Knicks · Brunson is 1A? Yes, Brunson is a 1A. (page 9)

NO DIDDY
Not to harp on the little guy thing, but its not like Becky Harmon invented this either.
JB plays less then 65 games next season that Super max is not there. JB blows out his knee It could be even less than what might be on the table.
I love the guy and not trying to knock him down. Yes I do believe at the end of the day he, Rick, Leon, and Sam all understand knicks put him in a position to succeed and there is a reasonable path for all to win. He is a fantastic worker and no doubt deserving of his 5 place MVP. That he lasted this long was truly inspirational and deserving of all the accolades he has gotten and then some!
He'd have to wait a year to get the super max, and have to nearly repeat much of this season. I'm not convinced he can repeat this kind of season and doing it just for the money is not sustainable. Longer term the money becomes an albatross as he ages and team cannot keep talent around him?
If this extension is accurate it also enables the team to plan. If OG and Randle want more knicks can do right by them and still receive value in return.

JB already out of the super max eligibility because he signed as a free agent. Only can happen with team that drafted you or if you were traded from that team (other reasons too).

So that $270mm figure something he was truly eligible for? Was that 4 or 5 year figure? We talking 67mm 4 years, or 54mm avg over 5. Thats serious coin!!!!
If knicks don't pay that, is there a market for it?

I think the $270M is if he played all through next season and then opted out of his player year for 2025-26 and signed a 5 year max deal at that juncture.

He is only eligible for the max for vets with 5+ years of eligibility if he signs this offseason (25% of the cap, or 35.5mm plus 7.5% increases. 35.5, 38.1, 41, 44 = 158mm). If he waits and plays 24-25, he would move up to the 7+ year max (30%) which would be based off of the significantly increased cap estimate at 155m next year + 7.5% increases = 46.5, 50, 53.7, 57.7, 62 = 270mm).
Would be a really respectable move by Brunson to benefit the franchise and allow them more flexibility going forward.

Scott Layden, is that you?
This guy is such a warrior and a true leader of men with both his actions and words. Competes every night and knows how to deal with the NYC spotlight. Continues to get better.
It occurred to me that he reminds me of Tim Duncan in a PG. He is the "Little Fundamental".

We got 3 legit stars with 2 of the best role players in the league in Josh/OG.

Brunson is so genuine, smart and just likable. The chemistry between he and Hart is wildly enjoyable because it's all about winning. They are maniacs and I love them like sons

Getting Brunson for nothing and getting Hart for so cheap were the 2 moves that transformed the entire culture for the team. And you’re right about the KAT trade. We got him for 2 players signed outright. Just unbelievable roster management.

Probably my favorite thing this FO has done was how well they pivoted from Kemba/Fournier. Mistakes that just didnt cost us or set us back. That's HUGE. No pride. That didnt work so move on.

IMHO, the key to our success is how Brunson and Towns distance themselves from the 1 and 1A thinking.
I have noticed several games where that exists over a team structure.
Feel it’s not being selfish but knowing when to let others/feed others who have it going,
JB, seems to take it on his shoulders too much.
Will also affect how Towns plays the game.
My feeling is that Towns truly felt he would be the main guy in NY.
Been a good soldier but as someone who played, I recognize the dynamic when it plays out on the court.
Hopefully both are committed to winning first and foremost. Think they are.

Everyone on this team has clearly bought into the team concept. No one is putting individual stats over wins and losses.

I felt like Randle was a good player who peaked here, but never saw him as a culture changing player. Anyways, I agree about pivoting from Kemba/ Fournier so seamlessly. Nothing wrong with taking gambles, but when they don’t work out you adjust quickly, and they did that. Sometimes it takes a little luck too. Brunson was supposed to get paid by Dallas and he didn’t. That changed everything.

Isn't JB also part of that tree?
Knicks gave up: KP, Janis, the horse he rode in on, Hardaway, other spare parts
Knicks receive: KAT, JB, IQ (became Precious? or part of OG), Deuce

Feel like KAT is within the trade tree because of Randle, who is there because of cap space created with the exit of KP.
Brunson was a cap space deal and we'd have to go to official review center but I don't think that counts.
KAT, OG, Deuce, Rokas, Precious can all be linked to the KP Trade tree?

It’s a bit naive to think that individual success and affinity for being “the go to guy” is not high on an elite players radar.
In fact, It is the main reason many teams with multiple stars do not work out or have success.
But I am specifically talking about the ability to not buy into the 1/1A mold where players feel they always have to be the ones to get it done.
And yes, we have seen it with JB this and last season.
He needs to understand when to back off his offense and let/get others involved and excel.
If not, we won’t be at our best.

Best game of the year for JB.
7 dimes in 4th quarter.
Read how defense was overplaying him and got the ball to open shooters.
This is next level JB we can go deep with.

Hopefully both are committed to winning first and foremost. Think they are.Everyone on this team has clearly bought into the team concept. No one is putting individual stats over wins and losses.
If not, we won’t be at our best.Best game of the year for JB.
7 dimes in 4th quarter.
Read how defense was overplaying him and got the ball to open shooters.
This is next level JB we can go deep with.
Agreed....His playmaking has definitely taken him to the next level and has/can make this team a legit threat in the east...
