First off consider DDV is not a free agent for another 3 full seasons.
Look at his earnings history:
https://www.spotrac.com/nba/player/earni...He more than doubled his earnings and got 4 years solid. That brings peace of mind and financial security.
Now look at reality which was his stats:
https://www.basketball-reference.com/pla...Before last year when he played 81 games, the year before with GSW he played 72 and earned about 4.5mil which was the most they could pay him. He took a two year with an opt out after one. We more than doubled his pay and gave 4 years!!! Prior to GSW he had injury issues playing just 27 games, then another 66 game season. To be fair he did have a 66 game seaosn but that was the bubble season which was cut short. His second year Then he got traded to SAC.
His season in GSW gave him a taste of a well run franchise and playing with 3 HOF and no doubt got his shot fixed.
Im not saying by any stretch we trade him at peak because I think he has figured a lot of things out and he is going to a really good team. So he should be successful.
No doubt after two years at this level he'd be paid more but the league was likely not sold he'd be durable long term given his history and inconsistent shooting.
In his second year he started and played just 3 games in Mil run to its chip. Looks like he got hurt in the 3rd game of the opening round and was done for the rest of the season.
Looking at game logs that year he was erratic and its why at some point he was traded the next year and Milwaukee was in win now mode to keep Giannis happy. Players are not plug and play like video games and his time in Sac was not great given the personel they had then.
The DDV we had last year started to form in GSW. Lets not forget off the bench he did not start the season well but in time Grimes faltered and he won the spot.
Like most I hate that he was traded and loved that swagger!
He had his best season with us. But to insinuate he was all that prior is not at all what his career has been. That we did him a favor? I don't agree. I don't think we hurt him at all though as he is in a situation to start I believe and that team should contend well. With three years to his next payday that is too far off to ponder. Odds are he is traded if he continues to succeed has he has.
Seeing Dante in the Timberwolves uniform is sad

I actually blame Mitchell Robinson. If he could for once stay healthy for 60 games, iHart doesn’t get extended minutes and there’s no huge OKC contract offer.
I’ve never seen Knicks fans so in love with a second round exit roster

Look in the mirror...........You fail to remember all your quotes about the 54 win 2013 woodson team?
I can’t wait to get over losing DVD and Randle, oh wait, I already did
Upon further review. Donte said "Can't finish at the rim right, Thibs" not "Thanks for the trade, Thibs"
Donte would have made an awesome super-sub. Feasting on 2nd units. I believe we are a super-sub away, sixth man of the year material, from getting to the Finals. Right now I'm guessing we're good enough to get to the ECF.

McBride is no slouch but having such a formidable starting 5, i think we'll always have a starter in the second unit (jalen, Mikal or Kat).

Who do the Celtics have in that role?

Boston has 2 superstars, and they can bring KP off the bench, with his ability to stretch the defense. KAT isnt a top 20 player. OG has availability problems.
We need a first rate scorer off the bench to counter that. Deuce is good, but he will have to be very good to fill that role.

Boston has never once brought KP off the bench. KP has the same availability problems (worse) than OG. So not much substance to that argument. Please explain to me how Jalen Brown is so much better than KAT. Celtics finally win their title cruising past wounded opponents. You would treat Jalen Brown like he's clearly in some tier higher than KAT. What's that based off of?

Knicks overall have enough scoring. Further - for me this is not about the regular season - its about the playoffs. Rotation will be shortened and game will become more plodding/half court in the playoffs with less of a focus on bench scoring. What it will likely come down to for the Knicks to move forward to ECL/Finals is going to come down to how strong their defense is. For that reason - if I'm Leon - I'm not moving Mitch for a back-up for the sheer fact that Mitch will be extremely useful for situational defense and paint protection during a playoff run.

Why stop at one super sub? Its easy to say "we need a......."
We have in-depth convo's here mostly takes into consideration of details. What can be or what can't?
We have two all NBA Allstars in Towns and Brunson and Two high end role players. Same as Boston.
OG and Mikal vs. White and Holiday.
Towns and Brunson vs. Tatum and Brown.
To me, Brown is not a tier one star. Tatum is but was not win the MVP running last year given sacrifices had to be made. He also went on a bad slump for a while. He is young still and a hell of a player.
Add KP and they have an edge. Add Mitch and they have no defensive dude like that.
Bench?
At this juncture a game has yet to be played with our two new players.
Add a super sub and a back up PF and we might not lose a game all year!!!
The Key: If Towns fulfills his potential he was a steal for us. If Knicks win a chip with him rostered, it was a steal.
Not to say Minny does not gain benefit.

NBA Finals, KP came off the bench.
Jalen Brown was Finals MVP, there's one reason.
The FO has been trying to trade Mitch for 18 months if the reports are true. Getting a high level shot creator in return, to come off the bench could make a big difference. Someone capable of averaging double digits. Getting buckets with the shot clock running out.

Boston played 19 playoffs games. KP played in Seven. "he came off the bench in the finals......" Bit misleading unless context is given. He played 13 min in game 4 vs. Miami then sat the next 10 games due to injury. He played 20 min game 1 vs dal, 23 game two. Missed two games, then played 16 min in the 5th and final game. Took 4 shots, made two. Whole Playoffs series he took 29 3pt attempts. Made 10. His stats over all way down. He was hurt. Kudos he played at all thru the pain.
Lets not pretend he was some "Super sub". He had a very good regular season starting all 57 games he played in and avg. 20ppg with about avg stats across the board.
"they can bring KP off the bench". they can, but they did. He started 7 of the 4 playoff games he participated in.
Brown was MVP because they won. He was a bit statistically better than Tatum. Both were excellent.

We have that. McBride averaged double digits in the playoffs and had huge 4th qtr shots.
Anything else?
Jalen Brown won finals MVP. Someone had too. Tatum shot for shit in what was basically a sweep.
Also based on the Gustav scale KAT is better than Jalen Brown has he's got more all star selection AND more all NBA selections 4vs3 and 2vs1.
So it appears Knicks also have 2 superstars and double figures bench scorer. How else can we help today sir?
I don’t understand this conversation at all.
