the fact that 3 years later ANYONE is predicting a finals berth for us is quite amazing. And this is despite us "missing out" on all the "superstars".

Gotta give props to Thibs and the FO, they have really turned this thing around faster than anyone could have imagined. And the great thing is we are doing this with a very young roster and flush with picks. This isn't some last gasp with a bunch of older vets.

Yep, the turnaround has been wholesome exactly because of the factors you have described. RJ may or may not become StarJ , Randle could faulter in the playoffs or perhaps not , Brunson might not be the best ball distributor in the NBA alongside him being one of the best shot creators and makers. One thing is for sure tho, we don't have any ALBAtross contracts, we have picks and our team seems to be shaping around one of the best nonNBA finals coaches in the league. Could he become a finals coach? I didn't used to think so, but I do now. The crew sure fits his bill. We are either some internal growth or an outside superstar away from conference finals/NBA finals. It's not so far fetched.

We were an ankle injury or two away from the finals last season, IMO.

Perhaps. Randle healthy and its possible we beat Miami.
At least RJ had room to show up and finish his season strong.
Parity keeps fans in the hope zone. Knicks could be in mix for top 4 seed.
Clev comes back stronger and Mobley a year more mature.
Boston might be better with White now starting and KP if, if, if he can play 60+ and healthy thru the playoffs.
Philly has to sort Harden out.
Nets? Have to give them credit as they came thru the DeStarPhuchization phase pretty good. Simmons is the wild card there. If he returns to form, they have good ability to make a finishing trade to compete.
Milwaukee? Should be top two, but if not the rumors will swirl. Nets, OKC and Knicks have the goods to bid on him.
Miami? Can't say they improve on paper but those pluckers can surprise. They lost Vincent and Strus but they seem to find a way?

Celtics are going to be worse. We actually played competitive against the heat even if we lost. Harden is an overrated clown who chokes in the playoffs. The Bucks are the only team in the East we have no shot at beating in a 7 game series

I dunno. With all the love for Giannis, I expect his stats to drop off dramatically with a new coach. Say what you want about Bud, he gets real efficiency out of his players and they tend to drop off immediately after they leave. Bucks are a solid team with veteran depth and a superstar. But, if you go back and watch Randle vs Giannis, Randle is in his head. He can’t physically body Randle the way he does so many others. I’m not saying Randle is the better player, but I think on the defensive matchup, Randle turns Giannis into a jump shooter from 13 feet. He will still score 20+ points, but it’s not an efficient look.

Good points. Head to head is one thing. We do know Giannis can carry the team in the playoffs.
I guess a Giannis trade depends on the price. Seems Bucks could rebuild with Randle as sort of stop gap to keep fan base engaged and not totally tank out.
Lets take it one step further.......Jrue Holiday also a knick? Next to Jalen?

HOliday
JB
Barrett
Mitch
Giannis

Those two eat a lot of salary BTW. Grimes, IQ and Jules likely have to go. I don't know how this can happen. Not sold it should. But things are slow!

We almost got swept by an undermanned Miami team and got worse this offseason and some are talking championship?

He's not wrong. A lot will ride on how Thibs handles our small ball configurations and our luck with injuries.

I would feel more comfortable if we had a replacement for Toppin. Either in the similar style energy player, or even a center that can shoot to complement iHart or Sims stepping in at the PF. I feel that's the obvious piece we need.
I think both iHart and Sims are fine at the PF, but need a different player at the 5 at that point. Can't have 2 non-scoring bigs in at the same time.

(I won't mention upgrading an SF that can shoot >30% from 3p.... oops. I just did.)

Why? Why do you need a backup 5 who can shoot?

Centers can typically defend, rebound, shoot from distance. There are like maybe 5 centers in the league who can do all 3 with proficiency? Mitch and iHart do 2 pretty darn well and iHart has at least the potential to shoot more from distance to compliment his passing. I think his passing from the high post will make up for his 3point shooting until that comes back.

Doesn't need to be a center, but we do need frontcourt players (preferably one with size) who can shoot. We can't even trust our frontcourt starters to consistently hit league average from three season to season. As for iHart, I agree that his passing from the high post can alleviate some of the spacing issues in the second unit. But we're giving up a lot of size. It's a Rubix cube.

We lost to an undermanned Miami team that went to finals, and conf finals year before but had an injured Herro.
We are doomed because we don't have 16 min of obi toppin.
No faith in continuity.
No faith in Front office to find a suitable back up to jules.
No faith that Isiah Robey might be that guy?
No faith in in a full season of Josh hart.
No faith Isiah Hart can improve.
No faith in RJ being a bit better.
No faith in Brunson being even a bit better with another year
