Knicks · Dallas Pick Watch (page 17)

Dallas now tied with okc for 10 seed and 2 very winnable games to close the year. Need both wins and an okc loss.
rpknicks @ 4/5/2023 11:02 PM
and tied with chicago too and they play each other on friday. Mavs win that one and they can clinch our pick with one more win or chicago loss...what I don't know is if they beat chicago and then end up tied.

In any case between the chi and okc options, there is a pathway to the 11th or 12th pick.

LivingLegend @ 4/5/2023 11:06 PM
Kyrie was electric in 4th tonight while Luka tried hard on both ends to give game to Kings.

Im getting confused with the draft positioning, the more a team looses, the higher their pick will be.

What is the best case scenario for the knicks to get the 11th pick? What are the last 2 games of Dallas, Bulls and OKC should be for dallas to get the 11th pick?

Don't worry about it. Like Doris Day sang Que Sera Sera. If we get pick 11 I wonder how fast we trade it for a vet wing along with Obi or RJ and Fournier and future protected picks. But I'd look to trade for Tari Eason or Cam Johnson or the forward from New Orleans. If the Knicks are on the way up for real the team will get lucky somehow. If we get the Dallas pick consider that a good omen

Dallas will need to win their last 2 games and okc lose one. Or Dallas split and okc lose both. Okc holds the tiebreaker so even though they have the same record, Dallas would still miss the playoffs as is. The one-off scenario (and absolute nightmare for Dallas) involves Chicago. Chicago has the same record as Dallas. And they just so happen to play each other Friday. Dallas has to play to win due to their situation with okc fighting for that last playin spot. If they beat Chicago it’s likely even if they miss for the final playin spot they could either finish with a better record than Chicago which would result in the 11th pick while missing the playin, or if they have the same record it would result in a coin flip for the better positioning in the lottery. In this scenario, I believe whether we get the pick or not could come down to a coin flip, but I’ll admit I’m not positive about this scenario. So for us to get the pick, Dallas has to get that 10th play-in spot or Dallas has to finish with a better record than Chicago (or have the same result and lose the coin flip.) this is all assuming they don’t move up in the lottery and we miss out anyways. There’s a lot still to play out with this pick. To me it adds some bonus fun with the Knicks already set in their playoff positioning.

With Dallas one game out of the play-in, is it realistic that they would tank to keep their pick?
I would say, "no", except for the fact that Cube is clearly pissed at the Knicks for the Brunson signing. Is he vengeful enough to tank just to spite the Knicks?

Dallas has to be in the "gotta be in it to win it" mindset for the Playoffs. I don't think they purposefully tank. Only because they get embarrassed if anyone in 11-14 moves up to 1-4. They have to try to make the play-in.

I don't think OKC has to have that same mindset. But OKC does need their team to learn what playoff intensity is to take the next step.

I think Utah tanks against OKC in OKC's next game. They are lottery bound already. Don't see Ainge helping the Knicks and I don't really see what a win does for Utah at this point.

I think Memphis has the opportunity to play the role of spoiler, probably need to see the game as a potential statement game against a potential playoff matchup. Can't let a team into the playoffs with a win that you might face in the playoffs. That said, they only need to win the 1st half and can rest its players in the second half against OKC.

Chicago is old but needs to make a playoff run now. They don't own their pick anyway, so they need to do whatever is best for them in the playoffs. I bet they rest old players against Dallas.

Detroit pretty locked into last place. They can do whatever they want. End the season on a win. I bet they play.

One of Utah, Memphis, Chicago and Detroit would have to step up and play the role of spoiler to decide this bout between OKC and DAL. Its a volatile set of games.

My bet is that Dallas misses the play in. So, we go to the ping pong balls.

I don’t think they are tanking. That’s not how Cuban thinks

Last few games teams can rest their rotation players. But the bench players will be competing for future minutes and jobs. You never know what player will show out. These last few games are unpredictable.

Yes, if this scenario plays out where Dallas missing the play-in but still loses their pick due to beating Chicago, in addition to losing Brunson, this could go down as the worst year for any team in recent memory.

To me it’s still Dallas’ spot to lose. They have the easier schedule to finish the year. No reason they can’t go 2-0. They are better than both teams they play. Can’t say the same thing about okc. They close out against Memphis who is the better team.
