That being said, I think Shamet can give us about 85% of what Grimes could give and at a vet minimum price, so we probably made the right call.
Hard disagree on that one. Maybe those were the prices in the last CBA, but I think he's lucky if get $15M. The fact that there are no teams with cap space showing interest kills his value. The 76ers can just wait and if anoyher team throws Grimes a bone, the 76ers can still match.
I think he played like a $17-$20 mil player but you are right. This a bad market for him because no teams have that kind of cap space. He will probably stick with Philly on a contract below $16 mil

As well, Grimes a RFA, so Philly can just match.
Lot of these restricted free agents haven’t got any offers because there no market and there very delusional . They are delusional because there not worth the money look at guy like Josh giddey wants 150 million dollars he worth between 80 million dollars at most. Cam Thomas wants ridiculous amount money that doesn’t make sense when he is on tanking team. Those teams that are lottery bound teams don’t want to pay luxury tax for no good reason. Grimes has been on 4 teams in last 2 season and three of those teams knicks, pistons, and mavs thought he was delusional for asking for a lot money he is not worth. I rather if I am the sixers let grimes sign that qualifying offer because they have a better shooting guard in vj edegcome they just drafted. Plus where minutes going to come for grimes they already maxey, mcain, edgcome, and obure.

Im curious as to who is driving these salary demands. Grimes or his agent? Guessing its Grimes from the decisions he's made over the span of his career.
Really didnt look comfortable taking it to the rim until near the end of last season. The question is will Grimes still be comfortable when defenses dont have one eye out the door? Or arent resting their starters before a playoff run?

His qualifying offer is 8.7mm. Yes, Philly I guess Philly told him to set the market.

Which is what he’s worth. Grimes is a very solid two-way player but nothing special.

I loved QG but signing him at 20 million sounds like signing THJ to a contract. Yes, he can play, but I don't think he bring enough to the table to warrant tying up that much cap space on him. I miss RJ and IQ too but I prefer them not tying up cap space tbh

I think one has to look at Philly's back court, McCain upside when healed, and their picks to ascertain if its worth signing him. If they bring him back on the Qualified offer, how long do they have an window to extend him?
Playing on a team tanking with a decimated roster his numbers might be a bit inflated. Perhaps he need to prove himself a bit more?
As for RJ and IQ? Both really good rooks for us and nice homegrown talent but I like the OG move and subsequent trades to get Mikal and KAT. Part of the premium paid for Mikal was he came with two years left at like 23mm so it allowed us a window there. Can't say until we get down the road and see what happened but year one got us to ECF's and the two picks were in a week draft and perhaps nothing to write home about. That will take a few years to work itself thru.
Grimes? At his best would have been great next to Jalen. The timeline was not meant to be. Maybe FO is a bit sore at Thibs for messing this kids head up a bit?
