Can't say I blame them.
They tried, they failed, now look to the future.

Kudo's to Darvin Ham for keeping lakers together after a rough start. Very rough!
None to Jason Kidd who might be on the way out?
Resign Kyrie.
What a shit show they had this year after a successful 2021-2022.

Reiterate they should consider trading Luka. Let Kyrie be the man.
Can't just say it without a proposal. "Randle, IQ, and their pick back". Im assuming it does NOT convey this year. Frees them up to make other moves. Do I throw in another pick? Sure. They are easy to type.
They get an all star, an up and coming player, two picks. Sure I give them RJ over IQ. My take is IQ can start next to Kyrie. Brunson stays.

Imagine having Kyrie/Luka and I think a mostly healthy squad and you tank while still having a shot.

... so you're saying there's a chance!

I mean, I hate the Mavs, I hate Kyrie, that would be awesome to see. I would love nothing more than Mark Cuban, in between ripping peopMle off with cryptocurrency, to have to re-sell the how KP trade after getting their lotto pick snatched away by chance

Err. My bad. It would have to be a team after Dallas that makes the leap. Still a lot to be determined. Final 3 for the Mavs are all at home where they are 6 games above .500

Always a possibility, but more than likely, we need Dallas to win at least 1 more game and OKC to lose out in order to force the coin flip. Their final game vs. SA could be a savior.

Dallas last 3 games:
vs. Sacramento (47-31)
vs. Chicago (38-40)
vs. San Antonio (20-58)

OKC (1.0 game ahead of Dallas).
@ Golden State (41-38..they'll be fighting and are a MUCH better home team)
@ Utah (36-42)
vs. Memphis (49-29; if they lock into the #2 seed between now and then, they may go ahead and rest their guys)

Or less likely, there's still Chicago who's in play with the head-to-head in Dallas, but the gimme win vs. Detroit at the end. Dallas would need to win 2 games (including vs. CHI) and for CHI to lose to both ATL and MIL.

Chicago (1.5 games ahead of Dallas):
vs. Atlanta (39-39)
@ Milwaukee (56-22)
@ Dallas (37-42)
vs. Detroit (16-62)

Lakers were gifted about 5 players at the deadline for scraps - still not clear outside of the Lakers tax how that happened.

Westbrook contract.

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Lakers have traded Russell Westbrook to Utah and reacquiring guard D’Angelo Russell from Minnesota in a three-team, eight-player deal. Minnesota is getting Mike Conley and Nickeil Alexander-Walker from Utah, along with three second-round picks, it was announced Thursday.

Los Angeles is also getting guard Malik Beasley and forward Jarred Vanderbilt from the Jazz, bolstering its core around LeBron James in a bid to jump-start its sputtering season.
The Lakers are sending Juan Toscano-Anderson, Damian Jones and their first-round pick in 2027 to Utah with Westbrook.

D'angelo is a free agent and Minny dumped him. They got back Conley, Walker, and three seconds.
Utah got another first round pick and moved Beasley and vanderbilt and get a decent Toscano-Anderson back.

Lakers open up cap for Kyrie if they let Russell walk. theres more to this but you get the idea.
Key is Davis has been on fire of late.

Adam Silver should punish Cuban and Dallas if they go ahead and shutdown Luka and Kyrie.
TPercy @ 4/3/2023 2:09 PM
honestly theres not much room anyway. I doubt we get the pick. I hope we don't get it in 2024 either because i hear that draft is awful.

Dallas vs. Chicago game is crucial. Honestly I think they have a better chance of passing Chicago in the standings.

Agreed but Dallas will shut down guys to avoid beating Chicago because it serves no benefit to them. Okc will need to lose all of their games this week.

If Dallas keeps their pick, I bet they offer it plus future picks for Anunoby.

It will be which team wants to lose more strongly.

LivingLegend @ 4/3/2023 5:04 PM
Another interesting situation is the Clips/Warriors and others ALL trying to avoid the 5th seed and the Suns

They can’t lose too much because they could slip to play in - fascinating.

They don’t really have future picks to offer and we could easily counter offer

Not a good look for the NBA when a team which did so well last year is being so open about tanking by not playing their 2 superstars.

As a Jets fan, I've seen us win meaningless games that hurt our draft position (See Zack Wilson), and the Knicks have done the same thing.

Amazing that we are probably going to be burned by the Mavs.

Alpha1971 @ 4/3/2023 9:41 PM
Let Dallas have the tenth position in the draft and fall back to 11 or 12 and we keep the pick. Murphy's law is real. You know if it was the Knicks in that position the pick would fall and slip to an other team. Time for the Knicks to catch a break. Then we draft an all star with that pick or trade it for a stud.

They aren’t always right but looking at the list of guys coming in it looks really bad. Like Andrew Wiggins draft bad. That being said, I’m sure they’ll be some hidden gems. Could always get Bronny so Lebron comes over

Can't miss players miss all the time. Players given D ratings on draft night blossom. All we can do is control what we can. Having future draft capital is still valuable if the pick doesn't convey. If the talent in upcoming drafts is indeed less appealing then it's good we have multiple picks to trade in a deal then fewer. But folks don't forget Dallas can lose their pick to us if they slip back in the lottery. Murphy's law can strike Dallas

I never understand the first round draft picks that convert to second round picks if they don't convey after a number of years.
I would think the opposite should happen. If we have to wait 5 or 6 years for the pick, the protection should lessen until it conveys. That's what I would push for anyway.
