Moving Randle to the 3 in your scenario?

Yes. That makes more sense.

I find myself rooting hard for the damn Heat - I respect their grind and just the way they all play together without agenda or on court drama.
Nuggets are hard to dislike at a high level but I will be rooting for Heat regardless of past Knick trauma.

Turn in your fan card. You cannot be a Knicks fan and root for the cHeat.

Knicks would have 6 guys rostered and about 30 million in space, depending on cap holds for incoming rookies. Do you think the likes of Siakim or Jaylen Brown are going to be available for 30 million when they can get 40 million per via a sign and trade? I just don't see it.
So now that you are going to strawman argue again let me make it clear. I simply don’t want the Knicks to get locked into stupid extension contracts with Hart and IQ this offseason. If IQ and Hart want to give us a hometown discount to stay great — I’m pretty sure neither will do so. We can make the playoffs and get to the second round next season with or without either player. Now go continue to put words in my mouth about luxury tax
Since you're "hanging your ass out" why don't you tell us now what you think would be a fair contract for each of IQ and Hart, and what qualifies as a reasonable "home town discount"? Just so we don't put words in your mouth about what you think they are worth?
@PhilC - still waiting for your response to my question above

I don’t care about your nonsense gotcha question. I think we should trade IQ for picks. If Hart wants to pick up his player option great. I wouldn’t give him more than a 3 year deal with a team option for year 3 similar to what we gave Derrick Rose

Gotcha question? I just asked you what you think would be a fair contract for each that you don't think would be an overpay. Is that so hard? You're losing any credibility you might have had right now.

On which planet?
The one that thinks your cleaver and you make friends being snarky.
Traded for Karl-Anthony Towns in exchange for Evan Fournier, Obi Toppin, Immanuel Quickley
New York Knicks declined Club Option for Derrick Rose .
New York Knicks exercised Club Option for Miles McBride .
Josh Hart declined Player Option.
Signed Josh Hart to a free agent contract.
New York Knicks guaranteed the cap figure for Jericho Sims .
New York Knicks guaranteed the cap figure for DaQuan Jeffries .
New York Knicks guaranteed the cap figure for Isaiah Roby
Brunson/ McBride
RJ/ Grimes
Randle/ Hart
KAT/ Sims
Robinson/ Hartenstein
Jeffries/ Roby/ Keels/ Washington (end of bench)
If Hart is resigned to an 18 million contract that team has an 8 million tax payment next season.
The end of the bench guys don't seem to offer much. The Knicks would have access to the full MLE depending on the order they make those transactions, specifically before trading for KAT.
The 9 man regular season and 8 man playoff rotation seems like it would be able to compete for championships.

Either Randle or Mitch has to go if you do a KAT deal. Personally, I think KAT is a center at this point and you won't get far with Randle at the wing.

That would be the starting lineup. The team would finish games with KAT at center, Randle, RJ Brunson and one of Grimes or Hart. In 2024-25 KAT's extension kicks in so Hartenstein would likely not be resigned for luxury tax reasons.
Milwaukee Boston Philly Miami New York
Lopez - R Williams Embiid Adebayo M Robinson
Giannis- Horford Tucker Love KAT
Middleton Tatum Harris Butler Randle
Allen Brown Harden Herro RJ
Holiday Smart Maxey Vincent Brunson
I don't see any big problem with those matchups.

The Gobert trade makes acquiring KAT even more difficult. Ainge fleeced the wolves for picks so in return they will want to similarly fleece somebody else. They will probably ask for RJ or Randle, Grimes, IQ or Obi, and a half dozen firsts. F that
Not sure if wolves will want Mitch since they already have Gobert but they will probably also ask for Sims as a throw in

The thing is I think the Monty Williams hiring makes that Detroit pick a lot more valuable. It seemed pretty unlikely that it would ever convert but now that they shelled out a lot of money on the coach, they will make a major push to at least get in the play in.
On the other hand, firing Budenholzer and crapping out in the playoffs make the Milwaukee pick (top 4 protected) more valuable as well. Its still two years out to convert . Before the playoffs it looked like a lock to be at the end of the 1st round. Now it could be anything.
Knicks have 4 extra picks, so even if they traded all 4 of them, it would just be two of their own. I think you could argue that IQ and Obi have more upside than anyone they gave up for Gobert (before Kessler broke out)
The interviews I have seen with KAT make me think he's a really positive and happy guy. He doesn't have it in him to force a trade like Butler or Davis did. He was drafted by Minnesota, they gave him a max extension, and he will honor it. At the same time playing in New York for a championship contender would bring out the best in him.

Kat played 29 games last year.
Jules was All NBA. Jules contract has three more years and never goes over 30mi.
While I won’t go so far to say they are on equal footing trade value but the fact is Jules has been a more productive player that last few years.
Ainge got quite the haul for Rudy but one has nothing to do with another. IF Leon and Co. are disciplined as they have exhibited previously they won’t subscribe to PhilC’s simple logic. Minny can ask.
Jules is not on part with Kat but is a compelling fit. Few Power forwards are available that hang 24 pts per game and has range. Jules is durable.
If I had to guess, KAT for Jules and EF for salary. They’ll want a conditional pick? Im ok if our staff thinks KAT will play to his contract and improve the team. Has to be a strong conviction for this by them. Fans want change.
The idea should be to add KAT to Randle and Brunson so the Knicks have a legitimate Big 3 that can contend.
