He loves his kid.
If you don't like lebron, why read his tweets?

Starting a thread about a tweet that colors Lebron negative. He renting space in your head?
So we rooting for the kid to fail because his dad was all about bragging on his kid?
Lebron is one of the true hype stories that really did live up to the hype. Maybe this kid is all that. He is a top 25 player and his dad would bring mostly good to any school associated.

This.
Human nature unfortunately leans to focusing on the negative.
Lebron speaking as a father only upsets those who already had their mind made up about someone they do not know. It's what the twitter verse is built on.

Whats up Hofstra......Off topic, but watching Thibs post game interview, he said something that made me think of you. He asked a reporter, "are you the mins police" lmao.

But I think the hate for Lebron goes deeper than what he said. Some hate him for who he is, and I never understood that. I always thought he was a great guy, great father and the prototypical example of a modeled NBA citizen. Unlike Barkely who made it clear (in his prime) when he said, "I'm not your role model". I understand why he said it, but til this day I still disagree. All NBA players, Entertainers, Public Officials, Police Officers, etc..... Being a role model comes with the job!

Lebron is a role model and he carries himself that way. So personally I have no issues with a Dad showing love for his son (Lebron, Lavar, whoever). And flexing his political muscle as well. If you got it flaunt it.

Thats HIS approach to raise HIS son. I can't tell another grown man how to raise HIS son. Plus there's a million different ways to raise someone. Who said your way or my way(or anybodys way) is the best way?

Pressure bust pipes BUT it also creates diamonds.

I thought you would never ask Nalod. I have 2 loving boys. My oldest is the same age as Lebrons oldest. He's a senior in HS and just made the national team in track. We will be running at the nationals in NYC (I think the Armory) on March 11th. He also got several football scholarships. Plays DB. And he still can't beat me in basketball 1 on 1, but thats for another story lmao.

My youngest is a youtuber / gamer. 13 and already eye to eye with me (I'm 6ft on a good day). So I'm trying to get him to play ball soon. Great shooter but hates practice. I used to be on him hard and he just gave up lol. So there's no right answer to this thing called parenting.

I dont really see it as a parenting issue. Dont write checks that anyone else has to cash, except you. This IMO crosses the line into trash talk, when you bring in the NBA. No one questions LeBron's motives, at least I dont

I almost singlehandedly battled this board to trade for LeBron this season lol.

Lets not make blanket statements about even mild criticism.

Good stuff! Congrats. Both my kids had some really good achievements in sports and great life lessons that helped them achieve in other ways. My kids are 28 and 30, and doing very well in work, life, and in love married. They are healthy and happy.

About Lebron, the key phrase was the he could get Bronny in one call to the school the boy would would want. The talent is there. Lebron has earned his influence on and off the court.

For many Its like if you love jordan, you find ways to hate Lebron.
If you love IQ, one seems to tilt against RJ. Same for Grimes. Knick wise we tend to abscess over the short term.

Bronny James is a four star recruit… let’s not pretend LBJ is pumping up LiAngelo Ball

Also, what’s more important, him building a high school so the underprivileged can have a shot, or him pumping up his son, who could play ball for many collegiate programs—objectively?

I’m not an huge fan of LeBron’s personality but I don’t think he did anything that warranted a call out thread. I mean, what have any of you done to uplift the youth of your communities?

KnickDanger @ 3/8/2023 8:37 AM
LeBron doesn’t need my endorsement, but he’s obviously one of the greatest athletes we’ve seen in any sport. Unlike poser Ja, actually came from rough origins to be who he is and give back and make a difference. Salute.

As a diva, super friends ring chaser who flops and whines and dissed the Knicks I boo him with relish.

Fair assessment as I have seen. On court vs. off. Good take.
Smug arrogant personalities in their prime:

1. Jordan
2. Kobe

Personality came off as arrogant given the times:

3. Kareem (Nation of islam thing. Personality was withdrawn.)
4. Bill Russell.

White america did not embrace them. It was a different time and era.

5. Lebron for self empowerment. Maturity issues when younger.

31 rings right there. No overlap. All different eras. Time has been kinder to everyone but Lebron because he is still playing. All very different personalities on and off the court. All controversial in some fashion. Bill Russell was not, but that he was a uber successful black man in an era that white american did not embrace.

Lebron great crime? Arrogant? Was immature early on? He is not the same man he was 10,20,15 years ago. None of us are.

Agree about LBJ. Think we have so many other athletes to complain about. Many who have carried themselves poorly, taken success for granted and who have done some bad things.

The sir charles thing is a good example but one has to take it in context. He was getting in trouble off the court, I think some fights.

"We got too many black kids that think they can only be successful through athletics" - Charles Barkley shares why he did the infamous "I Am Not a Role Model"commercial with Nike
Charles Barkley got the inspiration for the commercial after speaking with numerous young kids from all walks of life While making an appearance on the All The Smoke podcast, Charles Barkley reflected on the famous "I Am Not A Role Model" commercial he did with Nike in 1991 and why that was one of the most important things he did during his career in the NBA.

At the time, Barkley was still playing for the Philadelphia 76ers and was solidifying himself as one of the most prominent NBA superstars of his time. Naturally, that led to him meeting people from all walks of life, which included little kids who looked up to him and wanted to be just like him.

Barkley remembers often going to schools to speak with kids and trying to see what they wanted to be when they grew up, and it's safe to say he was shocked when he understood the difference in the mindset between kids in predominantly black schools compared to those in predominantly white schools. In black schools, the majority of kids wanted to be professional athletes or entertainers, while in white schools, most kids wanted to be lawyers, engineers, and doctors, and only a handful of kids wanted to play professional sports.

"That is probably the most important thing I've done. That was a big deal for me, so you know, part of our job is we get to speak to kids a lot. I think players should at least once a week speak at a school because these young black kids look up to us. So what I was noticing was when I would go speak, I always talk to kids about education because one thing we need to value more, especially in the black community, is education. I think we get so enamored because most of the famous black people that know are rich because of sports or entertainment music. They don't realize that most people have to get a real job right, so my thing is when I was going to these schools, I said, well, how many of y'all want to play sports and I noticed at the black schools, pretty much every kid raised their hand, and I was like oh that's interesting. But when I go to a white school, I said well, how many of y'all want to play sports only about 10 percent raised their hand. We got too many black kids that think they can only be successful through athletics and entertainment; they don't think they can be doctors and lawyers and engineers and s**t like that."

Charles, like many people start off as one thing and evolve over time. Barkley the young brash Philly player was outspoken and over many years has grown. somtimes we start off not liking a player but over 20 years, or in this case 40 as person does change.

Lebron has been at this for 20 years. He was "King James" nationally in high school. That has to bring out a brashness. Fame and fortune can be intoxicating. I think Lebron might have some moments he wishes he could redue. Don't we all.
His requests for players and disrupting franchises is arrogant, but those franchises were willing partners. Riley had a bad look when Lebron went back to Clev but fact is he seduced the Fab Four and benefited and then he got a dose of his own medicine. They all survived Ok.

Bill Russell
Mohammad Ali
Jim Brown

And so many more, have paved the way for Barkley and others.

I watched the Bill Russell documentary on Netflix and wow. I learned so much about him and was reminded of the powerful role models who lived during a struggling time of racism, bigotry, stereotypes, name calling, police brutality. All this while trying to win a championship. I love how his perspective about the game changed. And how he marched to his own beat. I can see why Mr. 11 championship Bill Russell was misunderstood. He was so far ahead of the game mentally in almost everything. Even down to his last few weeks on earth, when he auctioned off all his championship rings and memorabilia. What a great guy, sorry to digress.

Love Barkley too. Just wanted to show respect to those that allowed Barkley (Stephen a smith, etc…) to speak their mind today.

I mentioned Kareem and Russell earlier. Barkley in his era had a brashness and did not face the social issues as those 20 years earlier. The times did not call for him to be more. He was funny and build this brand on his game, then his being outspoken.

"Im not a role model" was a bold step for Nike to make and it sparked debate. Nike did that from time to time and has been effective straddling the line of social issues and selling sneakers.
Jordan was a machine but he was mum on social issues as he protected his immage and marketing prowess.
