Knicks · Death to tanking talk (page 1)

The Miami Heat have one superstar and two all star level players Herro and Bam, they drafted not in the top of the draft, plus a boat load of non drafted players. Miami has been in highly successful the last several years. Philadelphia went thru the process and won two top picks and many high lottery picks and not so much. Plus look at tanking teams like OKC, Detroit, Orlando, having years of top of the draft picks and not gaining any success. Winning culture is much more important. Screw Dallas for losing on purpose for a pick. Luka and Kyrie could have gone on a run themselves if they showed the cojones. Go Knicks ..

To be fair, Miami tends to get gifted players. They have a great institution and it isn't really luck that guys like Love just come to Miami.

The Knicks are building their institution back using the heritage of the 90s Knicks. You are seeing them re-employ guys like Starks, Houston, Larry Johnson and Latrell Sprewell and having them work with the Knicks.

But they are making the moves to build the institution - the franchise, along with the team.

they do, more importantly they develop them and I think we may be getting there. Miami have been doing it longer but we have a pretty good looking group of young guys drafted very late in IQ/Grimes/Mitch/McBride... Hopefully a couple more years like this and Brunson, our star closer will be surrounded by a bunch of gifted players as well. Feels like a nice trend here. IQ is gonna be playoff hungry to establish himself there, Grimes coming off a 48 minute elimination game (5) gem... really tons of positives for the young guys. I think we are seeing similar development

and yes... death to that tanking shit. Never again. You can build a program with young talent without sucking for half a decade on purpose

Orlando, Detroit, Charlotte, New Orleans, etc all landed really good players in the lottery and continue to shuffle around in the lottery most years. Tanking really only matters when you have a Victor Wembanyama type available and you get him. If you don’t have Spurs or Cavs lottery luck then it doesn’t work well typically.

Tanking is never going away.
