I thought this was a really nice article by Ian.
Grimes’ shooting, defense – and overall health – are big factors in the Knicks’ eight-game winning streak.Forty-eight players have logged at least 250 minutes since the start of New York’s winning streak. No player has a better plus/minus than Grimes (+112) in that span, per NBA.com.
If you go back a little further to when the Knicks reinserted Grimes into the starting lineup, the numbers are just as impressive.
Grimes re-entered the starting lineup Nov. 21 against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Sixty-eight players have played 10 games in that span and averaged at least 30 minutes in those games. Grimes and Zion Williamson have the best net rating among that group (+9.1).
Again, none of this would surprise Thibodeau.
“Last year, he showed us how good he was defensively. So I think he’ll only get better and better as he gains more knowledge, becomes more familiar with each guy,” Thibodeau said earlier this month. “He studies and he’s just got a knack for it, he’s got a tenacity about him. He’s a big multiple effort guy. Great intensity all the time.”
Lets think about why Grimes as the SG is making a huge difference and unlocking better play from Randle, RJ and Brunson.
1) Defense - he is taking pressure off Brunson and Barrett on the defensive end because he is often taking onn the offense's best creator (on the wing or PG).
2) Spacing - his shooting and 3 point range gives a good catch and shoot outlet for Randle, RJ or Brunson who are often making forays into the paint.
3) Effort - his effort is setting a tone that is catching on to the rest of the starting lineup.
Anyone you acquire has to the do the same....

I've been watching Grimes/Randle. This is something that is really going to explode. Jules draws so many doubles and I am seeing him look for Grimes like he used to find Reggie and they were a great tandem that year. Except Grimes is already much better and diverse than Bullock.

Man, love the chemistry they are developing. I'm wondering if the FO thought Burks was going to fill that Grimes role. But there's a difference between a player thats SHOT READY (Grimes/Bullock) vs a SCORER (Burks/Cam/EF).
EF is tricky because he's a catch and shoot player, but even he said he can do more. Well so can Grimes. The difference besides the obvious (defense), Grimes is playing this catch and shoot role for the team. EF was trying to remove that catch and shoot label and didn't want to be labeled as such. Thats the difference between a Vet and a Hungry 2nd year player who simply looking to find solid ground. EF should be looking for a playoff team in need for a shooter so he can get himself a chip. EF defense will not be exposed on teams like the Bucks, who already have an established defensive culture.
The winning streak started when Grimes & Quickley kicked Barrett out of any guard duties on the court, which force RJ Barrett to stay at the forward position. Plus at the same time Brunson and McBride team up to take all the play making duties out of Randle hands forcing Randle to finally play PF instead of point-forward.
Adding 5 new players to the Knicks rotation has been a win win situation.
The Knicks 9 Man rotation
PG Brunson .. New
PG McBride .. New
SG Grimes .. New
SG Quickley .. Old
SF Barrett .. Old
PF Randle .. Old
PF Hartenstein .. New
Center MitchRob .. Old
Center Sims .. New

I told you guys a year ago the bulls would be begging teams to take Derozan by February 2023. I guess I was wrong it’s probably already happening

I don't think the FO will be pressured to make a big in-season trade as long as the Knicks remain competitive. The Donovan Mitchell trade still remains kinda the standard and this FO remains conservative in terms of its valuation of assets.
Is there a star SG out there that even makes sense for the Knicks, especially considering Brunson/Grimes?
I can't even come up with one reasonable name that I'd include Grimes in a trade and for which a team would give up a star SG. Cause there is no way you are keeping him out of the trade, right?
Jesus man, had me cracking up. Beal might be available since it looks like Washington is again going nowhere but we agree because if his contract an age, he's not a good fit. That's why I look at Rozier. Thibs likes his type of strong combo guard. He's not an all star, but he's close, something like 75% of Donovan Mitchell for half the price. He's the same.age as Randle and on a reasonable contract.
The rotation gets clogged with him JB and IQ, so for now, like any deal- I don't pull the trigger.
In reality land guys like Beal, Rozier, and Lavine make zero sense to even mention. Like wasted typing time. I don't even know why you'd bring them up.
Those guys are just names and not even great names. It’s not like trading for Sprewell or Carmelo in their primes not even close. I’d rather stick with the guys we have and maybe someone who is legit superstar becomes available next summer
Alec Burke for Cam is the type of trade we pull off. Detroit try out Cam and Burks can be situational or a rotation piece.

No, I don't think I can trust Thibs around Alec. Gotta keep that temptation a few state lines away.

Might still be useful. Or a player like Ricky Rubio
As much as we need another SF (Cam or Derozan) in Thibs rotation, to enter the midseason riding a 10 man rotation to have at least 10 players on the same page for playoff injuries.
The NO Grimes in coach Tom Thibs 9 man rotation were reduce to 8 players against a Raptor team on a 6 game loser streak ....
Have me believing we do need Zach Lavine in the rotation, or start looking for a new Knicks head coach for the 2023-24 season.

Optimal would be to get a decent wing with Rose,EF and Cam. Maybe a second or two.
Lavine will cost a lot. Probably above and one of our current rotation players and first. He would also be an expensive health risk for a guy that may have trouble fitting in to an already crowded field of guys that put up a lot of shots.
Cannot read too much into yesterday game. Fact was we were sloppy with the ball and Sik was on.
Would have liked to see Cam in yesterday instead of Rose. Maybe even in the starting lineup. Especially with Raptors length at the wings.
Rozier as microwave role perhaps. Pay more attention to his time missed, and his size also. It’s not about him not relevant given Lameo unexpected rise. I bring him in if Drose is traded.
Bulls are poster child for what many fans might have wanted in a leveraged quick fix. Likely that comes from the owner.

Is there two different hofstras? The one who likes to bust my balls and this one whom I agree with? You account must be hacked!

Don't disagree with people. Just with ideas.
Being just a fan, we put out always changing quick reaction type opinions.
Imo, based on just the last month, not enough for FOs to make moves, we need another wing with length that can score and defend. We need a solid backup at PF that is a better defender and rebounder than Obi. And a backup PG that can defend and penetrate. We may have those on the roster but it would take certain players stepping up.
Hoping we do not do a move for a guy like Lavine or OG. Just do not see enough risk reward there.
Just get me 2 solid wing defenders that cam]n make an occasional bucket —- bench players that ca slot in with starters when needed and who will keep our defense rev’d high.
Guys like a Bullock, Finley-Smith…etc — just some solid long defenders.
Also if we were to move quick — get a legit (true) back-up PG in here —- maybe in Ty Jones mode or like a D Melton type.
I take back D Melton being a pure PG but he would be nice back-up.
More like : " Should the Knicks listen to offers of multiple unprotected first round picks for Grimes?" I don't think they should. I wouldn't trade Grimes for Donovan Mitchell straight up at this point.

Grimes was kept out of DM talks for a reason.
Been saying he is our best hopeful for a reason.
No way they include him in any trades talks. Especially for just draft capital.
Keep saying, it would be smart for Knicks to get another wing that can defend and shoot the three.
Rose , Cam and EF will be traded. They just don't want to include a draft pick doing so.
Winning streak points stronger to staying patient.
