Knicks · SGA is a better trade target than Mitchell (page 1)

Knicks still have all those picks, talent to offer. The FO would be buying high. But I doubt its getting lower for SGA. If its lower than Mitchell's asking price, I hope the FO pounces.

Wont be cheap but maybe a deal leaves us competitive. The Mitchell asking price didnt.

only the tabloids think he's available... he's not. He's their build around player. They have all the picks they need.

The only deal they would consider is if you won pick #1 and offered them that pick (Wemba) and you get back SGA.

SGA is the star they got lucky with. They have crazy top tier talent around him and in the pipeline. Their cache of picks ensures crazy flexibility moving forward.

Let this one go.

And Mitchell wasnt available...until he was. Its all speculation until it happens.

Mitchell would have given us an undersized backcourt. Wouldnt be an issue with SGA.

I agree he seems like a better option if available, but doesn’t seem like he is.

SGA might ask for a trade to a major market team. Most trade requests are honored these days. They would get a nice haul.

I agree its no sure thing. But my point remains that there are trade targets out there who are a better fit than DM. Our shot at relevance didnt end with him.

RJ and 6 1st rounders gets it done. He has PER inside the top 10. He’s keeping them in games and relevant.

SGA is a better version of RJ. He has the same drive to the basket game, but he is more athletic and more of a passer. Like RJ, he is not a great 3pt shooter or defender (but he is improving in both areas). I would be open to trading for him but I don’t know if he and RJ are a good fit together because neither are great outside shooters. I would make an offer of RJ, Toppin, and two first round picks for SGA. Brunson, SGA, Reddish, Randle, and Mitch is a solid team.

I like SGA and as much as I have been an RJ supporter - I'd trade him and picks for SGA due to his defensive potential.

I agree that having both RJ and SGA in the same lineup would magnify our limited outside shooting struggles.

I also suspect the team struggles would continue until Randle either adjusts his role (less ball handling) or is benched in an effort to help him adapt. While the talent and production is there - his current style of play would not help bring out the best in SGA and his abilities.

Yep, If we went hard after him last season we could have gotten him. No chance now. Would you trade him if your OKC? So, far this season he is one of the top 5 players in the league

I think the biggest difference is that SGA is an elite fast twitch athlete. RJ is merely above average. You see it in the way they move, the way SGA can make adjustments mid-move and look fluid, while RJ looks somewhat rehearsed and mechanical.

Then there's the playmaking skills. The way SGA sees the floor, handles the rock, and passes is PG-like. Of course, this is helped by the way he can use quickness to get a step on defenders. RJ doesn't have as quick a step or as explosive, so everything is harder.
Maybe those skills are hidden away in RJ too, but he's just not as elite an athlete. (Kind of the way Ray Allen was just better all-around than Allan Houston

I would only do this if we get to keep our own pick in 2023.
With so much talent in this next draft and this current regime's track record on picks, we have a good chance of picking up several good players.

knicks 2023 picks:

• 2023 - Own
• WAS 15-30 (Will likely convey if current trends persist)
• DAL 11-30 (projected high teens w/ current standings)
• DET 19-30 (This will not convey in 2023)

The Knicks are primed for consolidation trade 2 or 3 for 1, whether it is for a superstar or not.
There is either too much talent or too much committed payroll across all 15 roster slots.
With what is very likely 3 decent players joining the team via those 2023 draft picks, the team will have no choice.

I don't think there is a scenario where Derrick Rose, Ryan Arcidiacono, and Trevor Keels are still on this team next year without a consolidation trade.

I agree that we should be able to move up in this draft, probably in the 7-10 range depending on where we finish. We should have two picks in the teens unless the wheels fall off on this season, which might be a good thing this year.

RJ gained a ton of weight from his waist down and it’s slowed him down even more IMO.

I so badly wanna eat RJ crow from the crow buffet but I just don’t see it happening

Knicks 3 “best” players in RJ Randle Brunson have sucked ass on defense this year.

I do feel that the FO has to at least project that they’d like to build around an RJ type but think they move him in a heartbeat for the right return. Obviously same with Randle.
