together the best team possible in the process. A tall order if you ask me. However, we did get rid of a bunch of vets this off-season. Letting go of Burks was key. He is actually a good player and absolutely required playing time which is counterintuitive if you want to develop the youth. Great job on our front office recognizing that. Same for Noel and even Taj, as much as I loved him. Kemba is a different story but I'll throw him in there as well. Those guys can really help a contender with limited minutes off the bench. We have a very deep team and a coach that really trusts his vets. Really we should see more player development this year. Makes me a happy camper

gradyandrew @ 9/2/2022 10:23 PM
I don't think the Knicks should make any more moves before 20 or so games into the season. If the team is playing well, there's no need to change.

yes, we did get younger. And yes, we have a log jam a bit on paper and yes, its a process. A star like DM comes on you make a play. set a price, don't be stupid and if it comes together, great. I not, back to plan "A".

WE did not use our 11th pick but we got trade fodder and dumped Kemba and fixed a big hole with Brunson. He could/should help develop the yoot. Not with super mentorship but on the floor being a second tier very very good player creating opportunities to make each a bit better. While a free agent he did come at a cost as we needed to open space up. Maybe Duran grows to be a stud and we missed it, but what does Brunson bring to our team is not that simple to measure in pure stats. Chemistry matters.

Does Everyone realize we potentially can get the best young player coming into the NBA in decades.

The Knicks aren’t tanking as long as Dolan can keep raising ticket prices everytime they make the playoffs. If you always remember that when talking about the Knicks, the things they do actually make sense.

If a trade happens it will likely be after the first 20 games. Bringing on Brunson means the whole team needs to be analyzed with a PG. Then they can use a trade to make an adjustment.

That shipped sailed two months ago. San Antonio and Utah threw their rosters away to jump in the pool with OKC ORL and Houston. Even if the Knicks wanted to tank, they would be attaching future picks to deplete the roster.

This doesn't even take into account the work that went into trading Knox, Burks, and Noel into Cam Brunson and Hart. Anyone arguing for a tank is delusional. The Knicks don't have a roster for it.

While you make sense, I think you overstate the concept of tanking and understate the depth of 2023. I would say we are in a position of maximizing value except we have a win-now coach.

Yea, a complete tank would have meant not signing Brunson. For me, when I suggest a new lineup, I am advocating for a developmental year. I am increasing volatility (the variance in # of wins outcomes). I actually believe a lineup with IQ/Toppin over Fournier/Randle has the potential for a higher number of wins, but is relatively untested against starting players so has a higher loss potential as well, where the existing SL is a relatively know quantity where replacing Burks for Brunson results in a little more offense and a little less defense while adding a ball dominant player to 3 other ball dominant players. I think the existing lineup is 41 wins +/- 3 wins and the non-Fournier lineup is 39 wins +/- 8

Neither is likely to get us #1 pick, but all I am looking for are the Thompson twins. And I would hope to get a top 10 and use the other picks to get Ausar and Amen. Two athletic 6’7 6’11 wingspan athletic wings? That’s a foundation with Brunson.

Regarding our Mitchell offer, one trade that would make sense for both teams would be Anthony Davis. We would have to wait until Mitchell Robinson is available to be traded on January 15, but a deal with Robinson, Reddish, and Fournier plus draft picks could work. That LA team isn't going anywhere and Davis is the only shovel they have to get out of the hole. The Knicks could fill out their rotation and give them a future that's not as bleak. Davis would give the Knicks the MVP caliber player they are lacking with enough depth around him (Hart and Sims) to keep the team rolling when he misses time. LBJ can still compete for championships, just?not with the Lakers as presently constructed.

Remains to be seen. Westbrick could be moved for Utahs tired role players but thats just what Lakers need. Leborn is still Lebron and Im not quite sure they ready to hang It up.

The oft injured AD is not quite what I had in mind here.

I think the worst thing to do is to make a reactionary move to making a move just because we didn’t get Mitchell. As this point it’s best just to keep our assets until the right fit comes along whether that’s a trade or just drafting
