Rejects 7 yrs 213mm. Like Stantons deal it might have years that are larger than others. Keep it simple for avg.
The sequence I assume will matter but not for thread talk.
That deal avg was 30mil. Highest non pitcher Salary is Trout at 37mm. He Gets hurt and Angels have not done well.
Then Aaron has a season for the ages. Kudos to him. Issue is he will be 31 years old next season. His health? Its mixed. Seems like he was hurt a lot but looking back there was the Covid short season and maybe its like a bad stretch that he seems to have figured out. But Stantons injuries are concerning and having both is an issue financially. But they are fun to watch and they do elevate having each other. Teams have to respect them and pitch to one or the other.
Im reading its being predicted he’ll command a deal for $330 mil either over 8 or 9 years. Is 36mm for 9 ytd ot 41mm over 8. Inflation, TV deals, etc all factor in.
The Hal Factor. He’s no George. Its a different era and George had the shipping business back in the day. George had a lot of bad takes also over a long ownership career. The best was when he stopped starphuching in part due to one of his notable suspensions and the team build around the Core 4 in the Roid era. They had older guys to suplliment the yoot like chili davis, Paul O’neil, and ressurected Cleamons play incredible into their mid and upper 30’s. Scott Brocius, a journeyman player becomes Babe freaking Ruth as a yankees late in his career. It was what it was. What it was, was a different era of play and money.
Hal is steward over the team that is the primary wealth for the family. Like the Buss family owners of the lakers. No major tech company behind them. And there is a form of cap thats different than 20 years ago. Yankees still in top 5 spending. There are different ways to build a team also.
Yankees have been keeping relevant and making post season pretty regularly. Fans take this for granted a bit and yearn for WS win!
yanks in a pickle here. Judge is likely MVP or runner up. You pay for future performance and Marketability. In a league that is void of personalities and charisma (no reggie jax out there “stirring it up” is he that guy? Ethnically diverse, tall, handsome, and hits the long ball. If he fades into mediocrity its gets ugly.
With no roids can a player really last 8-9 more years and produce at that level?
Does he want to stay in NY even? Does he get that killer money on other teams and if so dilute the talent around him that also makes his numbers hard to achieve. Big luxury to have Stanton in the line up! Not like he won’t have pressure on other teams either.
Yankees don’t appear to discount age very well. Probably need to infuse a bit more youth into the front office. They are sitting on that Stanton contract and will be for a few more years. I think Jusge comes back with an overpriced contract and a captaincy. Not going to say he doesn’t “deserve” it, he gave us one of the more exciting offensive seasons of my lifetime. I just think they need better healthy pitching.
As great a player as he is -- you crapped out with him, you can crap out without him. Without access to steroids and the like he has a few elite seasons left likely - barring injury, Money spent better elsewhere. But a tip of the cap to Judge, who earned his payday.
