Next move is to get that PF/C backup. I view Precious as a someone who can swing betweeen both spots but additional height and length is needed.
I was interested in Cam Payne as an FA before we drafted Kolek. I thought Payne was a perfect 8-12 min per night backup for JB. Thibs probably has no desire to play Kolek in his rookie year, so unless Kolek knocks his socks off Payne may still get those minutes. Question I have is - how do we find 15-20 mpg for Deuce with DiVo as the backup 2?
A little surprised that we made this move before making a move on Achiuwa or any backup center. We still have the MLE and Achiuwa's bird rights, so something could still happen.
Still feels like there's another major move.

Ssshh you. He’s ours now.
He is giving me Sam Cassell vibes

Yes but could definitely be more than that.
This guy has been a legit PG (mostly as a back-up) and has considerable playoff experience.
He is aggressive, gets downhill, has a floater/runner game and certainly hit some big 3’s against us vs Philly.
Think he put up 29? Vs Clips in playoffs a few years back with PHX and you just never know when I good player comes to a great team situation he could show up more than most of us expect.
He is a solid back-up, great insurance and being a lefty is another guy with Brunson that can teach Kolek some things. I find this a very comforting pick-up at vet min $3.1M price and 1 year deal.
Got the right Cam this time.

Cam really showed up vs Knicks in the playoffs. Has some dawg in him and shot some daggers. Felt like he couldn't miss. But there's a real log Jam now at guard. Something gotta give, even if I'd rather not lose either Deuce or DDV. Is Deuce going to be OK being a third stringer?
Is there a center equivalent to Cam sitting out there off-radar for us?
Just an observation...
We've actually had 6 players from the 1st rnd of the 2015 draft at one point or another.
KP
Hezonja
Mudiay
Payne
Grant
Portis

I mean we were down to 6 players the last game of the playoffs. Feels like they aren’t going to let that happen again. Can we please sign just one more F/C though.
Anyone we sign is going to have to take those minutes from Deuce who is a hard worker and ain’t going down without a fight.

If Payne plays respectable D, as well as does a good job getting his teammates good looks, Im guessing that Cam has a good shot of getting Deuce moved by the first trade deadline, if he isnt gone sooner.
We needed Deuce's scoring with all the players out. We need more of a playmaker at PG in the second unit, when we're at or close to full strength this upcoming season
Bondy said today what others been saying: "Deuce an off guard in a PG body". Cam Is a PG.
Nalod wrote:Bondy said today what others been saying: "Deuce an off guard in a PG body". Cam Is a PG.
Cam isn't even a true / traditional PG in the sense that he is mostly looking to get off his 3 or get to his floater first before initiating for others BUT it only takes about 5 minutes to see he is light years ahead of Deuce in terms of being comfortable with the ball off the bounce,
Deuce like you stated above is primarily a catch and shoot undersized 2 that is working hard to pick up some PG characteristics where Cam comes in and is a legit back-up PG who has had a # of big playoff games and who I believe has +40 playoff games under his belt (may be wrong on last comment).
I feel much better about roster with Cam signed --- I expect a center move (maybe a big time move) sometime this summer....just no idea when this summer.
Payne ugly shot looks like a 12 year old hoisting from long range.
But he is an NBA veteran who has earned his way to make it and stick in the best league in the world.
He is our dude now.
Im not sure what is in store for Deuce but he really did rise last year, earned that contract and played up to it and a bit beyond. I agree, he still might gain those PG skills. At 23 im not typecasting him just yet.

I just took a look at the top 10 picks...Only Towns & KP emerged as exceptional players.
I was a fan of Portis...I wish we had taken him instead of Grant, who a lot of folks liked.

Portis is a pro, good guy to have on the team. KP is extremely talented, just has a broken *****.

It was a really bad draft. Jahlil Okafor oh my God what a bust
not sure where I read it, but it states Kolek is ahead of Payne and Duece isn't out of the rotation? I think it was Begley, but not sure where that puts payne then? Hard to believe as well that Thibs goes to a ten man rotation. Guess those aren't terrible problems, lets see where this backup center evolves too.

SL just ended. Training camp is months away. Thibs gonna rock the downtime for the rest of the day because he just signed the new contract, 4am tomorrow morning starts the PG film work.
Don't be late.
Guys Cam Payne's playing time is a champagne problem
