Knicks · “Knicks have done ‘background work’ on possible trade for Blazers star center” (page 1)

Doesn’t sound like anything is imminent, but what do you think about a possible trade?

SNY’s Ian Begley highlighted Portland Trail Blazers center Deandre Ayton as a potential option for the Knicks by trade.

“I’d add Ayton to the list because the Knicks have had interest in him – and have done background work on him – in the past,” Begley said. “Ayton averaged 22.7 points and 12.5 rebounds (3.6 offensive) in 18 games played after the All-Star break last season. He shot 58 percent from the field during that stretch and has playoff/NBA Finals experience.”

That means that a trade for Ayton could come at the cost of Julius Randle, who could be an unrestricted free agent as soon as next summer if he and the Knicks can’t work out an extension before then. Randle became eligible for a four-year, $181.5 million extension back in early August.

Nevertheless, Ayton could solve a lot of problems for the Knicks on the court. His youth (26 years old) fits their timeline well, and his inside scoring ability along with his rebounding skills would be largely beneficial for a Knicks team that will be missing an interior force to start the season.

We love Randle and even more so with videos of him with is kids, working out, and doing his charity thing.
Ayton is a bit of a malcontent who has not lived up to his top pick status.
I dont't see a clear need for Randle for Portland unless they view him as the top dog in a rebuild and move some pieces around.
That, or a third team.
I don't want Randle traded, but lets be real, knicks might not want, or can't pay him and if we can accommodate him to a city of his choice that will, well then thats better than losing him for nothing which could happen.

If Leon and Thibs want Ayton, then I want Ayton. Steve Mills left the building, Phil went home to nap, Grunwald texts to Isiah stopped, and Donnie is Retired at 83 years old. Goodness gracious Isiah whispering sweet nothings in PHX ear! Leon and Thibs got us here and its an interesting well liked group we got. Randle included!!

Im not going to say what Ayton can or cannot be. If our braintrust think its a good, then yeah, go for it. We win a chip with him we'll love him!

Article says nothing imminent. They gotta write something!

They need to do their homework. I personally don’t even think that is remotely even close to the type of value I’d want back for Randle. I know he’s no longer the soup du jour but he’s a proven #1 scoring option and Ayton will never even sniff at that imho

Knicks did their homework. Nothing doing. Ayton need not be a no 1. scoring threat for us to win a chip.
Might even say the same for Randle.

Again, they need to do their homework

Chips? What? Where’s the gaucamole?

Randle wants what now? Queso fundido?

Nalod, how about you, another margarita?

The Mark Bryant hiring gave this signal earlier in the offseason. That math requires Randle + Achiuwa. He's seen virtually no progress in 6 years in the league. Came in as a functional center from the start and pretty much stayed the same, statistically. I have no dislike for him, but its hard to see upside that validates his salary. Would satisfy positional need. DOn;t really see this happening though. I don't see enough desire from either team to have this make sense.

Randle would be deeply offended at the misuse of his likeness...deeply.

Glad season is starting soon.

Especially when articles where “Knicks have done background work in the past” (when? Last week? Two years ago?) translate to Knicks could trade Randle for Ayton. Smh

Knick’s only option, smartest option, is to roll with what they have and make decisions at the break.
Randle is not being traded for a role C piece. This ain’t the 80s Center driven NBA.
Blazers want young assets.
If am looking for Precious and Sims to step up and Mitch to be as good as new so that the need to do something stupid at the C is eliminated.
Most should remember that the NY media also panicked about the C position last years season.
When they claimed IHart and Mitch were not enough.

Agree.
Writers should be ashamed of themselves. How many variations of "Trade Randle!" Can they churn out? It's just embarrassing at this point.
