30. New York Knicks| Average rank: 26.75

Midrange FG percentage: 27th
3s: 22nd
3-point percentage: 30th

Analysis: The Knicks are the NBA’s worst shooting team to start the season. New York’s presence in the midrange has been comparable to the Rockets. That is, there is no presence in the midrange. That has been especially disappointing for Jalen Brunson, the team’s top offseason acquisition, who has also shot below 30 percent above the break from 3. Julius Randle has started to come around with his shooting, but RJ Barrett was well under 30 percent from 3 to start the season. Evan Fournier, who set the franchise record last year for 3s in a season, lost his rotation spot. Obi Toppin is the team’s best shooting big, but he is underused when healthy, which he isn’t now. And Immanuel Quickley, the team’s top bench scorer, has struggled to shoot efficiently as well. Fortunately for New York, shooting isn’t everything, as it grabs enough offensive rebounds and defends well enough to stay afloat in the East.

Please oh please do not trade for Patrick Beverley and send Deuce back to DNPs!!!

Article should conclude that like EF "who set the franchise record" Obi needs to do more than be the "best 3pt shooting big" in order to garnish more minutes. Not that he is "underused". Shooting that, btw, was not good the last 10 games before his injury.

Maybe these numbers are a little dated? I feel like the Knicks have shot well during the win streak.

The median for three point shooting % is around 36% and the Knicks have inched up to about about 33% for the season. But they have shot about 38% the past 3 games (not sure how quickly these stats have been updated).

If you can’t shoot the 3 you have to at least defend the 3 well. After years of watching mediocre nba teams get guys wide open at the 3 point line against us we now have Deuce flying around on the perimeter. Grimes playing smart knowing when not to give help D and stay disciplined on the perimeter also a big help

HofstraBBall @ 12/15/2022 9:38 AM
Our big three 10-20 from 3pt. Entire team at 52%
Combo of JR,JB,IQ,Grimes,MR hold the Bulls to 1 FG in OT.
Randle and JB with 7 dimes.
Big three with 83 points.
Grimes a team best +14 and clutch threes.
Knicks with 15 offensive rebounds.
gradyandrew @ 12/15/2022 10:35 PM
Knicks starting lineup is at +12 per 100 possessions.

For comparison, Horford Tatum White Brown Smart are +15 in fewer minutes.

This starting lineup has been wrecking opponents.

HofstraBBall @ 12/17/2022 9:19 AM
JB and Grimes 11-18 from 3pt.
Randle and IQ 2- 15
JB breaks his record for 3pt made in a game.
Randle leads team with 12 boards and 3 steals.
RJ good down hill game and 3-5 from three. Team high +28
Knicks force 20 TO's

Biggest number...6 ****ing wins in a row!!

Exactly that’s why building a team around defense first will cover up any offensive issues or 3pt%.

We all know deuce is not a good 3pt shooter (I think he’s better than what his stats say but regardless). And we know IQ have been shooting a very low % all year along with RJ and sometimes Randle and even JB. So this new rotation with added defenders in deuce and IQ getting more mins doesn’t fix their 3pt% issues they’ve had all year. But it fixes the defensive issues on the perimeter. So NOW we can win games regardless of our low %. And on days when the shooting is better, it can lead to blowouts. We shot a low % yesterday and got a blow out win. Think about that. That’s never happened before with this Randle led roster built around 2 now 3 offensive juggernauts.

HofstraBBall @ 12/19/2022 9:45 AM
Knicks 8-26 from three. RJ 0-5, Randle 2-8, Deuce 1-4.
Randle with 14 rebounds.
MR 13 rebounds , 5 offensive, 4 blocks.
JB only 3 Assists and 22 shots.
Grimes only 3 shots?
RJ team best +11.
Knicks 16 turnovers.

7 in a row!!

HofstraBBall @ 12/21/2022 8:55 AM
Knicks 8 in a row. Most in 30 years.
Knicks with 27 assists. 5 each by big three.
IQ and Grimes combined for 8-15 from 3pt.
Grimes, team high +33!
Randle 12 boards, MR with 11.
IQ team high 22 points.

Let's go!!

HofstraBBall @ 12/22/2022 8:23 AM
RJ and Randle combine for 60pts.
RJ 4-6 from 3pt 57% overall.
IQ stayed hot with 7-10.
Knicks with 16 TO's. JB and RJ with 9 of them.
Raptors with 16 offensive rebounds.
JB and off night with 3-14.
Siakam 52 and TO's difference in the game.

1 is important number now. Which is the start of next streak.
