Ray Felton part deuxw

VDesai @ 2/2/2023 9:39 PM
Ray Felton was a pure PG - Keels is not. Other than being pudgy they arent similar at all

I still think Lu Dort is the model to follow here

I don’t have high hopes for keels. But he was a mid second round pick if you’re going to whiff that’s where you want to whiff

It's the GLeague and highlights but he makes better reads than RJ

Cruel...

Who knows, he could be a player if he takes his conditioning seriously in the off-season?
fishmike @ 2/22/2023 2:17 PM
he was 19 when drafted (so he's basically Kobe)

he was defensive beast in college... I think they just drafted "a guy" they like and thought would work hard. There's not much talent gap between available players in the 2nd round. Would be hilarious if he turned into a good NBA player for us. Literally nobody had him on the radar (even AFTER we drafted him).

He's so young, so its just a matter of time before...

He made the roster and that goes in his resume. Front office helped him out. That will help land with another team in the NBA or Europe. Front office helped Keels and the other G leaguer and that will help motivate players in Westchester. Maybe one day soon we will see a non drafted free agent, or an other Gleaguer from Westchester come out of nowhere to be like John Starks or Anthony Mason to help our squad. Look at the Heat they got like 10 undrafted players on the squad ? Good signal to the G League players that you can get considered for the big team

This is something not talked about much here. Knicks converted Sims from a 2-way to a guaranteed contract. What they are doing with Keels will eventually amount to that too. Deuce has become a valuable player here. Knicks are developing their guys in westchester and rewarding them. They aren’t using roster spots on the buy-out market. Instead they are signing their internal guys. This will all be referenced during the draft process when they are trying to persuade agents to view their draft and development situation as favorable and will lead to undrafted free agents signing with the Knicks for summer league and westchester. Knicks are building something great where they are winning, and outside of Brunson, Randle and Hart, it’s mostly our own drafted and developed players.

Knicks have been utilizing Westchester like this for a while and have been able to scoop up some good undrafted talent as a result, going back to at least Langston Galloway, Alonzo Trier (I'm sure I'm overlooking some other notables). We've seen the revolving door of partially guaranteed contracts right before the start of the season, giving these guys an extra payday outside of their G League contracts.

Kind of a down year for the JV team, but Knicks have been consistent on really treating this like a minor league affiliate and not just an after thought.

Keels has a great base (legs) under him - a legit 3 point stroke and excellent court vision.

I think any chance he has here in NY will come down to him getting into extreme shape, showing a willingness to defend physically and via those steps somehow gaining Thibs trust (no idea) if Thibs likes this kid or even knows who he is (lol).

Keels hit a 3!

Must have felt good to get on the board for the first time. I havent seen enough of Keels with the ball in his hands to venture a guess about his future role on the team. But Im glad he's taken the next step.

Nalod @ 3/2/2023 9:29 AM
Is he really out of shape or just have that Lowrey type pudge?
Jokvich, Doncic, and others are not “cut” but far from out of shape.
Second round pick as a teenager and gleague bound from day one.
with a young team its not a great roster to be drafted into. But things change and opportunities arise. There are 29 other teams to validate the potential of Obi, deuce and Keels in due time if they are not destined to be here. Same for Grimes, IQ, Obi, and RJ. Best case is these players create controversy due to their quality of play. Much of this has been discussed in great detail.
Ebbs and flows. Young players are Inconsistent.

Keels got released? I read Knicks didn’t pick him up for another 10 days. It means he’s a free agent. Guess the team has no plans for him if I understand the position.

Not that I didnt believe he could make it. Just didnt see what the FO saw in the first place, for Keels to get drafted where he was. Usually I have some inkling.

Drew a blank for me.

He was only a second round pick. Was okay as a freshman at Duke. Was a projected first rounder for most of the college season. He was supposed to have good defensive upside.

GustavBahler @ 3/13/2023 10:17 AM
So Keels is back?

He was with the Westchester team all along. QUestion is what happend with Moses Brown?
We signed him, paid him, then cut him. He sticking or find a better offer and we not holding him?
