But aside from the math - the question is would Hartenstein take 16mm in a market where Nic Claxton gets paid 25mm.
Thats a hard sell. I guess the question is who will be the bid.

Second year (or 3rd) opt out (of an 4 year max deal) and Knicks will have his Bird RightS. Knicks and iHart are literally also negotiating the details of his second contract.

This is worse than fighting the borrow checker in Rust. Anyway, with Robinson, you can get an anti-Embid center and one who keeps other centers honest on lobs, but with Hartenstein, you get better ball movement and more durability. Both need some kind of shot beyond 5 feet. Given OG's feared injury-proneness, I would go with Hartenstein just to make sure somebody big is still in the middle if we can only keep one. I'm really confused by this one.

Claxton isn't a $25m player though, Nets needed to keep SOMEONE young and the only way anyone is going to sign there is if they overpay.

I doubt someone actually offers Ihart $25m, but if they do and he wants to leave so be it, Mitch is not chopped liver, he was looking like ALL NBA D last season. we'll be fine with Mitch and resigning Precious.

So this is obviously realistic but would essentially require them to roster 3 second round exception guys, so Jokubaitis, who they pick at 38 and who they pick at 51. Doesn’t seem to make sense since they will be really low on quality proven depth. They will need more.

I'm surprised by this statement. Seems to me they are overflowing with quality depth down to 8 or 9 players. Hart, DDV at 6-7 for starters and you know how many minutes they can give you when needed. Then we'll see about IHart/Mitch but even without them, you have to be okay with McBride, Achiuwa, maybe Sims, and even Burks coming off the bench as needed as your 8-11 guys. And as we all know, Thibs doesn't even really go anywhere near that deep anyway. Is our bench below league average?

The only places I think we could end up thin are PG and C if we lose one of our two guys. but I'm curious as to your thinking on this.

I think Knixkik is referring to meeting the apron requirements, not talent at end of bench.

Are we allowed to sign vet min guys? I get that we don’t want to go over the second apron but we need some quality depth to fill out the roster

Im not really worried about the back of the roster. If IHart returns the bench is Hart, Deuce, bridges or Donte, Robinson and Sims. They will fill out with the likes of J Toppin, Dadier, Rokas, Arcidiacano, 2nd round picks.

If any of those guys need to play we are screwed.

Arch needs to come back. Complete the roster. Not Lowrey and others. They were not in that class that won chips.

Jay Wright? Who knows if he wants to work again but if so let him bone up on his commentary and take Clydes place. Tell funny stories of his NovaKnicks, etc........Good dresser is Jay!!! Not like Clyde though. That "HuggyBear/pimpdaddy" attire don't work for anyone else.

Seriously, Mo cheeks is here,, Johnny Bryant is still win the house, and plenty of minutes for all. Question is not who starts, but who finishes. Josh and DDV bring starter quality.

I think we'll see the reality of Randles defense with this team. He can be platooned out in a close game and OG slides at the 4. My take is Randle is not a bad defender, its that not all players go hard on both ends. Been that way for decades. Star players fuck off on defense to preserve energy. Turn it on when its needed.

Yeah but if anyone needs to be playing rosters 10-15 in the NBA they would be screwed

We could use a backup PF & upgrade over Sims at 3rd C.

OG right now is our backup PF and when he inevitably misses some time we currently don't have "legit" coverage. When Mitch inevitably misses his time we could use an upgrade over Sims there with some long term potential.

Don't know if we can get that out of this draft though. Tyler Smith as a G league development prospect can work though. Ulirich Chomoche is probably who they plan on using the #51 on as a stash.

VDesai @ 6/27/2024 10:34 AM
I think we try to grab Freeman or Bona at 38 today.

Yes and you can also use 10 day contracts

newyorknewyork @ 6/27/2024 11:05 AM
How about moving Mitch to the Thunder for future first. Resign Ihart. Sign Issac W/MLE 2 years $8mill per. Sign Drummond vet min. Sign Biyombo vet min.

IHart/Drummond/Biyombo
Randle/Isaac
Annunoby/Hart/Dadiet
Bridges/Donte
Brunson/Mcbride

jaydh @ 6/27/2024 11:08 AM
Figure out how to re-sign iHart without trading Mitch. Then sign Drummond and Lowry on the vet min; and done.
jaydh @ 6/27/2024 11:13 AM
Would you draft Bronny to see if Lebron comes for vet min or to leverage assets from the lakers?

the more I read the tea leaves by analyzing the available info and the moves NY has made thus far, the more I believe that Aller & Co. have been ceaselessly crunching numbers to determine the precise maximum starting salary they could offer OG, paired with avoiding signing a 2024 first-rounder, that would result in $16.2 million in available cap space under the second apron, allowing them to offer Isaiah Hartenstein a max contract...

I'm drafting him and then stealing assets from the Lakers.

No way Lebron takes vet min. Plus Silver will throw a fit if anyone but the lakers drafts Bronny

I know, but he could win a title with his son.
