Knicks · Cleveland is losing ugly in game 7 (page 1)

We could be looking at the last of this group together. Drop the mic, I'm not trading Mitchell. I'm trading Garland, Mobley and lavert for players who fit better around Mitchell and picks. They got 1 more year to get it right before Mitchell opts out and leaves.

Holy moly Donovan Mitchell picked his entire team up. Orlando with the total choke job. Those boys are still in the fetus stage of their team growth. What a difficult game to watch with all the fouls. No flow whatsoever. Still the Cavs aren't going anywhere as constructed.

I mean it was a petty good argument for why you don’t trade Donovan Mitchell and yo do everything you can to put a better team around him before the clock runs out.

"Soft" clev erected to the moment and advanced!
DM has his Clev moment.
KnickDanger @ 5/5/2024 8:17 PM
Shocked, shocked I tell you, to hear there was a premature reaction on the UltmateKnicks board!

DM leaving is his desire to play elsewhere?
Mobley is not what we thought he was, but he is 22 years old still.
Had 16 boards today.
Yes, Clev was without Allen.
Players and teams are not always what they were. We beat them last year. Does that mean they are "soft" forever?

LivingLegend @ 5/5/2024 9:59 PM
This didn't end well.

Pete Vecsey once said there's nothing more useless than a partial NBA score. That has become even more true. It's a game of runs and as someone else said 20 is the new 10 in terms of a lead - it ain't safe. But you see the freaked out comments in the game threads when the Knicks fall behind or give up a lead but especially when Thibs won't sub in Shake Milton with a 15 point lead with 5 minutes to go. It's the NBA kids!
HofstraBBall @ 5/6/2024 7:37 AM
For those keeping scoe, Suggs and Wagner a combined 3 for 28.
Garland 3 for 13.
Experience matters.

Orlando was my sleeper team at the start of the year - they had a tremendous stretch last year - after they were already out of it, where they started to play well as a team.

Banchero is 21! And he is 6'10"- he is mobile big man that can shoot - and he will only get better.

This seems to hinge on a major, IMO bad assumption that Donovan will stay. They need to plan for life after Donovan because all signs are he wants to choose his next destination like many players that reach their prime FA.

When has DM ever even hinted at requesting a trade. I'll wait right here......I'm pretty sure the assumption is yours

He talks about playing in NY and being a Mets fan, etc all the time. That's the indication.

Nalod @ 5/6/2024 12:04 PM
There has been a lot written that DM thought he was being traded from Utah to Knicks. A lot of conjecture surrounding that then and until he signs and extension and comments on his intentions its just assumed.
His father is a Mets employee, and he spends a lot of time here. The CAA thing? That just makes it cozy.
Johnny Bryant coached DM in his most formidable stage as a young player and its been said they are tight.
Since that summer when he was moved to Clev Jalen has emerged to his peer or perhaps beyond.
Does that change anything? Does the 15-2 January demonstrate we don't need that 3rd star? With the CBA and the apron's does it make sense?
Jalen is dues a raise. Jules is due a raise. OG is UFA. There are limits.

We really going to label Mobley at his age as a finished piece?
The "small backcourt" is flawed. Would they be if it was Brunson and DM also?
I dont't see how DM gets here. I can see him on the Nets with Mikal but Clev has to be happy with a trade and they in mostly "win now" mode.
I can see him as a Laker but not the path to how. same for Miami. I can see Herro as a Cav with Garland. Miami has to sweeten the offer still.

Or DM swears his oath to Cavs and they trade Garland and keep going forward. DM walking after the season?
I doubt that.

Key to critical thinking is to avoid assumptions. I think there are many facets to DM being traded, asking quietly to be traded, being a knick/Net/CAA, and his desire to live in NY during the season but to what degree each is valid is known by very few.

He hasn't requested a trade, never said he did. But he said upon arriving in Cleveland that he wanted to be and expected to be in NY. Every rumor indicates he will not be resigning in Cleveland. Why would he choose to stay there for his entire prime years if he has the option to go anywhere he wants in free agency? Especially when it wasn't the place he wanted to be in the first place?

He's a pro and will play out his contract but he's not gonna sign an extension and he will leave.

We don't really have to overthink it. Cleveland isn't where he wanted to go, and he has free agency approaching where he can choose the team he wants to go to and spend his prime years. Why would he stay in Cleveland? Nobody thinks he's actually going to do that. Whether the Knicks make a play for him or not is irrelevant, he will want to explore free agency like every star player pretty much does nowadays for their prime years.

How you know this? You really think he walks away from security and his bird rights?
He can extend and ask for a trade.
Cavs can ignore that ask.
He can hold out. Nobody holds out anymore.
He can give a list of teams suitable or ask his agent to find a deal that makes everyone happy.

DLeethal @ 5/6/2024 12:22 PM
During his introductory presser for Cleveland:

Donovan Mitchell: “I kinda had a feeling I was going to get moved. I thought it was New York, I'm not gonna lie to y'all. Who doesn’t want to be home…it would have been nice”

Since then he's gotten embarrassed in the playoffs by the Knicks, his team intentionally tanked to avoid playing a tougher team in the first round while the Knicks manned up and beat said team in a high profile historic series, his team nearly got eliminated by a first-timer Orlando Magic, his teammates barely showed up and he needed to be superman.

Not a whole lot to suggest he's gonna drop all his other options and commit to Cleveland for his entire prime.

Don't think he will extend and ask for a trade because that's exactly what got him in Cleveland instead of where he wanted to go. Going to assume he learned his lesson and will use the power of free agency to his advantage like many a star before him.
