Knicks · Alex Caruso (page 1)

He is as hard nosed and pesky as they come as a defender. He can guard 4 positions. You see the Bulls generally put him on a guy as big as Julius Randle down the stretch of games. Offensively he's not much, but he can knock down a 3 at 37-40% clip. He is a piece that can make some sense. They speculate a young player+ first rounder which I think is too much, but would the Bulls have a look at Reddish + 2nd rounders?
Caruso would be great. Like a bigger better version of Deuce. I wonder if there’s a trade of rose plus a pick for Caruso and additional salary that makes sense.

Yes, bigger Deuce with more confidence in his shot. Can handle the ball and distribute too. Would easily slot in to the Deuce/Obi slot. You an play small with him because he's shown the ability to guard some 4s (like Randle).

Unless the Knicks offense starts passing the ball around to the open man on a consistent basis...& I'm talking about Brunson, Randle, and RJ, a complimentary player like Caruso will have a limited impact, though I'd be happy to have him in our rotation.
Folks on this forum appear to be missing the fact that our offensive "strategy," especially with our 1st unit, is to give 1 of 3 people the ball (& sometimes IQ)and let them operate 1/1 while everyone else stands around. Reminds me of the worst of Melo-ball.
Crowder, Caruso...Unless we change our offensive philosophy, guys like these will have limited use, IMO.

Isn’t that the point of getting guys like Caruso and Crowder ? Knicks basically have 4 guys who playmake and score, so you want to surround those guys with connecting pieces who impact the game without the ball. Grimes is the gold standard and it’s working, so I would think Caruso or crowder would work for the same reasons.
Our defense would be one of the best in the league if we can get him.

They can't get Grimes enough touches, and he tries to move w/o the ball & position himself for open 3s...They look away from him too many times. 15 assists for 40 baskets made the last 3 games. Guys stand around while our "big 3" go 1/1.
I've watched many more games this year, and our lack of team offense is glaring. Guys take too much time dribbling, and kicking the ball out seems to be an afterthought. I find it painful to watch at times. Even IQ seems to be buying into the 1/1 ball concept.
This kind of ball won't work against better teams, IMO.
We have a tough group of guys, but our offense devolves into "give me the ball and stand back" hero ball.
I'll also say that guys like Grimes, McBride, and Obi pass up shots at times, perhaps deferring to our big 3. Not a prescription for winning down the road.

I won't disagree with anything you are saying.
And yet, over the past 6 weeks - more than half of the games played this season - the Knicks have a very high Offensive Rating https://www.nba.com/stats/teams/advanced...
Like 4th best in the league.
It's confounding. They pummel you and get offensive rebounds so maybe that's why the numbers are inflated? IDK
But he is a glue guy.
We start him?
Off the bench?
COntract status?
Where does Bulls use him?
Post reports we seeking a 2nd round pick for Reddish. Mavs are interested and we asking for Bullock. Just what I read, not what I think.
Not sure it suits us to help Mavs be better, but if not Reddish they could get someone else.
If we make a promise to Cam, maybe he steps under his foot in practice and Luka misses 30 games? Send some bitcoin his way off shore?
.....once a knick!

Grimes gets as many touches/ shots as he could get with almost any team in the nba. He’s a second year player who isn’t really a creator yet. Knicks aren’t limiting him in any way in my opinion.

Weirdly the lack of assist means less turnovers. And the offensive rebounding means extra possessions. It mitigates the lack of ball movement. Plus Brunson being a very high percentage shooter for a player who self creates so much inside and outside makes a big difference. Most shot creating guards who take a lot of threes still make under 45% from the field overall.

I did see that we were ranked #5 in the league the other day, & it surprised me.
Don't get me wrong, this team is gritty, but Brunson, Randle, and RJ are going to be dead by the end of the season, & we will suffer if someone like Grimes only takes 5 shots in an overtime game.
A pet peeve...watching folks give up the ball to Randle to slowly bring it up the court after a defensive rebound. Why should he be ball handling like a PG.
Are there stats on how soon we get a shot off...or how many people handle the ball before we shoot? Lots of dribbling by us, not enough passing.
