It's not our hearts he needs to win over. Better hope Thibs holds no grudges against his brother. 😈
Anyone here watch the game on MSG+? I'm not reading good things about it on Reddit

Shucks, I was hoping for good things

Meaningless first preseason game that was nonetheless a win but the natives are restless….it’s New York basketball again!

Knicks need a back up PF that is a threat on offense to allow their offense to work Incase RJ, Julius or Hart misses any time cause Simms ain't it.
Mitch looks like a beast out there. He's grown on me and we have him locked up pretty cheap

Deuce McBride?
Sims maybe? I’m still all in on Jacob Toppin to make the team. Let the deuce McToppin era begin
I second that. Big Jacob toppin fan. I believe he has a lot of potential on both ends.
Deuce looks like Deuce. And on this team Deuce will not get any burn unless there’s an injury. We are so deep at the guard spot, especially with EF making angry 3’s and taunting Thibs after every shot 😂.
Not only NY Sports media but even the Boston broadcasters had a field day with this EF / Thibs relationship. The more EF talks and plays like this, the more attention he will get and eventually get traded.
But is it just me? I like angry EF. I’ve said this since he came here. Great shooter to have off the bench, especially on a team that lacks efficiency from deep.

Can he duplicate Obi ? If so he is in Thibs doghouse, lol

Sell us on Jacob please. Didn’t see much last night but its just one preseason game. He is 23. Them Toppin boys are late bloomers.
I like angry EF also! Can’t say media attention gets him traded or Boston (who he played for) has any influence but at 18mil its not an easy contract to move and either knicks asked too much, or teams wanted to dump something on us we did not want.
Teams know what Evan is and he is a solid pro. They say his FIBA game and understand his limitations.
For the most part the teams that had cap space were young and want to give minutes to yoot.
The team that can use him most likley will wait for a buyout. I assume he wants to play, not just sit and get paid.
My thoughts on the game last night, was passively watching the first half so some of my takes might be slightly off base.
Starters looked good and in sync. A year of cohesion could bode well for them. We still lack firepower but we could be pretty damn good if everyone continues to settle into their comfort zones. Jalen looks ready to pick up where he left off as a true star and Randle seems pretty content letting the game come to him and letting Jalen/RJ do their cooking.
I'm excited to see IQ - DD - Grimes with Hart at the 4 instead of Jericho. I like how that 3 guard lineup looked. DD gives us a little bit of a unique twist we haven't had in years past with extra ball handling/shooting.
Even with DD on board, it seems IQ and Grimes are locked into their spots in the hierarchy/pecking order.
Jacob Toppin stood out amongst the reserves. He looks much more of a "Thibs guy" than Obi did. He's basically the defensive version of Obi. He looked like he could be a legit pro if he can find a way to hit corner 3s. He seemed to show an ability to make his mark on the game with energy plays. Those guys are valuable in this league if they can find a way to give you something on offense.
So far so good. Bigger tests ahead.
this team looks like it could mimic those Billups DET teams. We have continuity, which most teams lack. We have a smart, poised superstar in Brunson. And Randle and RJ looked very composed last night. we are a legit 10-11 deep with guys that play hard, defend and are really starting to get to know each others spots on the court. And we are well coached.
Sleeper contender, but we have the pieces to make that trade to make us a perennial contender.
Nobody got injured so I'm content.

Think if you took Obi and added 50 points to his basketball IQ. Jacob is a high energy effort guy who won't get lost on D or miss rotations. He is a dogged defender who will crash the boards and doesn't shy away from contact. He will get you garbage baskets, back door cuts and rebound like a demon possessed. He can dribble and pass and will be constant motion on offense if not made to stand in the corner. His weakness is his shot. It doesn't look very reliable and I am not sure it ever will be. He has a prototypical Wings body and athleticism which is a plus on a team that has a lot of tweeners. He knows how to play and is always around the ball on both ends. He should develop into a nice NBA bench guy. While I don't know this, I think he is likely a very good lockeroom guy also. This kid is going to make an NBA team and he has all the attributes of a 'Thibs guy'.

haha I love EF and his angry 3's, that's a great way to put it

So I agree with most of what you said, and keep in mind, I followed Jacob as soon as I realized Obi had a brother. My assessment is not based on a preseason game btw. Eventhough he showed glimpses of what I like about him.
Jacobs jump shot might look funky or unreliable, but I believe his mid range jumper can be reliable over time, similar to how Obi was trending into a decent 3 pt shooter. But Jacob right now is better than Obi when he came into the league, as far as defense and IQ. If you look at highlights of Jacob, you will see him bricking shots, then the next game, he can't miss. So it's very inconsistent, but who's jumper is consistent as an undrafted rookie. Jeremi Grant jumper was terrible. Now he's a reliable shooter. I can see Jacobs jumper coming around sooner than later. But right now he has 2 way potential. Personally I like his motor at a young age, which is something you can't teach.

I’m a little more pessimistic. Thought team as a whole don’t look sharp
First game of preseason I'm mostly looking at individual performances. Seeing who came back with some new wrinkles in their game.
I hope Grimes puts the ball on the floor more. Said in an offseason interview that he was looking forward to it, like back in high school.
Once Grimes settles into his role, hopefully we'll see Q trying to show that part of his game. The operative word is "try". Takes time.

My high level thoughts after watching this one.
- we will be solid
- we will still be VERY CLUNKY offensively with lots of iso
- Brunson/Randle going to get grinder to the bone for points - though RJ may suck some more usage from them
- we feel short of pure offensive skill
- we feel short in 2nd unit —— where have you gone Jaden McDaniels (McDimaggio)
Mitch and IQ looked hungry. Love that because both are playing for and want bigger roles.
