Hardley a rip. Saw the video clip of the quote and DRose was cautious to not make it sound like he was tearing into Thibs whom he loves.
I got from it that he was trying to say it was different and he is enjoying a different environment. He has to compliment his new team to some extent?
Memphis coach does have a good rep and does a good job.
Was it a "rip"?
My take on his benching last year was it was for the betterment of the team. Drose happy about it? Of course not. Im sure he wanted another crack at it but Thibs went with Yoot and it worked.
Bondy with the hype click bait gig. Boo!!!!

I think you may have heard this before but I'll put it out there: Someone else is creating the headline, typically not the author of the article.

That's the clickbait portion of their business. Meaningless headlines that don't really reflect the content of article.

Nalod @ 10/6/2023 12:41 PM
That makes sense. The article is not that bad but it frames it badly.
If true, and I don't doubt you, then Im being a bit harsh? Perhaps.

It holds for pretty much all newspapers, online stuff, etc. I'd guess that rags like NYPost and Daily News and the like are more click-baity, their headlines don't always match their articles.

NY Times, Wash Post, etc. prob hold more closely to what is written.

It's an unfortunate dynamic that not everyone is aware of: I *know* the beat writers mention this from time to time especially when they are called out - Bondy, FredK, Berm - as they sheepishly shrug their collective shoulders. But that's the world they write in.

I'm not sure that's always the case these days. Newsroom staffs have experienced major cuts over the years and I'm sure it's pretty common for writers to have to write their own headlines and do the majority of their own copyediting. Probably not the case with our local printed trash can liners tho.

I agree, it didn't seem like a rip to me either. Rose has always struck me as an interesting guy. He is a weird dude and I honestly don't think he takes much personally. I am sure he didn't like getting benched last year but I don't think he has a Thibs vendetta. On the contrary, I think he probably still appreciates that most of the time Thibs wanted him even when others didn't. I hope Rose plays well this year. He was a great watch for about a season and a half under Thibs in NY. Last year he only played 27 games and only played 16 or more mins 7 times. He didn't get much of a chance. He didn't shoot well in his limited time and has never been a defender so I understand why he lost his spot. I also recognize that he didn't get much opportunity and I felt like he might have been the victim of some circumstances outside his control. Even if the latter is true I think Rose understands that nothing was personal or vindictive and that sometimes things aren't "fair"

ANd he got paid very well! He was given the job but could not hold it. He was the vet coming in and given the benefit of the doubt.
He had missed a lot of time the year before and true, he did lose the weight and came in good shape. But not enough to ward off all the yoot that was coming on. Remember, IQ Struggled early on. Knicks made the right call. He could not be bought out because he had a team option still in play. He was given an ask I thought if he wanted to be traded to a contender but I thought the quote was he was cool as long as knicks were winning. Quotes are not always the truth are they? He was being pro.

Interesting to me that for a while Thibs was termed the stick with veterans don't play the youth guy, but it was the two longest term vets in Rose and Fournier that sat when he went with young (and more effective) players and turned last season around. Rose had that one great stretch for us - which Thibs mentions - but otherwise didn't produce. He was paid well. No need to be bitter and he doesn't sound it. But yeah, Post headline guys....

Some of those props have to go to the front office as well for finding good young players in the draft, in free agency, and resigning. In retrospect that 2021 summer of free agency was a disaster. Fournier had one good season, but Rose, Noel, and Kemba weren't able to deliver anything. Burks was good enough to get the Knicks out of Noel's.deal along with the trading for picks, but, outside of that limited value, none of those signings worked out. We can toss the Cam Reddish trade on as the final piece of that shit sandwich.

Instead the Knicks were able to pivot to Brunson, Hartenstein, and the youth, then Hart and DDV. My feeling is also that this team is a lot more likely to deliver continued success, just because of the upside of the players we have.

Rose's career was winding down and Thibs was able to secure him another big contract. There's no hard feelings there.

franco12 @ 10/7/2023 11:33 AM
I don't know who or why anyone would think Rose could criticize not getting time- I had a hard time distinguishing Rose from Kemba in terms of being effective, or rather, completely not effective/impactful when they played.

For me, Rose flat sucked his last year here

SergioNYK @ 10/8/2023 9:11 AM
I don't see how what Rose said was an attack on Thibs. Its been known forever that Thibs is a hard ass who runs a tough training camp. Big deal. Bondy being an idiot as always.

Martin reminded us the titles are often made not by the writher by the organization for clickbait purpose.
