This is quite absurd that Brunson missed the team. I wasn't too thrilled when we signed him because I saw a lot of what he couldn't do and didn't give enough credit for what he could in fact do. He is cereberal, he plays right, he has layers to offensive levels. The team plays better with him than without him in a way the numbers don't properly capture... Anyway, I compared his age 26 season to the guy he reminds me of: Tony Parker

TP made the All-Star game that season... Brunson was robbed!
I'm with you. Outside of YouTube Highlights with Dallas, I had no idea who Jalen Brunson was as a basketball player. And I doubted him as a PG due to playing 2nd fiddle to Luka Doncic.
But man oh man was I wrong.
This kid has already became my favorite Knicks PG of All-Time (dating back to the 1990's) and that's because of his electricity; he's absolutely, electric. And just so much fun to watch.
Imo he's an All-Star PG regardless if he didn't get selected
My only question is this.
Kyrie Irving.
Jrue Holiday.
Tyrese Haliburton.
Which one of these PG's are we removing in order to make room for Jalen Brunson? In other words, which PG does Jalen Brunson actually have better (overall) statistics than?
Nonetheless; I can't remember an NYK PG/Big-Man ALL-STAR duo such as Jalen Brunson/Julius Randle since dating back to Mark Jackson/Patrick Ewing (that's been as fun as this).
It was tough. He needed to leapfrog a few guys who were also good. Didn't help that Jaylin Brown is also listed as a guard. The important is that we know what's up. Unless he missed out on bonuses. That would suck.

the bold was totally me.
As for being an all star we all know he's in the mix, but I dont have a big issue with him not making it. I think Randle making it hurts him (and Randle def deserved it) and you have to make a case for who Brunson gets it over. Hali leads the NBA in assists and has similar #s to Brunson. Holiday is defensive stopper and has great numbers. Ja/Dame/SGA are not getting beat out by Brunson

Totally.
Hopefully there are some injury replacements.
Gun to head, NBA has to pick someone else (since NY is already represented) who is equally as qualified and on a completely different team just to get the eyeballs from that city. Simple as that. It's a business.
It’s tough because the Knicks have what we can now safely call as 2 B-level stars. 2 guys who can be allstars on any given year going forward, but maybe not enough to lead a team that can produce 2 allstars. So maybe next year it will be Brunson. I’m sure he will be an allstar in his career. But Knicks will need to be better during the regular season to get both in the same year. This is somewhat comparable to the year Houston and sprewell were both allstars. That’s sort of the aim.
Knixkik wrote:But Knicks will need to be better during the regular season to get both in the same year.
That's a really good point.
Because whenever I think of All-Star duo's from the same team I immediately think of Jordan/Pippen and then Kobe/Shaq followed by Dwayne Wade/LeBron James.
Etc.
But then again when I think of those Chicago/Lakers/Miami teams I instantly think of; #1 Seed Powerhouses.
But unfortunately as an NBA Franchise; we're just not there just yet.
The solution is, of course, to make the All Star roster count bigger. Clyde and everyone else been saying it for years and no clue why NBA has not done it.

Yeah but then it becomes nothing more than just another participation award, which could water down the purpose of All-Star honors.

Agree. And interesting comparison.
However, guess the comparison that mattered was with Haliburton?
Which is very close.
JB 22.8ppg vs TH 20.3ppg
JB 6.2 ast vs TH 10.3 ast
JB 39%/3pt vs TH 39%/3pt
JB 1 stl vs TH 1.8 stl
Knicks better record.
Maybe its the fact TH is better all around or maybe we are not allowed 2 All Stars?

It gets watered down for 2-4 more spots for each conference? Not for me.
I don't even know how many total all stars are on each team now and I'd guess not a majority of fans do or care either.

Part of the value is how exclusive the group is though. The league gets deeper and the snubs get more talked about. Plus with injury the number increases by 2-3 each year. These conversations about Brunson are what make it so good, despite the frustration of Brunson not making it.
Not sure I would put Brunson over others that were also left off:

Trae Young to me should be on skills alone picked over Brunson- hate Harden, but he has had a great season - and been healthy which is not something I expected.
With the way the league is, it's hard to be a little guy that plays PG and get to the All Star game.
Hopefully he gets picked for one of the All NBA teams at the end of the year.
Knicks sitting at 28-25 today. SA in 2009 was 35-16 going into the All Star break.
https://www.basketball-reference.com/tea...I agree with you, Brunson is having an all star season, but I get it. Others have already mentioned, but it was always going to be tough to say NY should get 2 all stars. Really see it as more Brunson vs. Randle than Brunson vs. Haliburton.
There's a camp that says every team should get an all star rep each season. I like that in theory, even if it means someone's getting screwed due to being on a great team. But at least you don't have to sit there and watch half the Warriors' rotation playing in the All Star game. While we're at it, bring us back to having players wear their own team's jersey! The AS jerseys seem to fluctuate between ugly and boring.
Agree 110% Brunson should have made the All-Star team but the only reasons he did not make it are because of Randle being his teammate and the team mediocre record. You simply cannot reward a .500 team with two All-Stars and they already selected Haliburton and Jrue at guard.
He'll definitely make it next season imo and I'd put money on it!
Brunson has nothing to be ashamed about. He's the best PG we've had since Clyde! He should use this as motivation, rest up, get healthy, chill with his beautiful fiancé and cute pup and get ready to finish the seasons strong!

Do you remember which years these were?
I can't for the life of me recall.

Didn't remember when it started, but remembered Spree and Houston in their NY jerseys. Apparently 97 - 02.

He’s not an All Star.
We all wanted him there, but we are mediocre and you only get one All Star.
He’s right there, but Garland and Harden are both having better seasons on better teams and they didn’t make it. Only guy who you might make a case for is one of the better defenders in the league and is averaging more rbs and assists, in Holiday.
Hopefully there is an alternate spot, but likely goes to harden.
I know its important to Brunson, would be to me. But what he has done for the team is worth so much more to me than an award. We wouldnt be anywhere near the playoffs without him.
SAS spurs won chips with TP, lost in conf finals to Lakers year before, and finished in first place that year mentioned.
Knicks are not that kind of relevant.
Injuries might still happen and he might go.
