It’s a name that has been thrown around a lot. He’s a guy who can give some wing scoring off the bench but also provides insurance on a Obi trade as he can play some 4. He’s a RFA in 2024 so somewhat lined up with the rumored/ assumed 2024 free agent period where the Knicks may want flexibility.

he kinda sucks and Thibs is NOT gonna like his defense

I think he's good in certain matchups. He's slow laterally, but is physical.
BigDaddyG@ 1/31/2023 3:50 PM
Saddiq looks to be about mid defensively. Of course the eyes might tell a different story. But look at our boy Grimes!

Nice player, but too many question marks about trading for him
Is he really an upgrade over Grimes in the starting lineup? Is he too good to be content with a bench role? What has happened to his eFG? How many sub-500 eFG players can we afford to have? If Randle regresses and RJ does not progress, the answer is - not many.

Meh.

Holy cow grimes is good. and it matches what we all see too. Yeah I'm not feeling Bey. He was supposed to be good defensively but ive seen otherwise and heard otherwise. Plus his shooting has taken a dip.

Knicks interested in using Saddiq Bey talks as foil to OG negotiations

We’re all playing tic tac toe, while Martin and the front office are playing connect 4!
Knixkik@ 1/31/2023 6:32 PM
I honestly think Bey could be good here. He’s misfit as a high usage player on a bad team. In a lesser role he can be a more efficient shooter/ scorer and a better engaged defender. Will cost a first round pick though.

Same. This is the type of guy who can really develop in a place where winning is prioritized. He’s young and definitely has potential. More proven than a guy like Cam. Feels like he was good as a rookie and lost traction in a bad environment.

Big question is who does he bump in the rotation. If he's not going to get court time, it doesn't make sense to lose a pick. The fact that Reddish and Fournier have been glued to the bench doesn't bode well for Saddiq.

I would prefer Bey to OG. Comes cheaper, fills a scoring role off the bench at the 3. Shoots 34% from 3. Average defense and still young enough to learn. Only 23 years old. He is probably good enough to start at the 3 if all the shufflers out there want to move Grimes to the bench and RJ back to the 2.

It’ll always be wild to me when anyone suggests moving Grimes to bench in favor of moving RJ to SG spot.
IMHO Grimes is just a lock at that position for the whole organization.
FO wanted to move RJ instead of Grimes, that’s our biggest hint for me

Good points. Grime has shown a lot of awareness cutting to the basket when his shot isn't falling and making good moves to get the basket. RJ has never really shown that.

I'm not as high on Grimes. I think he is a good defender but not lockdown. He seems panicky in the clutch. and offensively he can drive as well as anyone and hit the three for the first 45 minutes or so of a game. I see a poor man's version of prime Klay. Nothing about him screams to me untouchable though. However nothing about anyone on this team (except maybe Brunson...but not yet) screams untradeable to me.

I’d like Josh Hart in here — plays the right way does a little of everything — rumors he’s available.

Another solid player (but a FA at the end of the year)
I would seriously build this way-low cost bench players to solidify the bench-instead of trying to shoe horn high cost players into the rotation. If you can get Bey/Hart and somehow shoehorn a halfway decent backup center (preferably one that can swing between the 4 and 5), I'm in.
