Knicks · Hawks fire Nate McMillan (page 1)

ironic, maybe. Makes you wonder about their chemistry- because Nate has been a good coach for a long time.

Beginning of the season, not sure I would have seen this coming.

"Players league."

Not surprising. They shelled out a lot of money over the past two offseasons, and they barely look like a playoff team. Either the GM or the coach needed to be fired, and in those situations, it is usually the coach that goes first. If the interim coach can’t get them winning, then they clean house in the off-season.

They just described Thibs

LivingLegend @ 2/21/2023 7:31 PM
Would not rule out a Quinn Snyder hire and Hawks go on a run into top 6.

Scapegoat

GM is the one that should have gotten fired for handing out that HORRIBLE contract to Young and resigning Collins.

Should have traded or let Collins walk.

They fired Schenk a.few months ago. What a shitty organization. With no one at the All Star game you think they could have done this an hour after the Knicks embarrassed them at home heading into the break. Instead everyone got a shitty weekend wondering about what will happen. Just seems like a very dysfunctional franchise. Also, for like the 3Rd year in a row they weren't able to come to a shit or get off the pot decision with John Collins. I don't miss those days of organizational incompetence.

that's what I was thinking... Didn't they promote Nate because the players were bitching and moaning, Nare gets interim title, then they have a good season including knocking us out of the playoffs? So he was good enough to save the day then, but now?

I think there's something wrong with their roster in terms of their day-to-day approach... and all you can do in that situation is fire the coach, because it is too hard to trade everyone

Probably fired him because he was not playing the "yoot".
Commented on other thread, success is usually more about how the players are playing and not the coach. Except if a coach loses his team. Think Nate is a good coach but lost the support of his team. Mainly Trae.

Nalod @ 2/22/2023 8:06 AM
Whom to blame? LOL. This is on the owner and his sons who traded for Murray over sChlenks recommendation. The two most important players are Trae and Murray both have personalities and characteristics not conducive to strong leadership. They are talented yes.
Collins im sure has some place in this.
This is your “Big three”.
Somewhere Capella is not the same player he as afew years back either.

I feel like firing the coach is one thing but waiting a week to fire him just seems incompetent.

they dont play at all as a team. Murry/Trae just go "your turn, my turn" except they arent CP3/Harden. They seem to have good players like Hunter and Collins that really run hot/cold. They have been trying to move Collins for a year.

I think we are also seeing a complecent Trae. I dont see a better player. He's the same guy and folks have figured him out a bit. His worst EFG% since his rookie year and opposing player go right at him every chance.

team needs an injection of maturity and professionalism

im kind of happy for Nate. he didn't deserve that shit show

In honestly say I don't want any of their players. Maybe some recent young ones. Don't know...
TPercy @ 2/23/2023 6:48 PM
"His style might fit an older roster" tells me all I need to know about the mentality of that Hawks lockerroom.
Alpha1971 @ 2/24/2023 2:39 AM
That's a team that just two years ago everyone said the Knicks had to imitate. Things change fast in the NBA. Knicks look good now and we should appreciate our team and it's players. Team has a good culture, Even out resident under achiever RJ Barrett, because he shoots too much when he is shooting poorly, and doesn't pass to open players, is atleast a good teammate and is just low IQ but working at it. I trust our new culture to continue to get hardworking players who can take tough coaching.

I agree we should send them Evan, Rose, Obi for John Collins. Collins can be the back up 4 and 5. So they can have expiring deals with professional vets and a young player who has been toughened up by Thibs we get Collins to be a back up to Mitch and Julius. Just kidding Collins makes too much but let's try to get then on the phone for one of their young players like Hunter for such a deal.
