Swear he hurt it trying to dunk against either Nets or Heat but got blocked at rim —— next time on court he was wearing elbow brace.

Glad he got the night off and hopefully back for Markanen and/or Sexton if necessary.

Todd not taking Hornets for granted - definitely a Thibs guy.

Enjoying watching Precious - like the versatility and that he stays in front of most guys off the dribble.

I think Bridgesmonly got him 2 or 3 times tonight straight up and every time someone switched Bridges went straight for easy bucket.

Also liked when Thibs went small with Precious at center with Hart at PF and Deuce, Donte and Grimes.

Grimes however laid another turd - the kid has little clue how to consistently put the ball in the hoop - particularly around the rim and he’s always crashed on the floor after a layup.

Donte is a personal zone buster. Look at every score of his in this video that is vs a set defense. They were all zones. His signing was a masterclass.

Chemistry!

Guys are enjoying playing. Pretty soon thibs will be happy (not that he’ll show it)

DDV was the most underrated move. He barely got a thread. But he has been terrific. We don't need no Lavine.

I think this team will be good even with Randle down, but they do need OG back. They can re-form around Brunson and the wings and keep us going until Randle gets back. In a vacuum and not counting "potential" and all that, we need the dude in Grimes role to be a legit scorer though. That role needs to be a guy who can reliably give us 20 if we need it.

I like our crop of bigs. Jericho and Precious have been effective in their spot minutes as we move them around from role to role. Jericho had some really nice cuts and touch passes yesterday. Precious hit a 3 and was good around the basket. Those types of guys who can play 0 mins, or 5 mins, or 25 mins, can start or come off the bench or play the 4 or 5, and be effective are really important. We probably could use a guy like that on the wing if we don't make a legit trade and decide to keep Grimes. Alec Burks comes to mind.

agreed. I was in on Lavine last year, but OG is a much bigger impact player.

DDV is doing what I envisioned from Lavine. Just quick catch and shoot deep 3's with no hesitation.

DDV might be more valuable than Lavine right now, and he's probably more valuable than IQ too. IQ tended to pound the ball and ISO for his scoring. DDV is just moving the ball, defending, and just shooting 3's at an elite clip from all over the court.

He's been pretty amazing. Still, like IQ, I think he's a guy that maxes out around 25-30mpg, not sure he's a guy that can regularly play 36 min and keep the production up.

one of the best value contracts in the league and allowed us to trade IQ for OG without missing much. Truth be told DDV has been better than IQ this season.

Last thought - Donte's has a unique skill in that he can shoot 3s very well on first pass swing. Most guys need inside-out action or multiple swings to an open 3 to be effective shooters. Donte can simply take a pass from the top of the key and let it fly with a defender in position and nail them. He's a "gunner" in that regard and a highly efficient one. Simply can't leave him open at any time. Turning out to be one of the leagues best shooters, and he brings an all around game to the table with it. Extremely effective player. Absolute gem of a signing.

LOL, we basically had the same thought at the same time.

nycericanguy @ 1/30/2024 8:54 AM
its crazy DDV is playing less than 23mpg on the season. feels like more because he contributes starter type numbers.

but his starting numbers are really damn good

Donte DiVincenzo has averaged 14.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 29 games as a starter this season in just 24.6mpg.

So don't tell me there weren't ops for Grimes in the starting 5...lol.

still have hope for Grimes though, just crazy that Thibs got so much blame for "not getting Grimes looks". Thibs has basically been proven right on everything he's done. Can't doubt the man anymore.
