I don’t see how you can go any higher than win a playoff series. Something we haven’t done in a zillion years. If we get to the 2nd round, expectations will naturally increase on its own. But regardless of our teams performance in the regular season, it’s still one playoff win at a time. That’s the approach I’m sure for any playoff team.
20 games to go. If we play Clev lets see what happens. We win, cool. If we lose 4-1, not gonna be happy but how did it happen and did injuries play a role?
Its not like we actually make decisions so not sure I get were some are coming from.
Teams with higher seeds have higher expectations. This is easy.
Team can click for the playoffs and defeat a higher seed. Some times you lose, sometimes your just beaten.
That matters.
2 years ago ATL beat us with depth. We had little beyond Randle.
THis year we are far deeper.

I have no idea if Thibs is saving Rose for a playoff run, or he really believes that he's done. If its the former, a few games in the G-League might help him get his legs back, without affecting the playoff chase. Vets do that from time to time.
Can this knicks team continue to improve as the season comes to a close? I just started thinking of the 2004 Pistons, can this knicks team replicate that Pistons feat? It will be mind blowing if the knicks can somehow win the championship, a team universally believed as a team without a superstar.
I saw a youtube show with Macari and Fred Katz, both said that the outlook of the knick pre-trade deadline and now have changed. Whatever happens in the playoffs even if they stumbles both think that this team is just 1(one) superstar away from being real contenders... im starting to think the same way!
If they can keep the young core intact, what star will a trade package of RJ, Obi, Fournier plus 3-4 1st round picks can the knicks get? Im really hoping they can get a young superstar SF/SG to insert to a starting 5 of Mitch, Randle, _____, Grimes and Jalen.

Can the knicks pry away Luka?(im watching the Luka-kyrie pairing, feels like a rush decision to get Kyrie similar to how they got Poorzingis!) can they get Booker if the suns' Durant gamble falls short? Can Jalen Brown be made available if the Celtics fall short? Is Brandon Ingram an option?

I dont think anyone believes either is going to happen. But I agree with the sentiment that Brunson playing or sitting, plays a big part in that effect.

This team is starting to remind me of our last team that got to the Finals in 1999. That was a talented team that struggled throughout the regular season but gelled at exactly the right time. Randle is a younger, healthier LJ, Mitch is a bigger Camby, we have wing players so did that team. Brunson is way better than Childs or Ward. Roster has really gelled well last 2-3 months. Even Thibs was on the coaching staff both times.
Reg season success is nice, but the playoffs are a totally different ball game.
The Knicks may be going full-throttle now and winning games, but will they have the capacity to step it up even more in the playoffs, where intensity, focus and quality of opponents go up to a completely different level? Two years ago they did not, got exposed by Trey and Clint as reg season pretenders. Maybe this time they have made adjustments and are approaching things differently. Is Brunson going to be the difference maker? Will a healthy Mitch be a factor? Lots of questions to be answered.

Agree with this 100%. One good thing for the Knicks, despite the East being the stronger conference this year, there are 4 Finals MVPs out West (Curry LeBron Kawhi KD) vs. one in the East (Giannis). A top 10 defense and offense are the marks of a champion squad and Knicks are surprisingly up there since Dec. 4. I still think just making the playoffs and playing competitively are a big step in the right direction.

Then there is Philly with a healthy Embiid and Harden. They are formitable and we if we don’t hold the 5 we get them in the playoffs 1st round. They should be worried about a first round match with us.

If Brunson returns to form for the playoffs, I think this team is dangerous. It is very deep, and can keep throwing fresh bodies at you with little drop off, and constant different looks. I am not saying they go all the way, a bit premature for that, but I'm really hoping they make some noise.

For me that answer is yes, and it is obviously dependent on Brunson playing with health. The Knicks regular season play style is right there with playoff intensity. They pound you, rebound you, defend you until you drop, limit turnovers.
Knicks style is exactly made for playoffs.

We have more talent than 2 years ago. Elfrid freaking Payton was the full time pg that year now we have brunson

what makes you think that the Knicks are talented enough to have an on/off swtich?
no, I want them firing on all cylinders, show well, and then that elusive big star is enticed by the possibility of coming to NY. That is what is possible if the team gives 100 percent for every single game until their season is over
