Knicks · MLE canidatez (page 1)

Whose the best canidates for our MLE ? Pardon the spelling error
KnickDanger @ 6/17/2023 11:53 AM
What are our biggest needs and who at the MLE would decently address them? Three point shooting - after that maybe more versatile centers or a back up true PG? And would those be addressed in a larger move? Who knows but so far it seems likely the FO is proceeding in keeping the team intact, looking at improvement as coming from players already on the roster. Anyone coming on board would probably not be looking at major minutes, barring injury which of course is always possible.
MaTT4281 @ 6/17/2023 1:33 PM
This is secondary. I don't think there's anyone at an MLE level that's going to break into the rotation as it stands.

If the FO pulls off a trade with us losing 2-3 rotation players in the process, then you reassess. There's a million different ways it could go between who we'd target and who it'd cost.

Can't wait until we start hearing about draft day trades.

Alpha1971 @ 6/17/2023 2:10 PM
Get best available MLE despite of position. Acquire as much talent as possible. Draft day trades may include future second rounders and protected picks for one. If we sign a MLE back up 4/5 then we trade Obi to Indiana for 26 ( 29 would likely be preferable to Indiana to keep for themselves ) and Duarte. Duarte can be insurance for if we trade IQ perhaps for a Beal or Lavine.

I think the Obi to Indiana trade ideas are taking a backseat. Indiana is reportedly eyeing Paskal now. But I think you could have Duarte for a chopped cheese sandwich if it ever came down to it.

Duarte I just mentioned cause it would be the contract needed to get Obi to Indiana.

It will come down to what, if any, position in the rotation frees up as a result of a trade. I am going to assume Toppin is moved, maybe for a pick or future pick. If that’s the case I can see Naz Reid, Torrey Craig, or Keita Bates-Diop for MLE or less depending on if the Knicks prefer a 4-5 or a 3-4 combo. If the Knicks make a big trade and need real replacement talent, I can’t think of a better fit than DiVincenzo.

They need a combo forward. The team doesn't really have a true SF. Barrett and Hart can play there but ideally they are bigger 2's.

Now is not a great time to trade Obi. We might not even get a first round pick for him

Obi, DC pic for Deni and some second rounders.

Interesting idea. Change of scenery might help both guys

Or just don’t resign hart. Maintain cap flexibility

That would be an epic fail for the team for so many reasons. Are you just playing devils advocate by suggesting that ?

MS @ 6/19/2023 8:35 AM
I think a sign and trade for Naz Reid would be interesting if you include Obi.

He makes winning plays and is very talented. It would open off an IHart trade to bolster the bench and you could add Divencenzo. It would also allow Minnesota to explore a KAT trade perhaps with Atlanta.

Would make us very interesting.

Mitch - Naz
Randle - Hart
RJ - Donte
Grimes - IQ
Brunson - McBride

I think he doesn't understand how the cap works

No it’s not devil’s advocate. That’s exactly what we should do

So you think Hart is worth a $65 million extension?

1) if we don't keep him it doesn't mean we have that money to spend for a free agent, we already over the cap. Hart is not perfect but look at players getting the similar contracts, that what everyone in his value will get. Plus, you need players with contracts to include in deals to match contracts in the future. If we don't keep Hart it helps how ?

Yes.
His WS/48 when he was with us would have ranked 25 in the league.

Our record after we acquired him - 17 & 8. That is 680% or a 55 win season.

You would toss that away because?

martin @ 6/19/2023 7:25 PM
Who would consider CP3 to come off bench?

I’d consider it heavily, with team options for anything beyond first year.
