Knicks · Dallas Pick Watch (page 10)
GustavBahler wrote:From the Athletic:The other aspect that makes this so interesting, of course, is that the Mavs suddenly seem to be in a race against time. They have a 24-year-old basketball prodigy on their team who could be a free agent in three years and whose frustration seems to be on the upswing. If you don’t think rival teams are already sniffing around, you must be new to this league.
Ahem, knicks
Knixkik wrote:Great win for Dallas tonight. If they go 3-3 and finish 40-42, that’s probably ideal.

Click here to view the TweetSo true. But there’s also such a tight race right now. A quick run could have this pick back in the late teens (although unlikely). Don’t want that either. But we want them to jump ahead of someone in the west for sure. 11-12 would be so perfect.
Living on the edge......
It’s annoying this wasn’t an unprotected pick because at the time KP had that type of perceived value.
He was hurt, but I agree. That pick was to protected. Should have been 1-4.

KP wasnt just hurt, he was invovled in a lot of drama. Was in a brawl, was accused (falsely) of rape. Was trashing mgmt left and right. It was all of it that made that pick protected where it was.
In addition, a 7fter with that kind of injury, is more of a question mark than if it happened to a guard.

It boggles my mind that some fans see the KP to Dallas trade as anything but a big win for the Knicks. Look up the results. But it doesn’t fit “the narrative” I know. And of course the FO “should’ve” done this or that. If we were there we would have done it right!

We waited way too long to trade KP. The exact right time was 2017 when Phil got barbecued by most Knicks and the entire media for even asking other GMs what they were willing to give us for him. The trade Perry did later on still worked out I guess we got rid of him and dumped THJ’s crappy contract which allowed us to sign Randle

The rape allegation leaked out months after the trade. The Knicks definitely had knowledge of it. I don’t know if other franchises did
As far as KP’s diva nonsense, the perception was he was justified in acting like a problem child here because we were the dysfunctional Knicks. Now the entire league knows KP is a jerk. Good luck to whatever sucker GM gives him $160 million guaranteed next summer

Phil wanted to trade KP for Lauri, who was just as injury prone. Coincidentally they're both having their breakout season.

There were several trades Phil was negotiating. One was KP straight up for Dearron Fox. The kings ultimately said no after thinking about it. The Celtics offered us Jaylen Brown plus picks and Dolan vetoed it.

Other teams have intel, wouldnt surprise me if they knew.
KP admitted that he was immature, and took some bad advice (probably talking about Janis)
I'd welcome him back.

As far as I can tell, both teams said the Knicks were asking for too much. Nothing about Dolan vetoing the trade.

Just FYI, the link regarding the Boston trade does nothing to support your assertion Dolan vetoed a Brown trade and does a lot to contradict it.
Phil got canned for trading the face of the franchise and potential Unicorn.
I do recall Dolan was not fond of moving KP. While few things in life pleasure me more than calling out PhilC's arrogant prognostications or selective fictional memory he is more correct than not.
I can't verify him vetoing a trade but did fire phil at a very weird time. I doubt it was for drafting Frank.
Protections: Makes sense its was not 1-4 from Mav's standpoint. We talking a team that went to conf. finals last year. That pick earlier it never would be this "frustrating".
But, if it was a top 5 pick, that means KP was a disaster move for them and knicks should not be as compensated.
Remember what Isiah did? YOu don't do that. Eddy sucked and instead of us retaining a high lotto pick we still gave it away. Isiah taught the league about protecting picks.
From Dallas view the protections made sense. We won the trade when we signed Randle with the cap space. We just did not know it then. The rest was gravy.

I’m assuming that would give Mavs the tie breaker if they end tied with either LA or NO - is that right?
