Knicks · THe Mitch Thing…. (page 1)

I think it was the third quarter, Mitch gets the ball in the high elbow on the left side, Puts the ball on the floor, three dribbles thru defense who looks startled.
I was startled.
FInish with dunk.
I watch a lot of Knick ball and I don’t think I have ever seen him dribble more than twice!
It looked instinctive, not like “What Have I gotten myself into”………

If anyone can find the clip please post.

Yes! When I saw that I thought the exact same thing. He's in the best shape of his life and it shows. What a weapon that would be!

The quick read was the difference. Nobody collapsed on him.

It's gonna come glacially slowly but I do think Mitch has some offense in him.

Gonna be wild when he starts to take some 3's couple years from now

He won’t be a “BroPez” but that dude on Milwaukee is a big reason for their success!
Mitch gets a mid range shot and get to 70% from the line we will be in good shape.
We need that.

This is the next evolution of this team. Allowing the offenses of guys like Mitch and Grimes to blossom while not taking anything away from Brunson, Randle, and RJ. Mitch has so much potential but both he and team seem content with him staying in the "putback/rim running" role on offense. I would love to see Mitch develop a drop step and jump hook shot.

You think he goes Brook Lopez in his old age?

Just started hitting 3s when he turned 28.

As along as his mind can't make his hands and arms shoot free throws better than that, it ain't happening.

it's like Barkley's golf swing. There is something being lost between the head and the body.

Mitch played aggressive again tonight. Pretty much the only starter that played up to his standard.

You know what, that was my thinking too. Drop step, hook shot maybe a Kurt Thomas baseline jumper. However Gianni's has showed us that big men can be completely different with the drive to the hoop. What does Mitch need to do on our offense? Setting picks, offensive rebounds that's all fine and dandy. The real contribution to help our offense ( the way it's structured with the ISO) is to draw the bigs away from the paint. It doesn't have to be to the 3 point line. Already we are seeing the paint defenders collapsing on Randle and the dump-offs to Mitch. If Mitch is able to catch it 3-4 more feet farther out from the backet and do one dribble euro step= the passes would be a lot easier to make and Mitch should increase his scoring by like 6-10 points per game. He already is an incredible finisher around the hoop. That's something that could be easier to build upon.

GustavBahler @ 3/8/2023 8:11 AM
Mitch does that once, maybe twice a season. We get excited, then forget. Ive given up on Mitch being able to take it to the rim, with any kind of frequency. But not to develop the same little floater iHart has in the paint.

It took around 4-5 games for Hartenstein to start hitting those floaters. Thats why Mitch hasnt really added anything to his offensive toolbox. He doesnt stick with it, iHart did.

Not usually one to support roll players complaining about roles, but I'm with Mitchell here. I think the specific play was 5 into the third when he rolled to the hoop with a guard out of position and RJ just kept dribbling with the big on him. If they make that pass to Mitchell, actually his ability to pass out of it if the defense collapses is probably the biggest issue.
