Knicks · Any guesses as to why Randle playing so well? (page 2)

Fournier did stand a bit too close to him all the time looking for the outlet pass. Made it pretty easy to double him.
Hopefully JB is the savior to help minimize Randle outbursts. He might need to puff puff pass, so he can relax a little.

that's what I was thinking - Jayce is letting him sleep

Randle has the skills to be an all star, every season. But I dont trust him to be the key piece in a contender. Not the first or second option.
Thibs was blaming his teamates for not calming Randle down. Actually that's on the coach.
Dude, the guy just said it was on his mates to calm him down. Was it blame or was it “this is how we do it and it will next time”. Good team chemistry is guys play with and for each other. Phil Jax used to call time out and let his players sort out shit very often. They know what to do but the buy in and execution is always better when a well trained TEAM works together.
Sabonis is a master of drawing contact and dishing it. I think the whole team was getting frustrated by the calls yet Randle was getting hit.
Jules draws contact nearly every time to the hoop as he is also darn good at it. The call he drew his knee into Davis on a drive? Easy could have been an offensive foul. He has to chill out and stay in his rhythm. The actual quote from Thibs is more revealing: (give or take) "We all have to help Julius out in that situation, the players, the staff, the whole team, we all have to do better for him."
Thibs never throws direct shade. He would never blame anyone like as had been suggested.
To me Thibs is often overly team-bounding praise-y. He is the exactly the opposite of what Doc did to Ben Simmons.
Now the old school coach wants to sound new agey lol. Part of Thibs job as coach is to keep their heads in the game. Always been a coach's job. Expecting (in so many words) for the entire organization to keep Randle from going off the rails, doesnt sound encouraging, or inspiring.
This sounds too much like shades of JR Smith. Wondering when he was going to lose it. Dont believe Randle is at that level of unpredictability. But Randle is unpredictable enough IMO for the front office to explore wether or not there are some teams out there who are in win now mode. Who would be willing to pay a premium for Randle's services. As you alluded to. Happens all the time.
As the third or fourth option. Randle's erratic play, and temperament is easier to hide on a contender. Not on a contender where so much is riding on Randle not being distracted.
I’ve said this when this marriage started between Thibs and Randle. Thibs and probably most coaches have a difficult time with him.
If Randle can turn hard nose, in your face, old school,“Mr ACCOUNTABLE” Thibs into a team friendly pussy cat, that tells you how difficult it is to manage Randle.
I think if Randle was held accountable earlier, he might have grew out of this by now. But just today, listening to Randle hold himself accountable was encouraging to hear and see, vs reading his agents words on twitter. First time I remember him saying that in a press conference environment, so that’s encouraging and shows inner growth within himself.
I think he’s going to use this new energy to propel us into another run. We might be on another playoff streak into the 1st round, I wouldn’t be surprised if our defense is consistent. And this time our back court (DIG) is better than Payton.bullock.burks. even though we had a healthy rose.
But our guard defense and center defense (2 most important positions in basketball) opens the door for playmakers like the offensive 3 amigos (Randle, JB, RJ)
This 9 man rotation has a nice balance of the top defenders up and down the roster, mixed in with a healthy balance of gunners and rim protection. I believe as is, we are primed for a superstar to take us to the eastern finals. But the key is with out giving up too much depths or players.

I hope Randle comes around, keeps his emotions in check. But I still wouldnt turn down a good trade offer. Not suggesting that you believe he's untradeable.
Im just not confident that the chemistry issue is fixable.

Anytime you remove two non defenders, your chances of winning can increase, especially when we still have RJ who’s a volume shooter, JB was still playing before he got injured and the defensive guard rotation is getting better each game, im not surprised.
RJ at the 4 was huge. He played better on offense and it allowed thibs some roster flexibility.

Think Obi provides a lot of energy off the bench. Think the biggest difference in recent success has nothing to do with him being out, it's that Randle has stepped up his play and we made 3pt defensive rotation adjustments. Obi will be a positive impact when he gets back. Just needs to add a bit more defense, rebounding and creating off dribble. He has the ability to do so.

I don’t recall RJ getting big minutes at the 4 the last few games. I see Hart with Mitch, and With Sims. Randle out about 10 minutes resting.
What I see is better overall defense with Grimes and 20 min with Deuce giving them a lift. The starting lineup is killing it.
Kemets “Second team embarrassing 1st” is weird stuff. Derrick is not able to cover his position on defense. Good film breakdown of how they fixed teh defense is interesting. Both Randle and RJ are executing better on that side.
Windhorst podcast talks about knicks today. Nothing new that we don’t already discuss. Mostly Brunson can be great, but is good. Randle can be great, but is good, but nobody sees more then the well mentioned .500 and that might get them in the playoffs. The picks, why nobody wants to come here is mentnioend but not much more. Mark Spears compliments Randle as a cool guy to interview. he likes him. Personally, I do too and happy as anyone to see him back on track this year.
Obviously its a game of fine adjustments and this 9 rotation is doing good against weaker teams or teams with injuries. Without Reddish, Obi, Rose and EF (4 players!!!) and……… Grimes healthy the aggregate does amount to improvement. No need to fire the coach or make a reactionary trade. Briggs has been quiet, PHilC makes sense, and otehr than the usual grumpy dudes its been a fun stretch for us. Randle lapsed but we won and he was cool about it.
Sometimes as fans we are out of touch with the reality of how a team operates.
Regarding Reddish/EF trades? I think something gets done but we don’t need to attach picks to move them. This should be about Lakers NEEDING them. Im not saying this moves the needle for us by any stretch but they are not doing us any favors by taking him. Maybe come summer we finesse into a deal and need the cap space but not thinking we need to apply a pick now. We did need to with Brunson but we also got picks back. Aller will figure this shit out.

Last season, Randle was restless after his second child was born. Haarlow reported courtside during Saturday’s broadcast that he’s sleeping more this season and has cut down on binging Netflix late at night. But more importantly, he’s been intentional in finding his inner peace before each game by meditating

At the risk at sounding as an asshole but why was Randle watching the kid in the middle of the night? I would assume the mom would do most of the babysitting at night considering the dads profession.

So you're saying it was Kendra's fault 🤔

That falls on both parents to be fair. If their relationship and agreement was that both parents take turns watching the baby during the night even though one of the parents has a high stressful job that requires maximum sleep and recovery, that's on both.

this is the part we just dont have a vision into, but its clear SOMETHING was bugging him. Maybe she had some post partum and just wanted to be a good partner and help etc.
Lots of problems get brought into the office, and it doesn't mean they are all bad.
I just want ALL the guys to play well. I never hated Fournier but didnt like that signing. Im thrilled those minutes (and Rose's for that matter) are going to young guys who are ready to help us win.

I thought we make make villainy of the underachievers when we boo them?
I like EF. Got that cool french thing going and always root for him.
I don't hate on any knick and do like it when they succeed elsewhere. Tim Hardaway making good money in Dallas. Good for him. As long as he don't light us up we good.
KP, I hated what happend and he was an immature arse. THat was then. His failure does not sweeten our success or not.
But thats just me.
I don't do many trade rants because its about who comes in than who goes out.
Thus, when we get a new knick, we now have something better or opportunistic to cheer for.
I said this a long time ago, one of Obi or IQ will likley be traded. Nothing visionary here. Just a reality.
I understand IQ being a fan favorite here and Its not that I want him moved. Its about Grimes ascension and Brunsons inclusion more than anything IQ is or is not.
Who or picks that come back matter more than them being moved. Obi's leg if a long term thing might really put a damper on his progress and curious what happens this summer with his contract.
