There was a point in time where we probably needed Randle to shoot a ton of 3's. But in truth he's probably best as a finisher and we were seeing that for a bit. We have enough shooting and spacing on this team now where Randle can probably play the finisher role more and just be an efficient 20+ scorer/rebounder.

so are we better without Randle? IDK, but he's a damn good piece and he has 2 years left on his deal. I think if anything we are in a better position now where we won't have to throw a bad contract at him when he's 32/33. We can just move on if need be in 2 years.

Next year just run it back with Rokas and some cheap young draft talent.

a full year of OG, Bogs + the new Deuce and this team should win 60 ish games.

if I had to guess I expect to see Brunson/Randle extended, OG resigned to big money also. DD/Josh are locked up so that leaves the FO a little wiggle room with picks/parts etc to build around that core for next 5-6 years

I think you explore the right trade if the right guy is available like Giannis. But we don't need to be star gazing. This team is loaded for next year already.

And I think getting RJ out of the way made it much easier for Randle to pound the paint. Brunson - OG - DDV spacing the floor made a world of difference.

great post... it's really hard to respect the Pacers. Just zero killer instinct. Look at how tough the Knicks were on the road in Phili (I know their homecourt is trash). You just see none of that from the Pacers.

I REALLY want to win this series. I think somehow making the ECF with what's left of this squad is a great season. We have learned so much. Brunson a true 1a and closer. Josh and Donte are legit big game players. OG is a phucking menace... We have a friendly roster, extra pics and only 1 guy (IHart) in danger of not coming back.

I see us reloading w/ Randle and maybe a high end bench guy if they go a different direction w/ Bogs (I did like how he was looking and his expiring is worth keeping around). Looking more and more like we have a bigtime squad brewing here

I think you gotta roll it back, because what piece fits better than Randle. A more mobile 4 who can stretch the floor and guard multiple positions defensively? I mean who is that person?

Randle gives the team another look. If the rest of the group wears you out, he beats you up. He is Brandon Jacobs. But he is underrated as a shot creator both for himself and others and he is a beast on the defensive glass.

I love Bogs off the bench because he can give you shooting and scoring on nights when others don't have it. I think he was starting to understand the scheme defensively. He is playoff tested and has been an 18-20 pt scorer on contenders. He is a real piece.

We have 2 drafts picks and Rokas. Keep Hartenstein and draft a replacement for Precious if there is no way to re-sign him.

I think if we didn't have the 14-1 stretch with Randle healthy there would be more doubt, but we showed we have another level to play with him and that the pieces all fit brilliantly with him in tow. I'm glad we got that stretch of play because if not, I think everyone would be talking about us being better without him.

totally agree.. we have surely seen players elevate and grow in his absence which is great and NOT the same as being better without him. Most of all the thing w/ Randle/OG/DD/Brunson/Hart is they all want to WIN first and everything else is 2nd. There's no egos to stroke there. They all push each other to be better and accountable

The one thing I could potentially see being an issue is whether or not Hart will be content with a 25mpg backup role. He complained about his role early in the season and he has been unleashed, playing insane mins, getting lots of national media love. He's a pro but I could see that becoming a bit of an issue. You kind of have to give him all the backup 3 and backup 4 mins.

he's the perfect 6th man for Thibs... he's the new Deng. I see him as our Iggy.

Josh is very much a 2nd half player. No reason he cant get 30mpg off the bench. He can slide into 2/3/4 in most any of our line ups. He can start in any of those spots if someone goes down. Hardest thing is who does he play in crunch time?

VDesai @ 5/9/2024 10:17 AM
I don't think we have to worry about Hart's role or minutes under Thibs. Slow start to the year when we had a glut of wings, but Thibs at this point asks Josh to do everything possible on the basketball court for every single minute of the game and Josh obliges. I don't see how that situation changes anytime soon. He guards 5 positions, grabs every rebound/loose ball, starts every fast break, gets triple doubles, hits clutch 3's and then curses out Reggie Miller on national TV. What does this guy not do?

Yea he probably has the Iggy role and IIRC, he finished a lot of games at the 2 spot when everyone was healthy. He was more of a game finisher than DDV.

But I think he goes from like 48 mins to 30-36. He is gonna still get major minutes in a normal situation, starting/bench or whatever, there's no doubt he's going to be out there for the most important minutes of the game, because Thibs looks at him as his swiss army knife.

To borrow Aaron Boone’s phrase: these guys are a bunch of savages

Why are we fretting about minutes? The game itself will decide that. Winning cures a lot of ills. People less frustrated when we get the W

We’re a 60 win team next year with OG and full squad. I’m going to tattoo my ass right now, that’s how confident i am in that

Really. Not really (really about 60, not really about the tattoo)

SergioNYK @ 5/9/2024 11:01 AM
Great win! Another one we'll always look back and remember. This run has been so much fun! I'm not sure how this story will end this season with all these bad luck injuries piling up but I love this years team and super proud however this ends.

Fingers crossed for OGA. We need him. We're just a different team with him. 26-5 when both he and Brunson play. And he was so good last night! Took it upon himself to carry the offense in the 2nd quarter. I'm so hoping this is not a weeks long thing like Mitch and more of a day to day cause we need him.

Same with Brunson. Sports so weird! 54 years to the day Willis limped onto the court, Brunson does the same and leads us to a win. He's such a special player! Fingers crossed he woke up this morning and that foot is good enough.

Total team effort though. Hart with another Rodman like game. There is no player in the league with a better motor or is a better rebounder. DVo was great too! Made some big threes and made a nice pass to Precious off an offensive rebound.

I never thought we'd see a bigger crybaby than Nick Nurse but Carlisle is making a run for it. That was clearly not a double dribble on Hartenstein! And that's not the reason they lost! How about his team grabs a rebound and make their FT's?

2-0, got to get one in Indiana and finish this off in Game 5.

If they stay healthy- and or if they can find 2 long athletic role players with their late first rounders. Both of these are big ifs- but I trust that this FO finally has started to get smart and maybe get lucky. No reason we can’t finally get a run a little like what the Heat built when Riley first got there.

What an amazing problem to have. Josh Hart is putting up 18/12/5/1/1 on 43% from 3 in the last 8 playoff games. Now, his per 36 actually takes those numbers down a significant margin since he is playing over 46 mins a game on average. But he is certainly able to fit into the position-less basketball model. The chemistry between him and Brunson is undeniable. There is a world here Hart starts at the 2 and DDV gets free reign to shoot as 6th. Tough decisions.

Brunson / Joku /
DDV / Deuce / Milton
OG / Hart / Burks
Randle / Bogs / Achiuwa
iHart / Robinson / Sims

I mean, without any moves and keeping what we have, we have a pretty solid core there.

That rough patch after the injuries has helped so much. I specifically remember the Lakers game where they did something similar and it worked.

It makes sense to those who had "trade Randle" burned into their synapses and they can't shake loose.

Clean @ 5/9/2024 12:29 PM
Trading Randle was an option when we had a decision to make with which way we are going to go with the franchise. Once we traded the only other shot creators we had besides Jalen for OG that made trading Randle for another person who can't create shots for himself or others not a good idea. We need Randle to create for us with his postups as an alternative to jalen doing everything. We still need a ball handling PG. I love mcBride but his good games are him hitting his 3's and defense. It is why our team sucks once Brunson comes out. We have no one else able to break down the defense. Priority number 1 should be a backup PG. I really wanted Brogdan but I don't think Portland wanted to trade him.

Randle is the better player by far. I was just suggesting that with Brunson becoming so successful dominating the ball, a role player might fit better. Randle/Brunson were definitely making progress learning how to share the ball

Nalod @ 5/9/2024 1:02 PM
Randle has shooters around him now. OG is better fit with him also.
PreBrunson Randle was a different player.
