Knicks · The Deuce (page 1)

Have to admit. We all love Deuce. Can change a game with his defense presence.
Offensively challenged.
Haven't we seen this movie before recently?
fishmike @ 12/5/2022 2:22 PM
he's gotta make a phuckin basket. I mean the love only goes so far. Put the round thing through the metal hole with the hoop
franco12 @ 12/5/2022 5:27 PM
He was plus 8 and didn’t score. We have a long history of offensively challenged point guards- Charlie Ward, Chris Childs, Darrell Walker- that help us win games.

He doesn’t need to score, but that will be nice- and it will happen, I am sure (hopeful.)

His energy is infectious on both sides of the ball.

BigDaddyG @ 12/5/2022 6:17 PM
The moments Thibs drops a Deuce in the backcourt y'all go wild. I'm not gonna judge your proclivities. Can't wait to see your reactions when he drops more Grimey Deuces in the backcourt over the the course of the season.

Agree. I think he needs the minutes to get comfortable. Cool the jitters. Minutes are so sporadic and so limited that you can see him forcing things. He’s one of the major reasons I am willing to “tank”. Just give the kid some more minutes to get comfortable. Same sized hoop in Westchester that he is scoring at will on.

I know Reddish is playing a similar way and making dumb mistakes. Kind of want to let these guys work through their issues with the same length leash Barrett and Randle get.

maybe he's our "Marcus Smart"

To lazy too look up stats right now but I believe Smart was pretty bad offensively when he first entered the league. His defensive is what kept him around and play making is what kept him around until his offense caught up (a bit)

Deuce dropping treys again in the G-LEAGUE. Get them reps in!

doubt that- Marcus first year - 7.8 points in 27 minutes, 67 games 462 efg. .367 fg. .335 3pt

If that's bad- and I agree, he was rough, he'd be our 2nd best shooter this year! (kidding, third!)

But I am here for McBride and it is why I think this FO should be kept- I think they have found some gems in the draft.

The movie I referenced, it was in French
It was not in subtitles either!
Knixkik @ 12/5/2022 10:49 PM
No way he can’t make an open 3 from time to time. That’s all he needs to be a rotation player.
Chandler @ 12/6/2022 8:18 AM
A lot of it is shot selection. He needs to drive more. He’s stout enough to play through contact and draw fouls

Also a lot of his shots are w time expiring. Hopefully he settles in to the point where he’ll score if the opponent doesn’t pay attention

And he deserves minutes on his defense alone which is good enough to change momentum

Nalod @ 12/6/2022 8:32 AM
WE are developing him, not holding him back.
He has to get to a level of proficiency to get more time. Then he can learn more.
This is what the knicks are doing. its not a revelation once it happens its “See, told you we were holding him back”. NO, its progress and hard work by him.
He is on this roster because the team thinks he can.

100%

IQ went through this same path. Hesitant to keep his dribble and try to get past a player. Hesitant to try to get into paint. Maybe Deuce doesn't know how to use his body and first step yet. Hopefully he will get that.

Have to go back to his pre draft outlook and understand he was raw and needed time.
Im my view he exceeded his rookie year and EARNED his way in.
We talking a 2nd rounder. Odds are rare they make it. He is doing just fine in the big picture.
Lets be real, fire Thibs the next guy might cut his ass.

i think he's too deferential at the moment, which is understandable but at the same time he needs to be more of a threat to help his team (otherwise team is playing 4 on 5 on offense)

that said, even during his sucky periods, his defense can be worth it. Maybe we won't have to leave the three point line so open with guys leaving their man to help protect the paint?

Yep. Same with Obi to a certain extent.

To M&Ms defense, when he tries to work, IQ comes and stands next to him at the top of the key until he passes it to IQ. Very rarely is he given room to work. The vets call for the ball unless you chuck it before they get a chance.

I don't get the excitement for Deuce. We had Franck who had a similar profile. I really like both players but they have the same pros and cons. Franck impacted winning with his defense and the little things. Franck's physical attributes are even more enticing than Mc Bride. However like Franck, Deuce is not a playmaker or shotmaker. They are useful players but the lack of offense will hurt the team. Not as much as a lack of defense in my opinion but still.

Deuce seems like an Energizer bunny. Probably more of a history of being a scorer than Frank. Ie. g League. What some don't understand is that the coaching staff and eye test are often right. Fans complain about why their hopefuls "are not being given a chance" but fail to see that they absolutely have been. It's just that the "chance" takes place in practice and has to be taken advantage when given in a NBA game. The good news for Deuce, is that the coaching staff has seen things that they feel are good enough for him to be in the rotation. I trust them and will root for the kid.
And will probably defend him when the mob turns on him for not meeting their high expectations.

not at all... Frank had a handful of good stretches where he really helped the team win, he hit shots, and he immediately followed those stretches by missing a month or so with a groin or some other injury, come back and play like shit or get replaced in the rotation.

All we have seen from McBride are monster Gleague games and missing every shot he takes coming up here. He's had some nice energy and defense but that's not enough. He's gonna get a few games there. That's generally what Thibs does... give a player a stretch of games. Hopefully McBride breaks out, hits some shots and starts feeling it

That's his pattern. 10-15 game looks.
