Knicks · Predict the East Playoff/Play-in Seeds 1-10... (page 1)
As much as I hate the nyets, I think they are set up to take the east. Lots of question marks, but they still have the best player in the east and arguably the bets offensive team in the east. I think Simmons is a seamless fit with his ability to guard the oppositions best wing, as well as his vision and ability to allow Kyrie to focus on scoring. Harris is back and I thought O'neal was a sneaky good signing. They also added Warren who will have a chance to recapture the buzz he had during the bubble. Kyrie is the wild card, but he is seeking a contract extension athletes tend to be on their best behavior and in the best shape in contract years. But, it is Kyrie, so it can go either way.

I left Knicks at #8 to match my response in the Hang Yo Ass thread. That said, I could see the Raps, Bulls, Pistons and even the Pacers being bad matchups for the Knicks. The Cavs are my wildcard. Mitchell could really be that missing piece, or Gobert could have been masking his weaknesses. I like their starting lineup over the next 4 years. It doesn't take much for us to drop quite a bit in the East.

I'm not that high on the Nets during the regular season. I expect Kyire and Durant to miss a decent amount of time. I also don't think grabbing the #1 seed is as important to them. Giannis is going to balls to the wall. I would reorder the top 4 like this:
1)Mil
2)Philly
3)Heat
4)Nets
5)Celtics
I could also see Detroit pushing the bottom half.

Good point on the nyets during the regular season. Either way, I think they can represent the easy in the finals. I almost put the pistons in the 1oth spot. There are young in some areas but they have a ton of talent. Maybe if I would have this thread "hang ya ass out there" I would have

I think the same regarding the Heat. They are one Jimmy Butler/Fat PG/Bam injury away from being 6-10 team.

True, Spolstra is from the Pat Riley coaching tree where every game single game is treated like game 7. They always tend to overachieve during the regular season similar to Riley's Mourning and Hardaways Heat teams.

Agree with everything you said plus harden is apparently in great shape and ready for an 82 game lovefest with the refs. Cavs are going to be really good this year
I’m worried about the Knicks. If we miss the playoffs Thibs will be the scapegoat and to an extent Rose and we may be heading back to Isiahville in 2024. We could be better this year and still end up the 11th seed
Philc1 wrote:I don’t see Nets getting 60+ games from both KD and Kyrie. That’s what they would need to finish with a top 2 seed in the East which is a lot tougher this year
Nobody see’s it because in this has yet to occur with them. Its a profound observation. That you made it increases their odds. The obvious is easy to speak of. Winning is tough.
I’d say they attempt to finish top 4 and get favorable home court advantage but not wear out.
There is much here to think about. Simmons has not played in a long time. Does he over come both mental and physical issues? I guess the same for Kyrie. He is playing for his contract and career. Flake out and he is a 15mm player but on LA next year.
Durant is about legacy now.
Simmons is about maturity and moving forward past his issues and hostile fans who cared little about his person.
Harris coming off surgery.
Nash not lose his team to start the seaon.
On paper very formidable.
Easy to predict their downside. Easy if one enjoys it.
For me I might be sympathetic to simmons if he got the yips. Pro players get them. He was young, rich, arrogant, and handled it bad. So did his team. Both did. I don’t need villains in my life. I prefer to draw inspiration from those who over come adversity. True character comes from it. Despite hard work he had relative easy path to stardom and did not mature in ways men have to when faced with issues. Human interest story to behold. Does he rise up or not. Very private issue in a very public setting!!!!
Kyrie is a comic book character. Total flake. Seems nobody on his teams hate him other than his inability to focus on his profession. Its a big deal for Nets and their fans. For the rest of us he is entertaining on and off the court. This is one of the most talented skilled players to play the game and the most puzzling personality. Not evil but just a different kind of person.
Durant. I regret hating Jordan so much because of what he did to knicks over the years that I did not make mistakes to hate guys like Lebron and Durant as to appreciate their game. Thus, Im not into the hate of them moving to new teams. Thats on them. I get what he tried to do in Brooklyn. That he wants to leave is not cool, but Kobe wanted out too and was not given that trade and he came back from that. I prefer to judge the play on the court. These guys are not normal humans any way. Why do we hold them to certain standards. Jordan was an asshole. Likely Durant is too. But but they are basketball players and earned fame on the court, not the court of public opinion.
Jordan was pigeon holed to stay with bulls because of cap rules. They paid him a fortune his last few years, more than double any other could. In todays game he could have moved more freely?
If nets implode its an interesting story. If they succeed its an interesting story.
What would really drive it for knick fans? They meet in the playoffs!!!!! Something with meaning!!!
2. Bucks - team is fine losing some games to keep its main guys healthy.
3. Knicks - I know it’s crazy, but with Brunson I think this can be a 50 win team
4. Heat - Butler and Lowry are aging. I see them nursing injuries to keep their guys healthy for the playoffs
5. Celtics - last year was a strange mirage. They got hot at the right time.
6. Nets - KD and Kyrie will each miss 20-30 games.
7. Cavs - sure they got Mitchell, but how does he mesh with the team?
8. Hawks - two ball dominant players on the same team? Sounds good for fantasy bball but I’m not sure how this plays out.
9. Raptors
10. Bulls
Maybe I’m nuts here (probably a big homer) but the Knicks are arguably the deepest team in the league - and in this day and age of “taking care of your investments” - we’re a team of young players with a coach who likes he keep his foot on the gas pedal. We’re ideally suited to grind.
Perhaps some of the other more star-driven teams will experience more loss from fragile stars.

With your demonstrative daft reading comprehension combined with short attention span I would expect reading the instructions on how to make Campbells soup exhausts you in similar fashion.
Perhaps you can catalog my posts for night time reading as those Dr Suess books must get awfully redundant after a while. Glad you find some purpose to my efforts!
Playoff pairings:
How fun would a Net-76er series be with a healthy Harden vs healthy Simmons?
The basketball fan in me would love to see that!
Durant vs. GSW? Final? Either outcome makes for great drama.
Fans love story lines to build tension. NBA loves the ratings.
Sarver Sale and Suns win? Very successful franchise to have never won a chip.
