But Quickley and Grimes were really struggling and need to figure this out because what they did at the end of the season does not work come playoff time.

Not sure dude. Quick did not play well at all. Randle needs to wake up too. He had a solid first half but his second half turnovers were concerning. RJ had some decent moments but that last TO was the last straw for Thibs. He did not play well at all either.
Again…. It’s both a good and bad sign. We were able to survive with those guys playing that bad AND DM playing very well but we won’t survive if they continue playing that bad. We should be able to win the series if they clean up though.
Barrett 2/12, Quickley 0/5, Grimes 1/4. There is no where to go but up offensively. Even Jules and Brunson werent on top form, but they did make the plays when needed.
I was impressed with Randle. He didnt force the game. He played within the game his first one back and it was a big lift.
All I can say is Josh Hart is the most Knicks player of all time. For anyone that grew up watching the Knicks in the 90s, he is that identity in one player. Never stop hustling, dont take anyone's shit, dont be afraid of anything and give it everything you have, every time.
Mitchell is by far the best player on the floor of either team.
But the Knicks are the better team.
Shout out to Obi to finally having an impact in small minutes!
Thibs going to need to dust off some D strategies for dealing a player like Mitchell/Kobe/MJ.

Randle was good comparing to an alternative outcome where he was hobbled and rusty. He made his usual 1st quarter major impact and then Brunson (and Hart) were left to carry the team the rest of the way. Even in the surprise season 2 years ago, Randle was more of a first half player and in the second half it was typically Rose and Burks mostly, with a hint of Barrett and big shots from Quickley. These days it’s mainly Brunson, but we can never expect Randle to take over in the 4th consistently.
Good enough. The yoot did not score well but somebody defended Garland well and shut his ass down the second half.
Barretts Strips were not good. His defense was.
Props to Thibs getting fresh legs Grimes in with about 2.5 min left which and he was able to seal the win.
Enjoyed Hubie Browns calling the game on ESPN.
THis was not a pretty win. Randle was not 100% but he gutted it out. We got a good win. Both teams looked like they had the yips.
1-0 and getting first one on the road is very pretty!!

In general I liked what Randle was doing out there.
RJ got in one of those weird zones he periodically gets into - almost just throwing the ball up to the basket and imagining his teammates will get the offensive board (Which, to be fair, happened a lot). The other stats - the assists and steals, were quite uncharacteristic for him and quite impressive!
Josh Hart has some ferocity to his game. Most “Knick” player since Starks, Made, and Sprewell? And hey, maybe Quickley also falls into the group. Relentless motor. He feels like averages more points than he actually does.
I don’t think anyone minds that he has tweaked the minutes/shots/development of RJ and Grimes - championship this year - and worry about stats next year! I hope those guys pick up some of the tricks in his toolkit. Imagine having 3 guys playing like Hart.

We won the game and didn’t really play well. If we shoot better next 3 games this will be a short series. Big IF tho

we played well. It was a perfect Knick game. Murdered them on the boards, low TOs. Didnt shoot the 3 well but that was offset but Cle missing some shots as well.

When you see a guy like Hart perform that way he did, it shows how important having mentally tough players is. The playoffs are a difference animal and some guys have it and some guys don’t. It’s important to have a few of the guys who really have it.

Our shooting was terrible for the most part. I don’t think it will continue. I can’t see IQ/Grimes/RJ bricklaying the entire playoffs
IQ going 0/5 after playing the way he did the last couple of months was a shock. IQ will bounce back. Grimes - hopefully those FTs got his confidence up. When he missed 2 open 3's from the elbow on one sequence I was shocked.
