i came out of basketball retirement in my 50's to play a uk pickup game. about a week later i caught my breath.

I’ll be 50 next year so I know my time is coming. But right now I just can’t seem to self motivate myself into running on a treadmill or doing drills on my own. Basketball is the only thing (besides sx) that gets my cardio up. 🤣

But that’s a good one man. A week to catch your breath. I definitely understand that.

No man i could never do a treadmill or any of that crap. here’s the routine - get upstate to the mountains, prep with a few shots of patron or casa azul, slap in the airpods and put on a playlist of heavy funk - i go for bobby byrd/jr walker/parliament/kool & the gang/isleys/jimmy bo horne/gap band, that kind of thing. Get on a trail with a decent incline, get the juices flowing and let it rip for a couple of hours, 16 or 17,000 steps. Then pound some glasses of ice water and hit the hot tub with a bottle of prosseco and chill out to miles, ahmad jamal, cannonball, coltrane, ramsey lewis, yusef lateef, that kind of thing. that’s a senior workout

Yeah man, sometimes, and I can dig it hit my pen few time and put miles on the turntable then kick back.

I think I’m starting to like you guys more outside of knick talks. Tennis is a great alternative. Wow going back to when music was good and better than this trap music u hear on the radio. Pen? Ok I see you. I got a pen or two. Love the trail idea, especially with a few shots. Nice 👍

The mountain house? Awesome!! LOL……….
My house backs up to a park and series of trails in my city. Lots of good walking. I mix it up:

Tennis 3x a week. Walk 3 miles on “rest days”. I have a spin bike, eliptical, Row machine, speed bag, bands and dumbell set in basement with 50 inch old school plasma and old but very powerful home theatre system. I hate the machines but they fill in other stuff. Watch a program to keep occupied. Do my trail walking with a pod cast or music. I have a Belgian Malinois dog who at 12 is in great shape and still loves to play ball every day. My wife and I get him an hour of exercise every day.

I do a low glycemic diet and that really curbs my alcohol consumption as well as carbs, no sugar, and selected fruit. Sugar is iike everything! Took off 30lbs two years now and aim to keep it that way. The pen helps chill where a drink used to. I mostly drink wine or low carb hard seltzers if on the beach. Get walking there as well when im doing that.
15 Minute walk after dinner really does help. Basketball out of the question at this stage. But the dudes that still play just never stopped. Key from what they tell me is to not play with the very young. They play old school with lots of passing and cutting. Young Bucks do fill in but they say the good ones can read the room and play accordingly.

Wow you doing a lot (or have a lot to do )

Yeah, I have my old man moments in the gym, complaining about new age players and how they just stand around taking turns with the ball. Then you turn on an NBA game and they are doing the same thing now (which is why I didnt mind the triangle offense at the time). I also remember a time when I was the best 1on1 player in most gyms (back in my And 1 mixtape moments), but I used that skill (in my league games) to get easy buckets for the team to start us off on a positive note and eventually become a playmaker in the 2nd and 3rd quarter. And then towards the end (crunch time) it was my time. So I get these 1 on 1 guys today and if D.Mitch has that ability then we need that. What I don't like are the wanna be 1 on 1 players who think they are good but they are not. Or who think they can shoot, but have more attempts than points.

But now in my older years I appreciate the pick and roll plays. Especially since its less stress on the knees and I really value the team aspect of basketball. So I understand completely. Thats also why I don't have a lot of faith in Randle (low efficient ISO player). To me, he's a decent (not great) 1on1 player. But when he doesn't have the ball in his hands, he's basically a rebounder / ref complainer. And to me, if we are going away from Randle as the main offense, and he's going to be a roll player type, while D.Mitch (assuming he's a knick), Brunson and RJ fight over the ball for ISO plays. Then I rather see Obi get those minutes. Not because Obi is a better player, but it fits the scheme of having 3 iso players and Mitch as the defender. Obi would be the player who creates easy fast breaks buckets and stretches the offense from Rim to Rim (Randle is a half court player, Obi is a full court player). I haven't watched Bill Russell play much, but in one of his many interviews, that was a strategy of his (and you see it in highlights). Out run the bigs and by the 4th quarter, they are gasping for air. I see Obi as that type to run the other bigs until they are so tired, their jumpers and free throws are off, in crutch time. Or they get into foul trouble.

Speaking of IQ and his basketball off season runs. There's a youtube clip of a game highlighted by IQ and Trevelin Queen. Trevelin who actually signed with an NBA team used to and still does play at Lifetime fitness where I play at. I can't believe how good he is now, just watching him in the game. But IQ looks stronger and looks like he worked on his drives to the basketball more. If we don't trade him, I think he will show a huge improvement in his game (at least his drives to the rim game).

Love how you segmented from you, to randle, to bill russell! few degrees of seperation! LOL, good stuff.
ObI got a lot of spring because he plays fewer minutes? How that translates to starter minutes over a season remains to be seen. My hope is not about randle, but the team succeeding. How it gets there I don't know.
My expectation is Randle/Thibs/Coaching staff have broken his film down and they talked it out. We know he can play at all NBA levels but that might not be needed nor expected in high doses. He is either uncoachable or incapable. I don't know the answer but the coming season will show us.

Sounds like you are a hell of a player and enjoy the game. I do love playing tennis and I have to move. Its the aggregate of little things that add up. Big dudes don't live into their 80's frequently or do it well. Thus, I have to keep shrinking while keeping reasonable muscle mass. I have a big frame and can hide weight pretty good. The Scale don't lie.

So Nalod your a big guy huh? That makes since. I’m almost the exact same size as CP or deuce McBride

Yeah you guys don’t last long on the court unfortunately. Us little guys can play for ever. As long as you can shoot.

So I guess u have faith that Randle will adapt. If he does the Knicks will be a problem this season.

When D.Rose leadership join the Knicks during Quickley & Obi Toppin's rookie season .. Quickley started looking like the young rookie Donovan Mitchell we missed in the draft, and Obi Toppin's started showing us he had hands and hops to catch and score above the rim in several different ways, rather than hang-out on the perimeter on every shoot 3's for coach Thibs 7 min of playing time a game.

In their 2nd season the Quickley & Obi Toppin chemistry grew into a scoring tandem in (Thibs) 10 to 18 min of playing time a game giving us Knicks fans lob pass scoring, ball-movement, and fast break scoring.

I'm looking forward to watching the Knicks 3rd season tandem of Quickley's floaters & lobs to Obi Toppin grow into a dynamic nucleus of finding new ways of scoring quick inside baskets.

Agree with this. Not spoken about much is how important chemistry is. Something that does not develop in a couple of weeks. This team looked a lot more comfortable at the end of the season. Feel that was the issue early in the year. You had TWO new starters that probably pressed and were still trying to figure out their roles.

However, I feel adding DM at reasonable price will impact the team more than those three. Imho.
The best case scenario is that the Knicks give your opinion a chance, wait to see how the current roster responds and if they do not like what they see, then look to make a trade. Win win. Only thing the FO may be worried about is that DM may be gone by then. Some tough decisions. Glad I am not the one making them.
