Charles Barkley: “When they came to meet with me, they were like, ‘We want to keep doing the show.’ I was like, ‘What do you mean? We don’t even have basketball!’ It really threw me for a loop. The only good thing about it was that I got to keep a lot of people their jobs, but I made it very clear: I’m not going to keep working forever. I’m going to do at least one more year so everybody can keep their jobs for another year. First of all, I have zero idea what we’re going to do. Let me get that out of the way. You have basketball next year at least. Yeah, so we were already going to do next year no matter what, but they said they want to keep doing the show a year after that. I said, ‘Guys, I can’t just keep working to be working.'” – via YouTube

O’Neal is releasing a new line of oversized gummy candies called Shaq-a-licious XL Gummies in partnership with the Hershey Company. The Shaq-a-licious XL gummies are going to be released in two varieties. The first is the original flavor that will be molded after O’Neal’s face, and the second is a sour edition shaped like many of O’Neal’s great nicknames, including Diesel, the Big Cactus and the Big Shamrock. “I’m just a big kid at heart. I love making people smile and having fun–that’s why I created Shaq-A-Licious XL Gummies. So go ahead, bite my head off. Life’s too short not to have fun,” O’Neal said of the candy line. – via Lakers Nation
I've seen these at Walmart for about two months or so. They look disgusting.
From his manufacturing studio in South Los Angeles, Ciambrone, also known as the Shoe Surgeon, reconstructed a pair of Nike LeBron 20 sneakers using white crocodile leather and gleaming gold flourishes. Across the translucent blue outsoles, Ciambrone scrawled 38,388 — the number of points James scored to break Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s long-held record — and added other career milestones in shimmery lettering on the sides. Crocodile-patterned gold foil was sewn over Nike’s iconic swoosh, the tail floating off each shoe like a tiny wing. Named “The Moment” and valued at more than $100,000, the bespoke sneakers were gifted to James the night he made history. – via Los Angeles Times
But the mutually beneficial bond he forged over the years with Nike — which paid Ciambrone to handcraft sneakers for several sponsored athletes and hired him to teach a customization workship in 2017 — has soured. In July, the sportswear giant sued Ciambrone and his L.A. company, Surgeon Worldwide, accusing him of counterfeiting, mass customization and trademark infringement. In a statement to The Times, Nike said it “valued our relationship with the Shoe Surgeon” and did not have “any issues” with Ciambrone’s one-off designs using Nike sneakers as a canvas. But it accused the cobbler of taking things too far by scaling up his operations in ways that, according to the lawsuit, “are illegal, deceive consumers and create confusion in the marketplace.” Nike said it tried to work things out for two years with Ciambrone before filing suit to protect the integrity of its brand; it is seeking $60 million. – via Los Angeles Times
“Blindsided,” Ciambrone, 38, said over lunch a few weeks after Nike filed the lawsuit. He said he wants to find an “amicable” resolution and hopes they can collaborate again. “I don’t want to fire back shots,” he said. “I don’t want to go to war.” – via Los Angeles Times

Kid is still just 21 but perhaps the expectations just got too much and when you can't live a life in peace you have to rebalance things. Hope he is ok, and hope he can make a come back at some point. but until we know why its all just speculation.
Miles “Deuce” McBride, the New York Knicks’ rising star, is flexing both on and off the court — locking down a swanky unit at West Chelsea’s One High Line for $15,500 per month, The Post has learned. His new digs, spanning 1,600 square feet, come fully furnished with high-end pieces that scream luxury. The unit, located in a sleek Bjarke Ingels-designed development, boasts sweeping city views, thanks to its prime perch overlooking the High Line. – via New York Post

JJ Redick on getting Lakers' job: 'I know I deserve this opportunity as well'
JJ Redick on the challenge of the Lakers job and skipping the coaching line: “In regards to skipping the line… I think there’s a little bit of a misconception around the idea of someone deserving something or someone not deserving something. Ultimately, it is an organization’s charge to find a coach that’s the right fit for that team and organization with whatever skill sets they may have. There hasn’t been a moment that I haven’t felt an extreme level of gratitude, and yes, I feel lucky. I feel lucky I got this opportunity, but I know I deserve this opportunity as well. It’s not because I spent seven years as an assistant coach—it’s because I’ve worked my ass off on this craft of basketball for the last 32 years.”
Rookie wrote:That's crazy dude. That little prick 100% didn't deserve that job. He has spent exactly zero minutes on an NBA bench or as an assistant. A better response to the question of wether or not Reddick desrves the job would have been for JJ to answer "that remains to be seen".
Larry Bird took the Pacers to the Finals with no coaching experience. But the flip side to that coin is Derek "booty call' Fisher.

And the opposite is also true, Fizdale was brought up in the Riley/Spo school of coaching and fell flat. 8 years as an assistant or something from 2 of the best and that did not help him.

Good point. Although Fizdale had coached a 50 win playoff team in Memphis. In NY he showed that he was mostly about being a celebrity coach.
JVG pointed out at the time that Fizdale should have spent more time working on being the best coach he could be, instead of chasing the cameras.
In Miami he was mostly about kissing up to the "big three", not learning from a future HOF coach in Spoelstra. His time as head coach in NY showed that he was more about style than substance.
JJ Reddick was a fine NBA player and demonstrated intellect to communicate. He feels confident and wants to demonstrate that to his team and fanbase.
As for fizdale, He was uneven. Had a good run in Memphis then lacked the abilty to connect. Was made the scapegoat there as well.
IN NY? It was a shit show for sure. He was in over his head.

50 games over 2 years. He coached a 43 win team in his first year and ran into Spurs and lost in first round. And then won 7 more in 19 games the next season before getting canned.

There was a lot of friction between Fizdale and Marc Gasol that season.
