Hart made $13 and was our quintessential glue guy. Plus $5M seems fair to lock up a culture guy who makes everyone around him better. Guys commenting on shooting numbers were not watching second half of season and playoffs.

Top 5 rookie. 6th man. Looking at Maxey who is rumored to be in the market for max at $200M, IQ is a deal. Especially when I feel he is as good or better if he had Maxey's minute opportunity.
Knicks have a $25M All Star.
A $26m All Star to be in JB.
If RJ outplays his $24M, our core payroll is pretty darn good.
We just need some more pieces. Bench and shooting.
If a true number one comes along, try to keep most of our core. IQ and JHart included.

x2! Just by releasing Rose we can sign Hart to up to 18.5 million without entering the luxury tax. If we release Roby and Jeffries for minimum salary rookies we can open a little more. The cap is set to increase by about 10 million the year afterwards making an IQ extension also workable. Knicks can start Hart big and go small and start IQ small and go big to open up a little more room for Hartenstein. If Knicks play well next season, dipping into the luxury tax to keep Hartenstein and Obi is also a possibility. Top teams usually pay the tax.

It's tough because you really need a team to figure out how many teams will have cap space, which players are likely available, team needs, and even comparative taxes. You'd think all things being equal Josh would want to stay in New York but with his age this will likely be his best chance to earn legacy money for his family. I agree with Hofstra's take that Knicks spent a lot on?guys who didn't contribute last season so a slight overpay isn't bad.

Phil, is your argument that letting Hart walk this season, then letting Fournier's contract expire and clearing Hartenstein IQ Obi and McBride puts the Knicks in a better position? Knicks would have 6 guys rostered and about 30 million in space, depending on cap holds for incoming rookies. Do you think the likes of Siakim or Jaylen Brown are going to be available for 30 million when they can get 40 million per via a sign and trade? I just don't see it.

Odds are high both get resigned/extended as they should be. The main issue I see is the mins distribution for among 4 guys. Grimes and Hart can slide to SF sure. But that caps the teams ability to reach the next level.
Will probably take another playoff loss for the org to come to this conclusion though.

Actually I agree with Phil on some stuff. I don't want to overpay Hart and IQ but trust the front office in this regard. We both agree Bob Meyers gets overblown in the media. Just the inability to admit mistakes "worse contract in the league" "salary cap hell" shit pisses me off.

Some thought it was nuts to pay Brunson over 100mil. Year later it was a bargain.
All teams make mistakes. Its the fatal ones that get you. Beal with that money and NTC got Tommy Shepard fired.
