I made a mistake last year overestimating the two new acquisitions and I thought Randle would turn into a star and the reality is everything went south. We lost the guy who really was responsible for the previous year Derrick Rose and IQ Barrett slumped badly early in season when we started losing many games.

This year we start off with major league depth---quality depth and Tom T will have to be at his best to organize/utilize it. Getting the most out of Rose and Randle while limiting their minutes.

Each of our young guys--Grimes IQ and Obi are going to be IMPROVED. We have a new battle tested PG who will take charge and also make big shots. This team has great continuity(an important aspect) but also a shake in the arm with two great additions. We have decent size and length. We werent as bad as our record last year and we have guys getting better with major reinforcements. I think we can play w anyone

BingBong @ 9/4/2022 9:14 AM
We basically have the same team as last year with another year of experience and growth with our youngsters. Then add Brunson and Hartenstein to the mix and I think we are better. I'd like to see Reddish get more opportunity to see what he can bring to the table. And who knows, maybe we even get to see Jokubaitis this year to see if he's the real deal. Regardless, we are better than last year IMO and barring injuries, we could surprise a lot of people. Sooooo glad we didn't give up the bulk of our very talented youngsters plus all of our draft capital for Mitchell.

I wouldve been disappointed w that trade. Its too much--notice 90% of fans think we did the right thing. Nobody on this board upset. Our team is set--now focus on first twenty games to see what is what

Think, like myself, most fans are risk adverse. We place a lot of value on hope/pride for our young players. At the end of the day it was a risk of losing "potential" starters for a kid that is already one of the top players in the league. Would it have been smarter to go with a sure thing? We may end up using those picks and realizing the kids we have are not as good as we thought. Let's hope after 4 years we don't look back and realize all we have is a whole bunch of Frankies, Knoxs, Mozgovs, Chandlers and still looking for a big name to come here to take us out of being mediocre.

But like I said, most of us don't have the balls to give that much up and take the chance of it not working out. Can't lie though, wish Rose would have. Would have been pretty disappointing at first with the haul but have a feeling I would have been excited to have that kind of player wearing a Knicks uniform. One that could go toe to toe with the leagues best.

As for thread topic. My biggest excuses last year were lack of PG and having two new starters in the lineup. Things which greatly affect chemistry. A good PG can sometimes help speed that up. We did not have that. We also had around 16 games lost by 6 or less. With many leads lost late in the game. Also agree that a good PG Rose/JB will help guys like RJ and IQ. Hoping so anyway.

It's almost as if you are saying it's "Time for Optimism."

I’d feel a lot better if I had more faith in Thibs as an offensive coach. I suffer watching this team struggling so hard on offense, looking sluggish without strategic movement, so rarely appearing to run plays designed to free someone for a better shot.

I’m open to hearing different views. If someone thinks they see something different in our offensive schemes I would really like to hear that.

Agree that moving the ball around to a free shooter is imperative for a vibrant offense. With the addition of Brunson and Hart, I think there is reason for optimism as both players instinctively find open guys and make great passes. Hart is amazing with his passing the ball to the open guy while drawing double teams. He might be the best passing big man in the league. Should be an interesting season for sure.

Get ready for RJ and Fournier in the corners, Randle on the wing, and Brunson and Robinson pick and rolls all night long.

Get rid of Randle and this team makes a lot of sense, which I think (success or not) will be a fun team to watch and root for- I like that (Randle aside) they seem to like and enjoy playing with each other

Let’s give Randle another chance w a good mature pg. less more efficient minutes

Like 28 for Randle 20 for obi and if either is hot than go w that guy longer

Undertand the optimism
however I dont see Today NBA League stocked with NBA talents on bunch of teams
being in fear of Brunson, Randle, RJ, and Rat pack (Obi, Rose, Grimes & Immanuel)

Dont see that getting it done in NBA East,
feeling sorry for team already

Jimbo5 @ 9/4/2022 7:07 PM
Im hoping a trade or 2 is still coming to unload Randle and Fournier but i guess thats asking too much from this FO. Even if the two are still a knick i hope Thibs can still feature the youth more this season (obi, Grimes and Cam) even if it doesnt always translate into wins. Developing all the young players in the long run will be a win on its own. I hope RJ, Bronson obi, IQ and Grimes have a breakout season. I'm hopeful we see signs of both RJ and Grimes' potential to be stars. If the young knicks can take another step forward maybe they can be the Memphis of the East.

I still believe Thibs is a good coach best suited for a more established team. Im excited how Brunson can elevate this team higher.

I’d like to see that - I think 28 is too few- a hard 32, which will be hard for Thibs, but to get Randle to play all out, hustle would be great. I don’t see how Cam gets any time unless there are injuries.

I’m think we should try RJ, Randle, Obi, Hart & M Rob as the main guys to get majority of the minutes from 3, 4 & 5- go big or go small as needed.

The only reason you can say that is because Thibs got all star level production out of Randle for 1 year. I think they can do the rebound from last year. But I do agree that if they don’t, one of them will be on the way out.

Team should trade Rose, and the second unit should be IQ,Evan,Cam,Obi, and Heart.

Completely agree. The Mitchell conversations have killed momentum but Brunson is a missing piece this team needed that should improve the whole group. My hope this summer was to keep everything the same but add Brunson and a healthy rose. Grimes is the X factor. Barrett obviously needs to take that next step but Grimes might be the complimentary piece that brings this team to another level as well. Hoping for this Brunson/ grimes backcourt to take off. Hoping for a recovery from Randle and the bench to continue to beat other benches.

I’m saying Randle because we drafted a top 8 PF and 4 yrs later we still don’t know what we have. RJ stepped up last year while Randle stepped back. Since we missed on DMitch, it’s time to see what this young core can do. With thibs around he’s not playing the young core (more specifically Obi).

We have lots of draft picks so now is the perfect time to play the youths and move the vets. Either give Thigs a roster of youths that he has to play or move thibs and replace with a coach that’s aligned with this development roster which is only getting younger with all these picks we now have.

Cam is another example of Leon Rose and Thibs not on the same page. Cam needs mins along with Obi, IQ and Grimes. But we can’t wait until 10 games left to play them. And knick fans got a glimpse last year. No DMitch ok, play the yoots. I don’t think we want to see Fournier and Randle taking up starter mins and Rose taking up bench mins. While Cam and Sims are DNP each game.

gradyandrew @ 9/4/2022 10:05 PM
The most obvious window for Obi to get more minutes closed when the Knicks signed Hartenstein. Thibs has been reluctant to play Obi and Randle together and that more or less sealed it. Obi doesn't make 3's or protect the rim necessitating the signing of Hart next to him.

Cam had a short run before injury. Let's not read too much into Thibs wanting him to learn the defense for 10 games before throwing him into the rotation. From Feb 7- March 7 he got steady 16 minutes a game. Then he got injured.

I could see a scenario where Grimes, IQ, Reddish, and Toppin average about 20 minutes a game and play longer whenever the start ahead of them is having a bad night. You know like normal NBA rotations… this year the Knicks should have a very strong bench and Thibs would be smart to utilize them.

Times 2! He needs a shorter leash for when things are going sideways. Most importantly a plan to get whoever is playing well in during the last 5 minutes of games. There were a bunch of them where the bench had some good momentum only to watch Randle brick and turnover us into defeat. There were plenty of times when Obi outplayed Randle. I felt like IQ closed more games as a rookie than as a sophomore.
