That is true but don't sleep on the Knicks making a run @ the 3rd/4th seed 76ers/Cavaliers either.

Both teams have extremely difficult schedules moving forward.

Philadelphia's final 26 games (3rd seed).
Vs. Cavaliers.
Vs. Grizzlies.
Vs. Celtics.

The more I think about it? The more I realize (as long as NY continues it's winning ways) it might actually become the 76ers who we pass in the standings due to their insane schedule (coming up).

As long as NY can not only continue winning but also get red hot? It's going to become really fun for us as a fan base (while) keeping an extra eye on both Philly/Cleveland for those 3/4 seeds (moving forward).

NYKMentality @ 2/15/2023 10:20 PM
Well folks.

My goal when creating this thread 9 games ago (6-3) was the 3rd/4th seeds. I just had this crazy feeling despite a grueling schedule that we were on the verge of getting red hot.

And I'm still frustrated by those 2 overtime loses vs. LAL/LAC along with our blown lead against Brooklyn and only because we could've (literally) gone 9-0 and no worse than 8-1; that's how good we're playing right now.

We've actually got the 9th best NBA Record and only 2.0 games back of Brooklyn from having the 7th best Record (within the entire league.

I've still got my eyes set on both Philly/Cleveland for the 3rd/4th seeds.

Nalod @ 2/16/2023 9:17 AM
Clev looks solid at the 4. I was kind of hoping for an opening matchup with nets. As 4-5 seeds would be fun to build a rivalry in that fashion. Nets up until this week has beaten us 3 years straight.
This nets roster is far more likable. Im developing empathy for Ben Simmons and would be happy for him if he can climb back. Why?
That will take hard work. He has to put it in. If not, he’ll be trade fodder like John wall, sitting and then be irrelevant. To come back will mean he had to fight for it. That I can root for. That he has taken things for granted until now is on him.
The moment is “what you gonna do about it”? If he is injury riddled then he’ll have to figure out what to do with the rest of his life besides clothes shopping. Harden, KD, and Kyrie have all left the city.
IM glad Vaughn got another chance too.
Ultimately conf finals vs. Boston. All teams ahead of us are star driven and injuries usually are big part of a teams run. We have some depth we could use and while I don’t want anyone hurt, how fun would it be to have EF come in and have a game vs. Boston in Boston?

JHart defense on Brown could matter big time! Same vs Harden.

I'm with you on that.

One seed @ a time and if we're able to hawk down Brooklyn ASAP; we'll then have enough time to shift our focus towards Cleveland for their 4th seed.

1st 5 Games (Seeds 5-6)

Nets @ 34-24 (5th):
@ Chicago
@ Atlanta
vs Bucks
@ New York
@ Boston

New York @ 33-27 (6th):
@ Washington
vs Pelicans
vs Celtics
vs Nets
@ Miami

If we can start off our final 22 games @ 4-1?

We'll have a great chance of passing Brooklyn for that very important 5 seed (setting up a pots 4 vs. 5 matchup).

60 Wins still in reach?

Phil.

It's been 11 days since you've last posted within this thread.

Just checking up on you.

The Knicks have now gone 3-0 since you asked if 60 wins were still in reach (immediately after Philadelphia's loss).

To answer your question Philly, no; 60 wins isn't in reach.

However;

50 Wins is still in reach.

🎯 Record of 17-5 gets it done.

And the last time our Fan Base has ever witnessed 50+ wins outside of only 2012-2013 of 10 years ago dates back to1999-2000 of 23 years ago.

Let's just say it doesn't happen often.

17-5 is now your new target 🎯 goal Philc1. I hope you hit it too.

Because these Knicks currently feature an NBA Top-10 Record (9th best overall).

9th overall but yet {literally} only -3.5 games back of the NBA's 6th best Record (Memphis Grizzlies @ 35-22) and still only -4.5 from an NBA Top-5 Record (Cleveland Cavaliers @ 38-23).

Eastern Conference 3 Seed (still alive).

Philadelphia 76ers (starting tonight) will start to fall (within the Standings).

•76ers
28th easiest SOS
(1st 57 games)

•76ers
#1 most difficult SOS
(Final 25 games)

(76ers next 6 Games)
vs MEM (7:30)
vs BOS
vs MIA
@ MIA
@ DAL
@ MIL

NY's only 6.5 back of Philadelphia and I wonder how small the difference would be (record wise) if the roles were reversed and NY had the 28th easiest SOS while Philly had the 11th most difficult SOS (1st half). I bet the gap would've been less than 2-3 games.

C'mon...

It's one thing to imagine the Knicks going 17-5 and the Sixers going 11-14.

It's another to imagine the Cavs going 11-10 too.

I don't think you realize the scale of the probability you're playing with here.

It's not quite 60 wins, but it's not that far off.

NYKMentality @ 2/23/2023 7:25 PM
We'll see how it goes man.

Might not have enough time to catch Philadelphia due to -6.5 games back but with Cleveland?

We're only 4.5 back of Cleveland for the 4th seed.

We've got 1 game against them.

Hypothetically speaking we're -3.5 back of Cleveland (including the W over them).

From there on out?

Cleveland loses 2 in a row?
Knicks win 2 in a row?

And we're literally 1.0 back with potentially 10+ games remaining aka potential dog fight.

You're looking at it from a micro view, macro view is always better.

Like I say, Cleveland is a .628 team over 3/4's of a season. Even if they went 11-10, that means 17-5 for the Knicks, regardless of the common game. Give to the Knicks and we're still talking 11-9 and 16-5.

Those are looong odds. Verrrrrry long on the Knicks side and pretty long on the Cavs side.

I'm not telling anything other than the odds here.

NYKMentality @ 2/23/2023 8:04 PM
I'll be rooting for both Boston and Milwaukee moving forward (during a lot of games).

Because these two teams (outside of the times we play Boston 2x) can end up helping the Knicks playoff seedings (a lot).

Milwaukee:

Philly has to play both Milwaukee/Boston 4x.

Brooklyn has to play both Milwaukee/Boston 3x.

Cleveland has to play Boston 2x.

To make it even more intriguing...

76ers/Cavs/Nets all play each other multiple times.

(it's about to get crazy in the East).

I promise you (especially if the Knicks stay winning and get real hot).

Entering this evening, the Knicks have .2 chance to finish 3rd (same chance as finishing 11), a 2.1 chance to finish 4th and a 20.1 chance to finish 5.

Their odds are greater to finish 7 or 8 than 3, 4 or 5.

And this is based on simulations, where every team's schedule is taken into account (10k times) and conference knock-offs are baked in.

Just math, not bias.

Well I'm sure those same simulators probably had the Knicks @ 35 wins max (shows how much they know).

But more importantly I bet that simulator also had 76ers winning vs. Memphis @ home in Philly tonight too. Because I know Vegas did. Because Vegas had Philadelphia as nice size favorites by -3.5 Points tonight.

But now look.

Philadelphia is getting destroyed by 16 (48-34) and only 2nd Q (might lose by 25-30+).

If you think the simulations had the sixers beating memphis all 10k times, you don't understand what simulations are. I'm sure at least 40% of the 10k simulations had the Grizzlies winning.

Again, your reflexively seem to you think there is human bias in the model. There is not.

Right now it's based on 60 games played. It's based on what NBA teams have done for 3/4s of the season, not what anyone thinks.

All I know is how those 4th seed Cavaliers just lost to Denver (@ home in Cleveland) despite Cleveland being the -2.5 Favorites.

1st game out of the All-Star break and Cleveland's already 0-1 (and Donovan Mitchell was the opposite of Jalen Brunson type clutch during the 4th Q).

Hey. Don't look now but if NY wins tomorrow and Cleveland loses to ATL on a back to back?

We'll no longer trail Cleveland by -4.5 games but instead only -3.0 back of that 4th seed (with a chance to make it only -2.5 come Saturday vs. Pelicans).

For some reasons these simulators don't see, what I see. Because I see a window opening up for Knicks to climb the standings (3-4-5 are all 3 still very alive).
