Who’s the odd man out in the starting line up?

Randle or RJ go - potentially with IQ depending on size of the star.

I’ve said this before but for as much as I knock Julius he carries far more positional & athletic gravity vs RJ who despite his solid #s / attitude still looks rather sluggish to my eye.

Julius when his head is right can be a force that requires attention from multiple defenders. RJ really has never shown that IMO.

I don’t think you get a solid star without 1 of these these guys included.

RJ showed alot of playoff potential, that's the issue with Randle, can he do it under playoff pressure?

I don't think teams would want Randle in a trade anyway, he's approaching 30 also.

Here's the thing, Randle is showing he can be a facilitator and take a back seat on offense and get 7-8 assists a night. And RJ isn't a natural scorer.

I think there's a world where Randle is an 18-20ppg playmaker, and RJ is an efficient 16-18ppg two way player and we fit another star at SG.

LivingLegend @ 11/19/2023 11:20 AM
So who are you suggesting is traded?
LivingLegend @ 11/19/2023 11:21 AM
I get he teams not wanting Randle but in a package with IQ, picks - they may be ok with Randle.

I think we could get Lavine for Grimes, picks and filler.

If we're talking DM, then it's probably going to be RJ, IQ and picks.

that's part of the reason I'm intrigued by Lavine, I think he would cost much less and his production and durability the past 5-6 years has been better than DM.

but in that case you're just using him as salary filler and he has more value to us than that. We have Evan for salary filler.

I would make IQ the starter and trade Grimes + Randle + picks. For what, I don't know.

It never stops does it? We have a good young hard nosed team trending upwards and some can't wait to jettison our players in a crap shoot. To each their own.

I particularly hate the 'star player' phrase. This is the NBA where 15 guys make the all NBA squad. If you can't realistically project a player and a trade scenario you're just blowing hot air.

Original post was - In a trade for a star player.

That sounds like exactly the type of post that should be on a pro sports message board and everyone just coming in with thoughts but some guys always more loyal or smarter than everyone on the board - boring.

LivingLegend @ 11/19/2023 12:25 PM
The guy that allows us to keep the rest of roster in tact but could provide legit big-time playoff score is 34 year old B Bogdonavich (Pistons).

Has had a calve injury to start season but he is a legit player who can points off catch and dribble - inside & out.

Maybe Piston pick back and a few 2nds —- if you pull that off you have full roster and 1 more weapon who can swing 3/4 positions.

May be unnecessary - maybe not enough but there aren’t many guys you can get who could win you a playoff game but not cost too much and leave roster intact.

Could it also be that some of us don't wish to return to the Isaiah Thomas years, getting the sugar rush, clogging the salary structure, and giving no opportunity for young talent to gel and move forward? Absolutely posters come here to state their opinions even if they are misguided or worse. Are you saying my opinion doesn't belong here? Or that I should only respond to the original post and not more dump Randle for Zach Levine nonsense?

Edit - and I sure as hell don’t regard myself as more loyal or smarter. And of course when you or someone rags on Randle for the umpteenth time it is done with the greatest humility. And never boring no matter how many times a day....

My friends, Open concept to say "Star". If we are to play pretend at least figure who comes in and then who goes out.
The money matters.
The players matter.
Lavine wants to be a Laker. Read up on things and his agent does not want NY. Did not say its Anti NY, but he wants LA.
And it makes more sense for Chicago to send him there.

Trade RJ, you have hole at SF.
trade Randle for Lavine, who plays PF?
Trade Randle for KAT, Minny saves a ton of money. But we have to send Evan, and might have to take a big back too.
Minny gets an all star PF to replace KAT and can still contend.
We do this every day. Details matter.

and Lillard wanted MIA, but what does LA possibly have to offer for Lavine?

Not sure how you would make that work. Lavine makes $40m and Grimes is at $2.4m. Knicks are over the cap so you would need in the $30m+ range in filler & exceptions. Just guessing that you would have to include Grimes plus a rotational player to make the salaries match. That and paying $50m a year for Lavine in a few years makes it a no-go for me.

They added DDV while already having Grimes and IQ. Which pushes Hart and RJ to play SF/PF. Adding BB would have to cut someone out of the rotation.

The target based on needs is a Hartenstien for Olynyk. He even has NYK in his name. Would offer a dimension don't have in a big that can stretch the floor. And we can evaluate if it allows Randle for one to elevate his game with more spacing added.

It could be anyone but Brunson really. The rest can be upgraded over by a star. Most likely would be grimes though.

Nalod @ 11/20/2023 11:10 AM
Caruso would be a nice fit next to Brunson. A dog, one that can shoot don't hurt.
Media depicts Bulls will ask a lot for him, perhaps as much as Lavine would cost.
Media say Lavine wants Philly, Miami or Lakers. He don't want us and perhaps he and Thibs don't get on well. Thibs traded him when he was in Minny for Jimmy Butler
It was 7 years ago, but sometimes things happen.
Thats cool, not with that contract he owns!

KFS podcast had a Wolves blogger on and he believes that the Wolves wouldn't want Randle in a Kat trade. He also said there's some sentiment that Naz Reid could simply fill in if Kat is ever traded.

Makes sense. He was resigned and perhaps good enough to start on many teams. At the same time Naz is insurance if Kat or Rudy are out for prolonged time.
This is a "Win now" year for Minny and I doubt if Kat is healthy and playing well, and he is, they would move him this year. They will be hitting that apron when Kats deal explodes and financially them might be incentivized. When? thats on ownership.
